While listening to this, I can imagine Prince and Josh (and all the other pschophants) in the studio blasting this dribble...bopping their heads and Prince thinking DAMN IS THIS WHAT THEY CALL "FRESH" AND "DOPE"??? I THINK THIS WHAT THE KIDS LIKE TODAY. JOSH IS BOPPING HIS HEAD DEEPLY. DO I FINALLY HAVE A HIT HERE?

First thing first if you can find high quaity versions of this album get them it sounds so much better and the lack of gaps makes the songs flow better. Everything can't be deep and trailblazing like the Rainbow Children and 1999. It sounds like this 57 year old man wanted to make a album of fun, fresh music and he nailed it. People talk about how that are embarrassed to share Prince music with their friends because it sounds dated, then the brother drops a fresh album for your friends to hear and then you complain to sounds like everything on the radio. What the F? We aren't the only people in the world who listens to P music. So much talk about young people not caring about Prince and then he drops an albm for them. We do not own Prince he is a human with his own will and agenda. You don't have to like the album that's fine but don't complain that he is trying something different. He has always tried new things. Let's not forget the reason we have the song Purple Rain in the first place. Remember he was trying to write a rock ballad just like_________.

Million $ Show – agreed this could easily be a Beyonce song, the bass is still classic Prince though it's a great opening song lots of energy 6/10. Definitely uber catchy.

Shut This Down – has a Childish Gabino feel to it. I'm no fan of his but I get that vibe from it. I love this song. I will play it a lot at gatherings super energetic. 7/10

Ain't About to Stop – really love everything about this song. I can hear Rita's voice just fine I don't know what everyone is talking about. The auto-tuned “Ain't About to Stop” is sure to help get some air play for this song. This should've been the single for this album. I am 36 and am an old school Prince lover but this song shows how creative this guy is. I love IDM and I think he nails it perfectly in this song, the bass solo!!! That fucking bass solo!!! Come on guys that bass part reminds me of the extended La, La, La, He, He bass solo. This is a perfect mix of Prince's sound and what is currently popular. 8/10

Like A Mack – this keeps the new sound P has discovered on this album going. It reminds me of a more electronic Gold Standard from AOA. I was not a fan of that song. I generally don't like those funk songs he does to show how funky he is a la the Black Album. The raps are okay in this song. I wish P would do more raps like this. He isn't trying to be something he is not and he isn't singing about how rich he is a la Mr. Goodnight. I really dig this song too, this is a club bangger. 7/10

This Could B Us – we all talk about how few people bought AOA so Prince remixes what is probably the best song on that album so that more people can hear it and puts in on his “modern” album what's wrong with that? The guitar solo is pretty great. I like what Josh did to this song. 7/10

Fallinlove2nite – this sounds like a modern jazz song to me. It is my least favorite song on this album. It at least fits the vibe of the album. 5/10

X's Face – love, love, love the hard sound to this song. All the electronic tricks Josh uses works here. 7/10

Hardrocklover – this is the only song on the album that sounds like P is trying to make a song work which is strange since he's made a million songs like this. I'm still not feeling this song. 5/10

Mr. Nelson – I don't consider this a song, it's a segue. Not bad, I do like where it is on the abum. 5/10

1,000 Xs & Os – the first ballad on the album. P can't have an album without one. At least he's singing about sex again. This song is nothing special it lacks the electronic punch the rest of the album has. 6/10

June (soon to be known as the Pasta Song) – love the stream of consious lyrics. This is one of his dream-like songs. I love the restraint Josh exercised in this song only using sounds to underscore Prince's vocals. More of these songs please! 8/10

Overall this is a 7. Much better after hearing it in high quality.

I think josh is a decent producer - for someone else. Or for someone who understands this music.
Prince has made the mistake of thinking he needs hip production when in reality good songwriting and lyrics is the problem. A guy who can make crap sound clean and well recorded is not the issue.
Actualy this would be decent if the vocals were rmoved. I'd roll it in the background.

What some people need to think about is that Prince used to sound "too modern" back in 1984 to most middle-aged+ people.

He's always used the most modern sounds available to him!

i didn't pay for this album. i didn't stream it. i didn't join a club to get it...i really have no right to complain.

that said, i find this album about as interesting as i might a prince 'nu-country' album. i can only listen to varying tempos of uhn ch uhn ch uhn ch uhn ch uhn ch so many times before i completely lose interest (about twice, in this case).

seems a pretty lazy effort to me.

i'm watching the syracuse concert from 1985. the mans legacy is safe. and will be safe forevermore.

he could poop on the stage for the next 30 years and his legacy will stand.

please get off princes back, enjoy this current piece of perfectly disposable pop, and realize what we ask of him has already been satisfied.

let the man live and enjoy his later years --- i love being a fan, and i love him. no one is superhuman forever.

be a fan. step back and enjoy, there's something for everyone smile

For all you youngsters out there, do you still say "Mack"? I remember that song "Return of the Mack" in the early 90's, great tune, but isn't the saying "Mack" dated now? Am I missing something?

There is a lyric on the album that makes no sense logically. "Sometimes I think I was born too late. Should have been born on the Woodstock stage." Prince was born in 1958. Woodstock was in 1969. If Prince wanted to be born on the Woodstock stage he was born too EARLY.

Yeah, I agree. It worked for the concerts but not for an album

Partyman (The purple party mix. 1989) did it far better on the intro too. I bet Josh never heard that one though.

That's what I thought of right away was Partyman remix, but this was for his new "expeirmental" album! Sampling his past hits? He can't think of a cool NEW intro for his new album?

Some sick part of me is starting to like this record. And I'm feeling dirty because of it.

Prince has some serious balls to put himself out there for the kids like this. It's like a 60 year old deciding to try BASE jumping. Serious potential for embarrassment, injury (ego), or even death (career).

That is a good line!

It might be a good line but it's naively incorrect.

It's not only haters that ever complain. In fact, with Prince fans, it's often the most obsessive fans that are complaining. Sometimes the obsessiveness and expectations of the biggest fans creates the loudest collective grumble because they're the only ones that care enough to voice their disappointment. Just sayin'... wink

Your first statement is exactly how I feel lol. In my head I know this album is bad, but when I'm actually listening I kind of like it in some weird way. IDK how I feel about this, maybe I have horrible taste in music after all neutral

What I find most egregious about this record though is how Prince has invited to Paisley Park in recent times both fka twigs and Kendrick Lamar, two of the most progressive and interesting musicians who can still be said to be working within the contemporary mainstream musical landscape. But by contrast, Prince's new "experimental" album is comprised almost solely of lame mid-2000s dance production. It's hard to understand the disconnect there.
