antonb said: Totally agree. Unfortunately the org is full of trolls now and a lot of people that love to hear themselves talk and have no clue how irritating they are being with their constant troll comments and not bringing anything of substance to the actual conversation. . What this site needs is a IGNORE button like on FB so you can never see posts again from these trolls! [Edited 9/9/15 6:27am]

The biggest problem on the org isnt the extreme opinions. From gushing sycophants to vitriolic haters and everything inbetween, all bases are covered on the org. What gets my goat up is the people who fucking complain about other peoples opinions and how they express them. These are the people that should be ignored, not the contrasting opinions which you label as trolls. Because these complainers are the people that form little gangs and start slapping each other on the back for complaining so well. "Well said, Im with you buddy!". Before you know it, they are hunting in packs and trying to get the whole fucking org sensored so that it only expresses THEIR views. Some of them even follow orgers around just so they can chime into a conversation with a complaint about their opinion every chance they get.

I am happy with KCool dribbling and wetting his pants over how incredible the latest masterpeice is over and over again. I am also happy with KS foaming at the mouth and telling me how steamy he thinks the pile of shit is over and over again. Its all good. Its all fair opinion. But the fuckers that complain endlessly about other orgers expressing their opinion grates me up the wrong way. They are the real trolls on this site and they add FUCK ALL substance to any conversation except their own dick sucking ones.

Rant over. Ignore-complainers-button now pressed.

The most annoying thing on the org are the complainers who complain about other complainers.

I don't think there is another artist in the world who releases material that fans regularly dismiss and yet still come back for more. What is this, Stockholme Syndrome writ large ? Other artists who enjoyed a similar golden period where critics and fans alike were overjoyed by every release, saw their audiences tail off and their popularity wane, but Prince fans seem to be another breed entirely.

In my case I think it was the initial shock back in school when someone lent me a cassette of 1999 and Purple Rain. Before that I'd never heard of Prince. What was surprising is that the music continued to excite me, ATWIAD, Parade, Sign and lovesexy, combined with scorching live shows... there simply wasn't anyone else who could do that.

Then something changed. I think that something was me. Prince could easily have kicked out a continuation of everything that had gone before, but he didn't. He made his music, and I was invited to enjoy it too, if I wanted to.

I have hoped for that "return to form" album over the years. But that's MY PROBLEM. I am trying to recapture a mood, a feeling, an experience that takes me back to that original emotional response.

I haven't enjoyed much of Prince's output for a long, long time. There are some songs that I have enjoyed, but on the whole I have found the music to be a let down.

Which is why I am amazed at the reaction to this album. It isn't to my taste, but it has an energy and a freshness I haven't heard on a Prince album for a long, long time. One interesting aside, which may work for any undecided listeners, is to imagine if the tracks on this album came on the radio by a guy you'd never heard of.

Imagine how the industry would flip if some unknown came out with the ex's face. Sometimes I think it must be Hell to be Prince and to constantly have everything you release scrutinised and matched against a nostalgia coated memory. Imagining these songs on what are considered Prince classic albums, and suddenly they sound like classics. Hardrocklover on SOTT ? Aint about to stop ?

Maybe it only works for me, but approaching these songs without the weight of expectation (and I mean the expectation that they will be poor) and just listening to them as songs, makes all the difference.

The first Prince album in a LONG time I would not be ashamed to have on in the car with passengers.

Well Said ! I agree

I always think "I wonder what album would that song fit into"

There are some bonkers tracks on his best album Sign O The Times, lets face it The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker if released today on HItNRun would be slated and so would a few others !!

I agree with your X's Face comment too, that would be a groundbreaking hit for a new artist, promoted by a recording company willing to invest in them and it would end up getting radio airplay and go top 10.

. . . . but hey ho, its Prince.

Everyone has right to have an opinion. And it's a matter of taste.

.

I'm really happy for those who likes this album and for those who thinks P made the right step in his musical journey.

.

To me it is simply the worst collection of songs he ever released.

.

And no, I'm not criticizing only to criticize or having some strange syndrome crisis.

I simply judge from what I'm hearing, in according to my personal taste and musical knowledge.

I wish prince would have had a couple of kids and led a more "normal" life, maybe his new music would have been more relatable to most of the fans that grew up listening to his music

I really want to go up in the club and Shut This Down but I have kids to feed and homework to look over...

The last 2 track and "Hardrocklover" are decent at best.

The rest are uneven and sometimes really bad efforts, making appreciate the fact that all the sequence last for only 38 minutes.

.

But the real problem is that it sounds all but a Prince album.

To this extent it is really experimental, ironically.

A Prince album that sounds not a Prince album.

Not my cup of tea.

It's not even experimental... It's PRINCE simply trying to fit in with the new generation with a failed attempt of mishmash EDM/DUBSTEP sounds... Dubstep is not his thing and never will be, he tried that with RAP remember...

HitnRun overall is a miss for me, I prefer AOA better.

I do like Hardrocklover and 1000 X's & 0's very much. I think minus all that other noise on the album, it would've been a strong album had he replaced those other songs with songs like Stare, Revelation, etc... But obviously his concept was to go the electronic dubstep route.

This is not a PRINCE album. Simple.

I saw a review (http://www.nydailynews.co...-1.2350998) that talks about the album being retro and dated. I thought this was supposed to be Prince doing "new" sound? Are thes guys mistaken, or does it really sound like outdated EDM trends?

Note: I haven't listened as I didn't sign up for Tidal, and don't really listen to EDM, so I don't know good EDM and lame EDM.

Best line that does a great job at summing up this album: "Musically, for the most part, HITNRUN Phase One sounds like something an aspiring DJ working ‘til three in the morning in his parents’ basement on Garageband might come up with"

But after hearing the new album, HITNRUN Phase One, it’s doubtful many fans will care one way or another about a physical release. Prince has slammed the brakes on his hot streak(?) with this one. In fact, one could make a strong argument that HITNRUN Phase One is the single worst major studio album of Prince’s legendary career.

If Prince had released this ten years ago it would've been a departure into EDM with experimental production. I guess ten years ago counts as retro now? New and experimental for Prince, I suppose.

HITNRUN IS LIKE ME TRYING ON HOT PANTS. THEY'RE ILL FITTING, THEY LOOK STUPID, BUT IT WAS SOMETHING FUN TO DO, WE ALL HAD A GOOD LAUGH, AND I CAN TAKE THEM OFF AND DRESS APPROPRIATELY AT ANY TIME.

HITNRUN IS PRINCE'S HOT PANTS (although they would probably look fantastic on him)

Wow. That is a scalding review, and unfortunately mostly "accurate".

I like the fact that Prince has been brave enough to flop here. This is him, imo, searching for what works. Not sitting still in the same old same old. This is exactly what I expect from Prince. What I hate is when he tries to sound eighty-ish again and again.

Mostly, though, his lyrics are drowning in a big sea of nothingness. Has this man lost all passion?

We are all so full of doody here
