This album got Prince trying too hard to be cool written all over it. Joshua comes accross pretty cool on this album with the beats but Prince on top of them just dosen't work. He's too damn old for this type of music. "straight purple mac baby". How can anyone listen to lines like this and not cringe

That's a good cross section of people and views. It's been declared a dud outside the fanbase.
Oh well. Josh will be fired and maybe Blackwell can pick up the sticks again. Hallelujah! [Edited 9/7/15 19:43pm]

Please stop it! Either U like it or U don't. If it was that bad U wouldn't be here CONSTANTLY talking about it. U also have a VERY dirty raunchy mouth..

[I TOOK OUT MY COMMENT]
I don't like it. That much is clear. I'm here talking about how SHITTY it is because Prince is my favorite artist and I want him to make actual ART again. [Edited 9/8/15 0:26am] "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Exactly. It's just sad and embarrassing how he acts and releases this poor shit music. I thought AOA was the absolute lowpoint in his career, but HITNRUN is ten times shittier. Unbelievable.

If only the younger gen understood the historical significance & musical genius of the opening 13 seconds of this album. "The password is what."

As far as Josh's hand in this, it really makes me wonder if he's listened to any classic Prince. A producer should understand the artist he's working with & it doesn't really sound like he was doing anything that compliments, enhances or represents Prince.
Prince's voice is out of place most of the time.
Josh isn't responsible for the shit lyrics, but he could have at least listened to some classic Prince prior to this. (Snippets from 3 obvious songs at the beginning don't count.)

That was the highlight for me. I thought I'd been had by the torrents and somebody had uploaded 'For You' instead.
Yes.. I'm a bad fan. But this was a really, really crap album. Fair trade. And no, I've not kept it.

Every new album is an opportunity. And with every new album he proves he cannot deliver a solid, consistent disc like he did in the 80's. It's not that we're stuck in the 80's and he's creating all this diverse, brilliant work with new sounds. No. The music simply isn't very good. And hasn't been consistently good for a very long time. He's pretty much out of gas. He's pretty much done--except for the odd track here and there. But he can't piece together a great album anymore.

The comments ring far truer than the ridiculous review. Most reiterated the view that music reviewers pander to legends with cornball soft ball reviews.

That's just your way of cynically dismissing any comment from outside this micro-"community" that isn't to your liking. I don't expect critics to like it much but if a few do, who's to say they were bribed to do it?
Juvenile herd stuff.

The album has some nice grooves, but you can't understand hardly anything he is singing (?) about. la, la, la, blah, blah, blah I went to see him at First Avenue last night and they are a funky band and he wasn't mumbling as bad live. I don't get all the praise for him.

that's a personal attack on them and uncalled for.. very immature... act your age, not your shoe-size. yeah, you don't agree with them and they made it clear on their opinion about you. Doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it ”The people that will end up defining ‘Hate Speech Laws’ are the very people you don’t want to define the Hate Speech Laws” — Jordan B Peterson

Ugh....Can we give the self-congratulations a break. How many more times can he sample himself? That introduction is embarssing which is a shame cause I kinda like Million $ Show. (Janelle Monae much?)
The official spin on this album is histerical. Perhaps if it came out 15 years ago (around the time of Maddona's Ray of Light), perhaps you can try to call it "experimental" but this is just warmed over 2015 mainstream R&B (perhaps 2010).
Even 15 years ago this wouldnt really raise musical eyebrows. e.g. 1000 Xs and O sounds like a contemporanous "remix" of the original (which for the record was a fantastic song). Not exacly burning up the lab if your songs sound like cir. 1994.
Shut This Down is the same sort of "we come to town" track he's done a milllion times since My Name is Prince.
FALLINLOVE2NITE was terrible on the New Girl and still terrible here.
So peeps still say "Mack"? LOL Mark Morrison's track was my jam BACK IN 1996. Oh Look a Nikki Minaj sound alike 6 years after Pink Friday. (WTF is a "Curly Fryz"?)
After one listen through, I gotta say people its getting harder and harder to find those one or two "GREAT" Prince songs. There is no "Future Soul Song" here. Hell, Judith's "TURN UP" is 1000x better than every track here.
June might have been interesting but come on it sounds like a left over track from Bria's album.
AOA at least had its sci-fi theme and some interesting genuine sentimentality. PLECtRUM will aways have a place in my collection because of ANOTHERLOVE. Not sure what Prince is "trying to say" here at all.
Would have been better to just give this away like a EP 'remix' add-on to AOA. (which probably was the intention). I wonder how much TIdal had to pony up for this? LOL.
Shudder to imagine what "Phase 2" will be

Partyman (The purple party mix. 1989) did it far better on the intro too. I bet Josh never heard that one though.
