I think this album may draw a HARD LINE between the generational lines of Prince fandom.

I was at Paisley Park last night when they played this thing. This is a BIG generalization/observation but here is what I saw:

The 20-30somethings were digging it hard. The portion of the fanbase that grew up with Prince rapping will have no problem digesting this. Is he embracing "current" sounds?

Yes. He has always done this. HITnRUN is Prince through and through. He's taking trends and making them his, and spitting out something new, and unlike anything else that's being done in pop.

To me, HITnRUN is like Art Official Age's bigger, badder, more naughty/rowdy brother. I am really liking it.

Funny in an interview I think it was Musicology era... He said something about how instruments are so important because in the future music will sound like just a bunch of computers...

HITNRUN is a funky, essentric, electric and wild album! It's weird in way only PRINCE can do. Is he embrassing modern sounds? Yes. But Not the way every other artist or packaged artist does. He is creating a new sound that is far above the rest. Yes, he has always done this.

NO ONE can touch PRINCE. No One.

I like this collection of songs. For the first time in a while, I listened to this album and could see myself groovin to some of this on the dancefloor. And I mean, Groovin'! I think this is kind of experimental; it's obviolsu taking a few dance tunes formulas and adding lots of Prince touches. I'm even thinking that these songs, especially Million $ Show, Shut This Down, Ain't About to Stop, and definitely, Like A Mack (my 5 year old was going wild on this one), are geared towards a younger crowd. For me it sort of hits a snag with the THis Could B Us remix...I hate this one. this and Fallinlove2Nite wholly disrupts the groove at this point. But it picks up again with a vengeance with X's Face, and I love it after that point.

June and 1000 X's and O's are very nice as the slower grooves on the album.

I thought I was going to hate this based hearing This Could B Us, but upon a few hearings, esecially today nonstop in the car, I think this is a great album.

as an album the title hitnrun gives a reason for 'scattershot' as the NYT says so Prince definitely knows what hes doing, and joshs average edm production doesnt overshadow princes songs at all.

Also & Joshua r fast becoming the new Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis of the twin cities. Everyone knows Jimmy is the main composer of the highly successful duo. With Terry adding the funk juices. It's the same arrangement here but MORE profound...It's a match made n purple heaven...

Yeah to me upon the first listen, it is more of a collection of things that maybe were intended for AOA, alot of voices and beats from that album are here, not to mention there is one remix, one song redone, but all in all the music is good, just not very album like, the way he spoke on it earlier was that it was some kind of masterpiece, but its more just a collection of songs that were good that came after the fact. Nothing really stands out to me yet as a great track though.

Most of it reminds me of those times when I'm out late on the weekend and I scan my car stereo to find something to listen to but can only find a bunch of loud, poorly mixed house/rap music, so I end up listening to Dixieland jazz on NPR.

I really like June, but I wish it was longer. That's about the best I can say. This could be my least favorite Prince album. Why is he releasing this with songs like Revelation and Stare in his arsenal?

And can anybody tell me why I can't space between paragraphs on here anymore?

Do not understand all the haters. HITnRUN is not that bad. It's different, it has courage, it plays with expectations. I like it at first listen. Let's wait and see how it works with time. Standout tracks for me: Shot this down and 1000 hugs and kisses. Those who shit on this track praising the original now are probably the same who shit on the original back in the 90ies claiming that it was the worst he's ever released, bla bla.
