Talent never dies. But you have to work on it. And he doesn't seem to work too hard on his lyrics anymore. And with a funk jam like this, that's fine. Although James Brown knew how to combine funk jams with deep lyrics. THIS. His lyrics have been super lazy for years. When was the last time he wrote great lyrics? Poetry that could match SOTT or Moonbeam Levels or In a Large Room With No Light? Even Wasted Kisses? His recent lyrics are very shoddy. Sure, maybe I shouldn't have said he "can't" write good lyrics anymore. But where's the evidence that he CAN?! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

WAY BACK HOME? I love the song but the lyrics aren't all that great. They're far from terrible. No Life o' the Party or Baltimore. But they're definitely not top tier Prince lyrics in my opinion. Again, I love the song. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Reflection might come close, but again not top tier. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Yeah. I danced to it. It's hard to get into it because I wanted things a certain way and no one seemed to listen except for one girl there who tried her best, and in my opinion did better than the rest.. Students were ahead of it and worse in ways from the last two years that I was there... I'm not going to go too deep into it because I need to stay in a positive mood, but basically they had 3 old judges who didn't seem to like Prince music that much.. (no disrespect to old people, but these were literally seniors who did this and in my opinion had no business doing this because they should've had the audience vote.) Besides all that stress, I had a good time hanging out with my friends backstage. So overall, it was fun. ”The people that will end up defining ‘Hate Speech Laws’ are the very people you don’t want to define the Hate Speech Laws” — Jordan B Peterson

Way Back Home is good. Breakdown is good. He still has it. It's just hard to find between all the 13-in-a-dozen (that's a Dutch expression) tunes he has been doing for so long. So if Prince wants to do another funk jam, that's fine. I like what I've heared so far. But Prince the songwriter... I only hear him every once in a while...

Yeah, I don't mind decent (at best) lyrics when it comes to the straight funk jams. I mean, Kiss had stupid lyrics too. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

The horns are straight from prince, the time was all prince except for the vocals, the whole concept of uptown/mineapolis funk is prince.

Regarding, "This party's goin' ham", ham could also refer to "hamming for the camera", which would be more in keeping with the lyrics "just stare".

Are you saying that it is no longer phat to say HAM? (Just in case, when I was at Bob Evans today and the waitress asked what side dish I wanted with my eggs and toast, I said "the flat pig meat that isn't bacon or sausage"...) "3123...that's next door to where the party be..."

I wonder if Prince is referring to his old self (Dirty Mind era-Prince) when he says "We use to go on stage in a underwear". ”The people that will end up defining ‘Hate Speech Laws’ are the very people you don’t want to define the Hate Speech Laws” — Jordan B Peterson

Note you still have these two dimensional opinions.
Dimension one: Prince is desperate for publicity.
Dimension two: Prince just wants to make as much as money as he can.
He may have recorded many of the songs well before Baltimore, so where do you get the sequence 1) now that he had all the promo Baltmore 2) he's doing party music?
You heard snippets so you don't know if it's all "party music" and most of the album was likely recorded before Baltimore, so this is just you seeing things the way you want to see them, nothing more.

Cool beat, and I like the vocal delivery. Lyrics are so so, but I'll withhold judgment until he releases the full song -- lyrics could go in interesting directions, hard to tell based on snippets. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"
