I wondered if Prince would come out with something like this. It has to have caught his attention just how massively successful "Uptown Funk" has been, which copies his 80s sound so much that my son thought it was Prince the first time he heard it.

[Edited 5/27/15 13:00pm]

You know, its funny to me when people say that about Uptown Funk because it sounds ALOT more like various other 80's funk bands more than Prince to me. It has a small hint of The Time in it but sounds NOTHING like Prince, in musical composition or lyrics.

Dude give me a break. The song is a Time rip off.... Bronson would say it himself. Lol

Talent never dies. But you have to work on it. And he doesn't seem to work too hard on his lyrics anymore. And with a funk jam like this, that's fine. Although James Brown knew how to combine funk jams with deep lyrics.

THIS. His lyrics have been super lazy for years. When was the last time he wrote great lyrics? Poetry that could match SOTT or Moonbeam Levels or In a Large Room With No Light? Even Wasted Kisses? His recent lyrics are very shoddy. Sure, maybe I shouldn't have said he "can't" write good lyrics anymore. But where's the evidence that he CAN?!

WAY BACK HOME?

There are rare exceptions. But it's obvious he struggles with lyrics even though he doesn't know it lol. His lyrics are laughable. This song is no exception

I wonder if Prince is referring to his old self (Dirty Mind era-Prince) when he says "We use to go on stage in a underwear".

Prince has been creating music since 1965??

Didn't he write his first song when he was 7?

Ham stands for: hard as a motherf**ker. Therefore, this word is easily defined as "going hard as a motherf**ker". Every other definition I've seen on this website is definitely not right.

John: You know what I'm gonna do tonight?

Class: No, what??

John: I'm goin ham.

Jenny: What's going ham mean?

John: Ham means "hard as a motherf**ker". So goin ham means I'm gonna go hard as a motherf**ker.

so when they say going hard as a mothafucka, does it mean getting a boner and going somewhere?

It pretty much means going balistic on someone or going big/crazy with your emotions... doing something with the most determination.

It's used a lot in the USA. I think mostly by teens or just young people in general

Yessir! prince & his close friend Andre Cymone(who eye saw a few times earlier this year) are REAL artist! They create muziq non-stop rather U like it or not....It pores out of them...

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Don't get your hopes up too high. It says new music, not new album. So even if he only releases a full version of this in mid-September, he will have kept his promise. Don't expect too much and we won't be disappointed.

Could it be that he plans to release 3 digital albums at a time ?

1 Prince album (Million Dollar Show, X's Face, Shut This Down...),

1 3EG (What If,...)

1 NPG (Big City, 2Y2D, Stare,...) ?

Sounds like a song by Moloko but with a lot less attention to detail. I think this tune would have had loads of potential to be a great head bobber but it sounds like he rushed it like he often seems to these days. It also doesn't sound at all organic which is a shame because the combo between Ida's bass playing and his guitar phrasing is awesome live. I also think his over use of multi tracking vocals but not thinning them out means everything is dominated by heavy handed vocal mixing. I think Prince's problem is more to do with production than song writing (not that this is really a song as such as its basically a groove). That being said he has always been guilty of knocking out a very mixed bag in terms of quality with some songs just sounding purile and not good examples of the genre in which they sit. The sheer output he has means that he will always have some gems and some dross but I wish he would come up with the idea and then turn the song into a well oiled machine like he did with some of the re-worked stuff from the gigs he played from the end of 2001 and to 2004. The band was so tight. If he played a groove like this with a band that tight, it would be totally awesome. It would leave breathing space to let the band improv and give it that spur of the moment feel that some of the better aftershow jams have. Its thos elittle moments of magic that are missing.

If u look at the copyright notice on iTunes Baltimore was NOT released thru WB. The licencing deal with WB concerns the old WB albums but P is still free to release new music on any label he wishes.

.

I bet WBR get first right of refusal.

Bart please don't be so much bad faith, this is a DIGITAL single on iTunes, there is no prior investment in printing CD's, a record label can only MAKE money from releasing a single on iTunes no matter how little it sells, by no means lose any, and u know it perfectly.

Such a scenario will ensure that them b00tleggars will gladly take up this apparently outsourced task and produce physical media.

I.e.: it would be quite stupid for mr Prince to act like this.

That snippet sounds better than anything on AOA.

Two things: -nobody said anything about a new album.

-Princely history had shown us many times-take any announcement with a grain of salt until the album is actually in your hands

And it doesnt have that fingernails on the chalkboard sound of Art Officila Age!

I'll say it. If the rest of the track is as good as this then I say he has a hit on his hands. A bonofide hit.

I say he HIRE PROFESSIONALS and set out to shoot a cool video. This track looks like it could have legs.
