What will P do with the material from the vault?

Do you think there's more of a chance of Prince burning the tapes than transferring to digital or vice versa?
Prince knows what his fans want. Because of that he'll either eventually give it to us or he won't because he knows how much we want it...

Here's a plan - If everyone stopped going to see him in concert he couldn't make a living from live shows, and would have to... release remasters and vault stuff?

Fuck, I'm a genius. geek

i don't expect Prince to ever release unreleased songs from the vault again.

He has shown 0 interest in doing that. I think he knows that there's a lot of mystery surrounding the vault and he loves to keep it that way

He's not exactly predictable, so he may wake up one set and decide to get some stuff out. What happens the following day is anyone's guess.

I do think that destroying it would be remembered as an act of eccentricity. But releasing it would be remembered as an incredible contribution of art to the world and end up being far more historically important in future.

I know many people don't like it but I think his MO will continue to be similar to what he did with Extraoveable or Future Soul Song etc. he dusts them off, revamps them, releases them as a standalone, adds them to an album. Sometimes we don't know what is and what isn't a "vault" track.

I hope we get to see some relatively unaltered songs released on special editions, the Purple Rain remaster would be/would have been a good marker.

I don't think he'll burn them. I genuinely think he has already converted from degrading tape.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

lol probably won't happen. But what if we could find a way to speak of that plan to every Purple fan? Even casual fans? (Well most of casual fans) some people may be like "oh, f*** that! I'm going to see Prince!" But maybe the majority will like that plan...
Trevor Guy: Hey Prince, your last concerts had a decent amount of ticket sales, but they seem to be DROPPING drastically!! We did a survey and 80% said they were casual fans!
Prince: Well what's happening with Prince's money??
Trevor Guy: You ain't making as much as you usually do!
And eventually it seems like if the rate worsens, there will only be about 25% of tickets sold that is is usually!
Prince: Ok, well Trevor fetch me the combination to the lock of the Vault, we better get cracking and give Purple-Army what they want!

Burn it probably. As all his associates said in that BBC doc - he has absolutely no sentimentality regarding his work or his past. To him what he recrods today is just as important as what he done in 79-88

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

I am sure it will be destroyed upon his death or before unless Larry outlives him. He has noone to leave it to and he will make sure that NOONE else will make money off of him.

That's a very good question.
Also, this... Where will his royalties go to when he dies?

we arent that many serious P fans left.

we have the Purple Army.

just as an idea and a stunt it would work.

purple army should contact change.org.

I don't think we will hear them in our lifetime.

Prince estate will end up in hands of lawyers.

Prince will troll us from the grave.

WOW. lol As I just posted in another thread I truly believe Prince has already realeased the decent stuff from the vault: SOTT, GB, Black Album, Crystall Ball.

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

How much do you think a kickstarter thing would need to collect to hire a band of mercenaries or ex-spies to break into the vault and steal everything in it... that kind of things is always happening in TV series and films! Oceans Seven. Mission Imprinceable...

.

Failing that what about military action? Anyone got a tank?!?

Comin str8 outta Preston...

prince has already planned on what will happen to his vault "MasterPieces" in case the unfortunate happens. It far surpasses Tupaq's post muziq. So don't count on it being opened b 4. Besides the disrespecteful, unauthorized, bootlegging, that is currently happening.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I thought he was cool with bootlegs so long as no one turns a profit?

He can't do anything with it in his own lifetime besides give it away. In fact, even that may be immensely problematic legally. Just imagine trying to defend the copyrights to all that music from the Pharrell's of the future: Computer Blue(mix 12), or When Doves Cry(Nude Tour, Brussells, 3rd Rehearsal, Miko's guitar). There is a lot of shit in there and as fans we want every single second of it.

As much as Prince talks shit about various ethnic groups, enslavement and CONtract law, and the uneven distibution of wealth in western societies.... those are the very same people who will ultimately profit off the vault in time unless he starts giving that shit away or selling it online before he passes. Yet the nightmare of trying to manage and distribute all that shit in an effective way, is such that Prince would be completely overwhelmed attempting to release it.

It's far simpler for Prince to just keep throwing songs in the vault than trying to take them back out.

Honestly i believe P rerecorded/ reworked and released many of those songs from the vault. These so called new tracks may be new to us , but not so new at all .

As much as I would LOVE to have all the songs in the vault, I say let PRINCE be. GEEEZ! We as "fans" do not own him or his music other than what releases for sale. Sometimes, the comments on prince.org just makes me sad. Let the man be and let him do what he wants. It's HIS life not ours.

***** NOTE to Prince ******

PRINCE,

Thanks for all the wonderful music you have released so far. I appreciate your art and creativity and your work.

Wishing you continued success and peace.

He has no children to pass it down to,but even if he did,I doubt he would want a bunch of posthumous albums released when he's gone.

Oddly enough, I can say that I dont care. And I say that with no disdain or bitterness. I have more Prince music that I can listen to thorooughly in this lifetime. I have been alive long enough to witness the birth of his astounding career and the evolution of his bondless genius. I am grateful for the gifts that God has given him as I truly consider Prince songs to be just that - gifts. If another new song never came to the public ear, I would not feel as if we had actually missed anything.

Didn't he address this on Arsenio couple years back? He said something along the lines " Someone will release it when I pass. "

I have no doubt that he thinks about it and often re-visits songs from the vault.
In recent years he has played Purple Music, Moonbeam Levels, Electric Intercourse live and also reworked Extra Loveable and In a Large Room With No Light.

As to when/if he will release songs from the vault on mass I don't see that happening for many years, or even after his passing.
