In such case we can only remember him as the conflicted person he apparently is.

Not so much as the genius he is sometimes perceived to be.

My guess is, he's waiting for his own death before that stuff comes out.

Not a bad strategy, really. He seems to have an aversion to revisiting past recordings, so heck with it, let those things sit untended and he can spend his energies on something he wants to do.

Now the question becomes... who would be entrusted to handle the posthumous releases? Somehow I can't imagine him turning the vault keys over to WB and saying "I trust you, do whatever you want with it."

I feel like a really horrible person to wish that another human being would get their home broken into and all their stuff taken, but in this case I could live with it.

If Im ever diagnosed with a fatal disease and have only a few months to live, maybe I'll go out mission impossible style and get that music into circulation.

...cuz I've been waiting for these vault tracks since I heard about them in 1988. I'm 45 years old and these ears aint getting any younger.
