This month we’ve created the Super Purple Prince Song Tournament to crown the best Prince song. Over the next two weeks, we’ll put a new round of brackets to vote on until we crown the one true Super Purple Prince song.

*Note: We included songs by Prince as well as Prince associated acts, and carefully selected by the PodcastJuice committee have seeded them based on strength of song, impact, and (where applicable) Billboard charting history.

ROUND TWO saw most of the favorites win and in dominating fashion although glad to see 'Sometime it Snows in April' still in it. Don't think it will get past 'Purple Rain' but have seen crazier things.

Who the hell would vote for "Manic Monday" over "Housequake"? This #3 vs #14 bracket should be a Varsity homecoming landslide. "Manic Monday" is a well written pop song for The Bangles and the ladies in the band injected their own verve and personality in the lyrics and music of that song but "Housequake" is one of the few songs where Prince produced a song in the vein of James Brown's best funk songs but has so many of Prince's musical quirks and idiosyncrasies that make wholly unique unto himself.

I took #16 "Diamonds And Pearls" over #1 "Little Red Corvette". I know #1 will win but never was crazy about studio version of "LGC". Plus I have heard "Little Red Corvette" so many times over the years, that I sometimes take for granted the greatness of the elements that made the song a pop classic. With that said, I know my sheet in the Grafitti bridge Region at least in the bracket will be bsuted, fuck it lol.

Can't believe Anna Stesia lost to Anotherlover though. Anotherlover is a brilliant song but I just...Anna Stesia is on another LEVEL.

I voted for When You Were Mine but, come on, it was up against Controversy. I just knew Prince's finest ever piece of pop was about to lose out.

Controversy aint shit. I said it.

If that's how you feel then fair enough, but really? Ain't shit? That's harsh for what I personally believe to be a defining track in Prince's discography. Even so, I have to admit that I rarely go out of my way to listen to Controversy, whereas I still can't get enough of When You Were Mine more than thirty years since first dropping the needle onto side 1, track 2 of Dirty Mind.

Has Round 3 started yet, I went to the site and only one song was available, Kiss vs Mountains, I chose Mountains of course.

I hope Purple Rain does not win. This will have all been for naught.

Totally shocked at some of the results. I can't believe at what a beast the Purple Rain album has been with FIVE songs remaining.

Much as I've enjoyed voting, I think this is where the whole thing falls apart. The round 4 list in no way represents what I believe to be Prince's finest work. That's what happens when you put songs against each other in a somewhat arbitrary head-to-head.

It looks like we're going to end up with Joy in Repetition, When Doves Cry, Computer Blue and Let's Go Crazy. At least Joy in Repetition is going to destroy Purple Rain; otherwise, we'd have ended up with the Super Purple Rain Album Prince Song Tournament.

You guys need to keep it open longer than a few hours, its closed AGAIN!!! Also I live in New Zealand where our timezone is 17 - 19 hours ahead of you and we show our dates as day/month/year so the American times and formats are very confusing.
