Sounds like they may have been raiding the late 80s vault though. Very Camille...

No it doesn't.
.
Really, why do fams always want to label something as "Camille" when those things clearly don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as that project?
F*ck me. You're still here and still talking sh*t! I haven't liked much of princes output since 88, but it doesn't stop me from liking the odd track. When I say this has a "Camille" sound to it, I know what I'm talking about. There's nothing at all about this track that reminds you of Scarlett Pussy? haha Put the blinkers back on Bart, and move along. [Edited 3/16/15 5:09am] no way this sound like Camille, not at all |

I'll take either What If or X's Face over other recent non-album radio singles. Rich Friends, Hot Summer, Cause & Effect, Turn Me Loose, etc. But Vavoom is the shit. Yes, that's 15 years old. But as far as (at least initally) radio releases to, it's a better song than any of these others. you're old lol Vavoom lol
I am! I had heard Vavoom live at Paisley and over the PA there during DJ sets. Then I happened to hear Vavoom when it played on KDWB, a shitty station. I love that song. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

The Banana...
My first thought was that it was a tongue in cheek joke possibly aimed at those fans seeking a PR Remaster?
On LGC he was "looking for the purple banana"... In this track he found said banana years ago and ...it's laying about here somewhere.
As for the monkey noises... "we want the PR Remaster" he translates as "C'mon dance monkey dance"? |

Of course, it's tongue-in-cheek! The whole song is, including the monkey noises. Anyone trying to make more of this song is over-analyzing...IMO. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Listened to this new song about 5 times earlier today. Can't remember it now. I think some of this new music just lacks that special melody that I would remember and start to hum and want to play song again. I think the song had an interesting style and I like the humor in it but 5 years from now I doubt I will year to hear it.
The next Prince song I heard today after "The Ex's Face" was "Mountains".... Which brought it all home. Songwriting. Melody. Structure. Its like 2 different people. His music used to be much more sophisticated. I really think he's done. That's not a criticism, just a fact of life. And its OK- there's always the old albums to play. Its almost like he strives for mediocrity. And with 3rdeyegirl, plays down to their level. In any event, we are so far removed from the " Parade" level creativity/songwriting- its like an entirely different artist.
Well, music in general used to be more sospisticated and varied. Honestly, is there anyone out there now putting out music on the level of Mountains? I think we have to accept that music is in a regression stage because every idea in the pop realm has been exhausted many times over.
Its a decent track. Just Prince putting his own spin on the current sound. I just dont know what everyone expects of him now. He's done more experimenting and pushing of his sound than 99% of the artists out and people want him to push even more. Maybe he is tapped out. But telling someone like Prince to stop creating is like telling him to stop breathing. |

Let's see how you feel tomorrow, I remember the great turnaround of 2014 Hahahaha. Yeah. Guilty as charged. But I have listened to this one multiple times. Even though I resisted the AOA singles ("singles") at first, none of them had chimp noises. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

This sounds like Joshua took the vocal of an existing track -- one that seems to have been composed on the spot, considering the trite lyrics and uninspired melody; it really has that "this will do" feel so much of Prince's output of the past decade has -- and combined it with a beat he bought from someone else.
.
Pointless and desperate.

Agreed. The version from 2013 Montreux is very good. In the studio, it's ass.

The bolded version is the one used for the file from the download link sent to Louisville ticketholders. So I'm going with that unless there's some other official evidence at some point in the future. |
