This is true. Before UTCM, Kristin was known as Bobby "G" Spot - the name her loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spot from Lincolnshire, gave her (except for the "G").

Prince christened her "Kristin Spot Thomas" at the audtion, Jerome changed 'Spot' to 'Scott' (referencing Gill Scott Herron) and the rest is history.

Prince also taught her French, why is why Kristin is so successfull in both English and French movies.

^^^Source?^^^

Also, LOL at Prince "christening" female talent and making them stars. I can think of Shiela E., Wendy and Lisa and arguably Carmen Electra (who's not known for her music) and Sheena Easton (although she was already successful). Most of the female talent Prince surrounds himself with crash and burn rather hard. Ingred Chavez, Appolonia Kotero, Mayte Garcia, Tamar, Bria Valentine, Vanity, Cat Glover...and who can forget the dancing twins from the 3121 era? Not sure where Kim Basinger might fit into this critique.

I'm not sure why people hate this song so much. I like the "mad scientist" Prince sound with all the layers and whacky shit going on.

the electronic music is really good. it's one of the, if not the, best aspects of the song to me. maybe some people don't like electronic music whatsoever, but that's no reason to call it a bad track. it's much better than the remix of funk n roll imo if Joshua also did the programming on this. also, when I first heard it, the groove reminded me of Black Sweat. 2 questions: Is the computer voice saying, "push, pause, edit, play" & who is the rapper? As far as the racist lyrics, you have to make a leap to assume it is directed at a black person. It probably is, but it's not totally clear. It's true that if a white artist had these lyrics it would receive a lot of objection. What about telling a woman to go into a cage? Can't deny that. Except it is some rapper who says that, not Prince. It's just a joke of course, but we all know you can't make jokes today without offending somebody. If it is right or wrong that is for each person to decide. Is it sexual innuendo? I don't like the whole cage / banana references personally because it is demeaning, but I don't think it ruins the song. By the way, a reporter got fired for saying something like that about Michelle Obama. I still don't understand what the song is about. I thought maybe "excess phase" or try & think of another word for face, then what is another meaning for that word? smile

one crappy song/album at a time

Both new songs are great imo. Also, AOA is an excellent album except for the filler tracks (Time, WIFL, FNR remix) & with "Way Back Home" being split into 3 tracks, the album still has 8 excellent songs imo. PE has many good, not great, songs imo except PBL which is great. It's not even a Prince album anyway. Hopefully, there will be more free downloads to go along with purchasing tickets like Revelation & 2Y2D.

Some people just don't like it. And that's okay. They like other Prince songs. It's all good.

I listened to it once and that was enough to make me realise that it was 20 times more funky than anything on the uber-disappointing AOA. A really cool track if you like a good groove

This song was in my dream last night.. I think I was in a goth club or a whorehouse.. or something in between. Maybe that means my unconscious mind likes the song.

Change it one more time..

And since Time and What if Feels Like aren't fillers, it's even better! (okay, U Know and The Gold Standard are fillers, so it evens out).

The more I listen to this song, the less I like it. The problem is...I just can't get over that idiotic chimp sounds, and the context it was used. I know Prince is black, but it reeks of racism. How? He talks about black skin not ageing or cracking, then the very next line he's talking about giving a banana to let that person back in a cage. Do I even need to explain how racist this sounds? If this was song by Eminem (or any other white artist), their would be a firestorm saying "White Artist making Racist Lyrics", but since it's by Prince, we'll just give him a pass. Am I calling Prince a racist? No. I don't know the weirdo's heart, but I do know that lyric was childish and flatout stupid.

I don't hear it as racist but what came to mind was the old saying 'make a monkey out of me'.

I found myself humming it an hour later razz

-

'What If', makes me appreciate PE, as a whole, better.

Just Prince having a good time rocking out with 3EG. Doesn't have to be deep.

This track is turning out to have good replay value for me. Play it on a good soundsystem and turn it the fuck up. It bangs. Especially when that vocal sample and the hi-hats come back with that distorted bassline.

OK

Put on a pair of high-end headphones whilst your 601's carry the rest of the bass.

Or ask your friendly DJ at the club to spin it on their sick-ass system.

I'm mainly a rock-Prince type, but this song keeps me coming back (maybe it's cuz i still can't make out what the frick he's interpolled with the bangin' beat)

any suggestions???

The groove is nice and sounds modern, but unfortunately there is no 'song' that is taking it somewhere. From someone like Prince I just expect a bit more.
