New topic PrintableI follow some Prince fan Twitter accounts and heard the song last night on Twitter. I think it was a UK Prince fan Twitter account. It sounded more computerized and not like a typical Prince quality song. I wonder who this song is about. The fact that he threw in the chasing a banana and he sounded pretty passionate about it makes me think he wrote this song about someone who upset him, but I don't know since I only heard it once. Any thoughts? Superfunkycalifragisexy!

That is a TOTAL LIE! STOP living in the past or just close your account, & follow a BORING non talented artist.. The hate here is just unbearable & unnecessary... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I strongly support KCOOLMUZIQ on this sentiment regarding phony "Prince fans" who are members of the Org only to take the frequent dump on our guy. Say what you need to say then leave it....but the constant negativity means you will be challenged at every turn. May I suggest an alternate fan sight for a musician who lives in the past and may be more your speed? "Air Supplyfans.org" or perhaps "StyxNation.com?"

I've heard it once and liked it, very different tone and message to "What If?" which I also like. I'm not in clubbinng mode at this time of my life (except maybe if I could slip into an Osunlade or Marques Wyatt deep house set somewhere) but this seems to be an attempt to present something club-worthy. Reminds me of the time when "My Name is Prince" came out and all of a sudden you'd see hear it along with the video at clubs in the early 1990s.

I think I can honestly say that is the best new track he's released since... I don't even know when!
Sounds like they may have been raiding the late 80s vault though. Very Camille... and there's nothing wrong with that at all
More of this please !!!!!

This sounds like Joshua took the vocal of an existing track -- one that seems to have been composed on the spot, considering the trite lyrics and uninspired melody; it really has that "this will do" feel so much of Prince's output of the past decade has -- and combined it with a beat he bought from someone else. . Pointless and desperate. © Bart Van Hemelen

. No it doesn't. . Really, why do fams always want to label something as "Camille" when those things clearly don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as that project? © Bart Van Hemelen

Pointless and desperate. Yes! It does sound like some weak sketch vocal that Josh went to town with. People keep acting like this song is so original. There's nothing original about it. It sounds like a billion other garbage songs on the radio. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

A great freakily funky, playful track. A relief after What If. An entire album in this vein would be brilliant.

nice fun track to hear for a few times with a good soundsystem and a sub. but nothing special that will be remembered in a few month/years imo.

And just for the record,

Probably because of the sped-up or slowed-down voice(s).

F*ck me. You're still here and still talking sh*t!
I haven't liked much of princes output since 88, but it doesn't stop me from liking the odd track. When I say this has a "Camille" sound to it, I know what I'm talking about.
There's nothing at all about this track that reminds you of Scarlett Pussy? haha
Put the blinkers back on Bart, and move along. [Edited 3/16/15 5:09am]

This song is ACTUALLY GOOD, I'm kind of gob-smacked. Really should be a proper single. The monkey thing is silly, but doesn't derail it.

Amazing he's still got that falsetto but the song kinda doesnt go anywhere and gets boring fast. Nice little experiment/bside/unreleased track but not really a full song.

Thanks for the insight and I probably jumped on your track a little quick. I've also had a listen to some of the other stuff you're producing and liked what I heard.
Thanks also for listening to my stuff, even if it doesn't grab you. Just wanted to highlight your insightfulness though, as the Eat Static mention is hugely relevant - both Eat Static and my band came from the same original band, Ozric Tentacles. So, given we're kinda sister acts (or, at least born of the same group), it's no surprise that you hear some Static similarity (and we've all been making music (together or otherwise) since the 80s, so there you go.
Anyways, keep on with putting your stuff out there - all music has virtue, which is why I don't like to see musicians getting on others ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I love this track. It's the kind of spare, funky, weird Prince song that I like best. Yeah, it doesn't really go anywhere, but I'd rather have one of these than ten "What If"s...

I'll take either What If or X's Face over other recent non-album radio singles. Rich Friends, Hot Summer, Cause & Effect, Turn Me Loose, etc. But Vavoom is the shit. Yes, that's 15 years old. But as far as (at least initally) radio releases to, it's a better song than any of these others. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Cause & Effect actually sounded good performed live, much better than the recorded version. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
