New topic PrintableAll it really needs is a bridge. Something to take it into a slightly different area for a spell. Beyond that, I think it's fine. I love "mad scientist studio weirdo Prinnce".

Time and What It Feels Like are two of the best songs on AOA not "fillers" you fools be tripping. And this song is a nice little groove, not as good as any of those but still pretty banging.

Yeah, you might be right there. Bridge sounds like cliche. No, what this arrangement needs is an additional wow effect. A refinement which elevates it even more. And that's exactly what Prince's music is missing for decades now (because of being too conservative). It's a good groove, the idea is there, but he doesn't manage to make a difference anymore.

Says who? will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Says someone who is not a sycophant and is actually critical towards Prince's music, because criticism is justified in this case. And even if it is not justified (in YOUR opinion), everyone here is still free to give his or her opinion , as this is a forum and that is what forums are for.

Agreed, Prince's music has been too safe for too long a time. My feeling is that he wants a hit record so bad that he often dumbs/waters down the music in hope of appealing to the general public. His best music was made when he just recorded music for music's sake, without thinking too much about Top 40 success. I feel that TRC was his last effort that combined easy-to-listen-to music with artistic value (musically, lyrically it was a shady affair). RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

If this song had a bridge, I would jump right off of it. The song is weak. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Unfortunately it didn't last for long. Yes TRC was the last real comeback album by Prince, Lotusflow3r also gaved some hope. AOA is a good album but nowhere near the brilliance of TRC Welcome 2 The Dawn

To me Lotusflow3r was nothing but a very predictable mainstream version of TRC. Less controversial, less conceptual, less artistic, more guitar solos in order to make up for rather boring songwriting etc. I don't like that album at all tbh.
AOA might be a different story. I kinda like its more modern approach, but again there are too many compromises being made. Which dilutes its artistic statement way too much. Besides it's just not well paced at all (too many slow songs).
Before going completely off topic: I do like "Ex's face". It's the much better "Black Sweat" (very unconvincing take on sounding modern).

I agree. I had the same reaction to this that I've had to most new Prince songs in the last fourteen years or so.
1 - "This isn't bad." 2 - "Yeah, this isn't bad at all. He's done far worse." 3 - "Well, it's over." 4 - "...So when's he gonna make a new song?"
Just instantly forgettable. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

100% agreed. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I hate it, just being honest. It is just more of Prince trying to prove that he is hip like U Know or the AOA FunknRoll. Lame song! [Edited 4/18/15 17:30pm]

I'm glad he put it out there. I agree it doesn't go anywhere and is repetitious. Yet I really like it. Not every song has to have complexed arrangments with some deep meaning lyrics. I just enjoy it for what it is. I kind of rides that Poom Poom vibe for me. LOL! . Oh yeah let's not forget it was put out there for free either. I know that doesn't make a song good or bad but if it isn't your thing you're only out the time spent listening to it. "Hey, I got the butta 4 ya muffin, honey.. I'm just 2 old 2 hold the knife!"

Another generic track for the clubs, wouldn't call it a song. Prince has a great voice though. ...every night another symphony...

Haha, this is the exact reaction I get from my girlfriend 9 out of 10 times when I play new Prince songs! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
