Time to give up on the Purple Rain anniversary reissue? So, it's almost the end of the year and end of the Purple Rain anniversary. Should I give up on the idea of a remaster with B-sides and outtakes?
Damn you Prince, I wanted that remaster so much! [Edited 10/26/14 1:44am]

I have a feeling we'll get an announcement around the time of SNL. I do believe it will come soon though as to any extra content, your guess is as good as mine.

There have been several anniversary releases in recent times that did not get to be released in "the anniversary year". I believe Cyndi Lauper's She's So Unusual reissue came out this year instead of 2013, George Michael's Faith 25th anniversary edition came out in 2011, not 2012. And of course Thriller 25 failed to come out in December 2007, instead it was released in February 2008. So it won't be that weird if Purple Rain reissue comes out in 2015, there is definitely no time for it this year and surely Warner did not want to release 3 Prince CDs at the same tim. U may need 2 have your emotional issues checked by a specialist. It's 10/26, still plenty of time for a release date announcement. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

As much as I'd like to hear PR clear and sparkly in a remastered state, I'm really not all that arsed. Digital remastering takes away the warmth from the original. I mostly listen to PR on vinyl anyway and I just think it sounds so much better.

I was so moved by your aching fan heart I wrote you a beautiful lament to recite as you cry softly.
This could be the saddest poem that's ever been told
Lament 4 An Anniversary Gone By
Time to give up Alas all is lost Time to tear up Hope comes at a cost
Shall never be Ever never be A Purple Rain Anniversary Remaster Oh my misery
Time to well up Alas all is over Give all hopes up Dream's lost forever
Shall never be Ever never be A Purple Rain Anniversary Remaster Oh my misery my misery my misery

I lost interest once it became clear this was going to be a half-azzed remaster and more half-azzed new bands and songs. Meaning no box set, no movie remaster, no reunions with anybody, and apparently not even outtakes ("it's the exact same album"). Once I heard that Prince is releasing 3 new albums this year under three different names. Prince is going to leverage the PR release to promote his weaker new material, and less interesting bands and proteges. Prince is going to assume contol of his catalog and then DO NOTHING cool with it. I thought here we go again. Prince doesn't get it. We are set to celebrate 1984 and this guy wants to throwback to the weak-sauce antics of 1994. Nice. Wake me when you're done/ I guess you'll be the only one having fun.

I've heard several rumors that it will be November which makes perfect sense as that's the Christmas buying season.
I predict it will be before Black Friday and I doubt there will be much promotion. Why would there be? The people who are going to be interested in buying it are going to buy it with no promotion and the average everyday person probably won't care.
I hate to bring up Skeletor McNoseless, but does anyone know how much the remastered Thriller sold? MJ was contantly in the public consciousness, (mostly through bad press) but Prince - though constantly working - is only acknowledged on occcasion when he makes one of his 'comeback' albums like Musicology or 3121.
The fact that the media refers to them as comeback albums even though Prince never really goes way shows you how the public thinks of Prince. Respected when brought up in conversation, but not brought up in conversation much unless he's doing something to which the average Joe/Josephine can relate.
My point is I don't feel the nostalgia is there to warrant WB spending HUGE money on a huge promo thing. I could be wrong, for sure. I have no numbers. I don't remember any promotion for any remasters of OLD records, even one as beloved as Purple Rain.
The press release said this year, (I think) and Black Friday makes the most sense for a release date and the little promo the release warrants. If it were out already what little buzz it might generate would be long gone by the time the holiday buying season got here.
If it comes out this year it will be in the neighborhood of Black Friday. That's all that makes sense.

I seriously doubt it will be November, though I'd love to be proved wrong. Outlets would have been furnished with release details by now and there would have been an announcement by now, seeing that we're one month away from the end of November.
It has to be said that promotion for the two new albums has been poor. The guy's a legend and I would thought an appearance on Good Morning America in the week of release would have happened. I think it's safe to say that something's not quite right with the relationship between Prince and Warners at the moment.
Then again, it could be Prince being perverse and not wanting too much promo, as ridiculous as it seems. I really doubt that, but then Fallinloveove2nite not being released off the back of the "New Girl" episode is one of the most senseless things that's ever happened in Prince World. A no brainer that would have reaped considerable dividends for him.

Rumour i heard past summer......but i have now HUGE HUGE HUGE DOUBTs to see this happening now even with a PR DELUXE 2 cds form!
I heard from a source pretending to be in the know that WB would consider an Anthology for the 30 years of PR.....this is considered at thi stage as a work in progress (this is too a Rumour at this stage So....u know the rest) : This Anthology would be a BIG DELUXE PACKAGING with a memoralia Book + 10 cds ....this anthology would be centered around the remastered version of 4 Albums:
Dirty Mind Controversy 1999 Purple Rain
....the remaining 6 ds = various unreleased stuff ( no details at this stage)

Too many cd's... Prince would definitely screw this up. Don't get me wrong, the era deserves a package like that, the fan-base deserves a product like that, but it needs to be handled correctly. This should not be a Prince one man effort. They would have to bring in some people to really put this together right. They would need The Revolution involved, Morris, Andre and Dez, even if it's just commentary. It can't be Prince slapping random shit together up at Paisley like the One Night Alone box set, and still do justice to the importance of the music from that era. They need to take the time to make it special.

Sounded like he was performing for 20 people. No stand out moments, except Joy In Repetition. His first LIVE cd set, and no blistering performance of Purple Rain? I swear sometimes it's like he purposely tries to hurt his chances of success.

I'd like a new remaster, but I don't think anyone needs one. The only thing lacking from PR is some BASS. You can find fan edits that fix that problem, though.

I'm sure it'll be in stores by the time Black Friday rolls around, but I'm surprised that a release date and a tracklist hasn't been announced by now.

I just hope that when it does come out, it's better than 1999: The New Master. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

wow...reading many of the comments here is downright depressing! The OP is just expressing what many of Prince remaining fans are currently feeling, about the lack of announcement of the PR reissue. Instead of carrying on a mature conversation with him, many of ya'll started personal attacking him. Seriously, many of ya'll need to chill the F out!
*geting back on the more important topic* @Whiskas - It's obvious the 4th Day of November (as a possible release date) is out of the question now. We may hear something by time of the SNL broadcast, or sometime next month. I can understand your concern, because Prince is well known for just cancelling a project on the drop of a hat. However, this time is different. Prince signed a deal with Warner Bros for the Remaster of Purple Rain to be released, so it's gonna happen. The best we can do is sit by and search the web for any new bits of info.

this will never happen.Warners can barely get Prince to agree to one remaster. There's no way he'll agree to some big,multi-disc anthology set, lol.

Nothing? Just the fact that Prince said there will be no Revolution reunion, PR remaster is "the exact same album", there are 3 albums of hum-drum new songs announced but no official release date for PR, and that the protoge acts haven't heard from him at all. Add to that the fact that many of his recent quotes sound like they could be reprinted from around the time the Hits and B-Sides album were released and the public was clamoring for a Prince and The Revoluion reunion, but instead we got a lot of bad NPG music. It's the same old story out at Paisley Park.

Bottom line, nobody really cares enough, including Prince. Therefore, probably no release. I'm sure WB have realised there is nothing in this for them sales-wise. Done. Back to touring you go Prince if you love it still. Or just retire and enjoy your money, You legend. You owe nobody nothing.

that's where you're wrong.A Purple Rain remaster (if it's done right) could be quite profitable. It could even outsell AOA.
