If PE and AOA had been hits we would have got PR this year, as it would have rode the wave of success and name recognition. Because PE and AOA sold very very poorly WB has no momentum to ride out this year and likely feels the 12 people who bought AOA wont even bother with a remaster, espeicially if it has no unheard tracks on it. I predict PR remasters will come out next year around xmas with no new Prince records to compete. Unless prince tours with the rev. Then things could happen sooner.

For a guy who's obsessed with money, Prince is such a fucking moron when it comes to milking his back catalog. He could have forced ("forced") me to buy his albums like four times already.

For those of us aware of The Purple Rain 30th Anniversary Remaster Deluxe Edition are disappointed about it probably won't ever happen (I know I am). Let's face the reality that the Purple Rain Remaster just isn't gonna happen. Prince in that recent interview was against the release of it. He even said "same album" which is a direct contradiction of what was promised in their public agreement on the project (see Prince re-signs with WB announcement). Then Prince's two albums flopped (AoA,EP). Knowing Prince's track record, you think he's gonna blame himself for this? No, in Prince's mind he can do no wrong. You know he's gonna blame WB. Remember what happened with Prince and Clive Davis after Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic flopped? Exactly. So instead of a Purple Rain Remaster release in 2015, we're gonna hear about Prince seeking legal action against WB to sever ties with them, and WB counter sueing Prince for breach of contract. In other words, it's gonna be like the 90's all over again. Watch.

Can we expect another name change? lol

You guys are being very dramatic. The reissue WILL come out, just not this year. It will probably feature the original album remastered + an axtra cd with b-sides, remixes and two tracks from the vault, one of them being Electric Intercourse, with the word intercourse edited out, the other a live rendition of a track frome the period (possibly Possessed)

The wooh is on the one!

Is it time to give up on the Purple Rain anniversary reissue? No, but it IS time to stop asking if it's time to give up on it.

A remastered Purple Rain is almost a certainty. The market and industry are obviously primed and ready for it. Shame that Prince (if it is him) is holding it up.

.

I would say this one will for sure happen. Any of the others, probably not.

What market? You can't really consider interest expressed on this site viable commercial interest. WB does not.

Primed & ready? The next time that will happen with Prince is most likely following a major collaboration with an up & coming artist that people have actually heard of, or more likely, his death.

I've bought some albums 5-6 times just in the last 20 years. I would totally buy Parade 5-6 times.

Then why oh why great oracle is there a delay?

Why oh why the edits? The dislike is strong in this non-release already!

Dude is an utter idiot. Doesn't release squat for years because no record company or iTunes wants to pay the ridiculous advance he demands, then makes his fans jump through hoops to obtain new music ("hey we'll only play this thing once, unannounced, during a web stream at night"), and then is baffled his new album doesn't sell (after barely promoting it).

.

What he should have done is taught his fans to keep buying records, to keep buying physical items. Instead tour books get pulped or are only available at one concert, international shipping is more expensive than the items you want to buy,... And indeed, the back catalogue isn't curated.

So?

As if the non-buyers don't outnumber the buyers.

PR-buyers are a different type of buyers than the AOA buyer.

.

They aren't even buying hype for 2015!

And edits are evil.

It's funny because the only albums that were ever remastered were for Vinyl. All were remastered in 2011:

Funny you mentioned them and I never bought them... The 80s pressings will do me fine and I don't believe in buying the record for the second time unless it went missing smile
