1) Why would a reissue need a "box" if there is nothing extra?

B) This is the way to cut sales drastically: offer nothing new for fans who already have the album except for a new master that, if done by today's industry standards, will sound worse than the original.

Prince and WB will either get a bunch of my money by offering a nice deluxe set or they will get none of my money by tossing out a "remaster" with nothing new to intice me...

Indeed. And if all it ends up being is the album only, then I will just hit the torrent sites to update my digital copy. Prince would be a real dick to approach this project like that and will not be getting any money from me for it in that form.

Same feeling....as I said i don’t know about the details. ..Simple box might mean a box with some goodies = some photos\little book + B SIDES & EXTENDED VERSIONS....but what I understand it's that Prince is not interested by this project at all....and WB needs final approval from Prince so i think that all this project is on a very bad way anyway!

Take this as u want.....i don't know what to think about ????

[Edited 11/19/14 10:30am]

Mentioned this in one of my earlier posts that it wouldnt suprise me if we only got the same tracks remastered and nothing else. If this is correct then it sounds like the relationship is going sour already and Prince is refusing to play ball with WB.

Hope WB has a clause in the contract to cover this because I think Many people already saw this coming.

Safe to say that Prince isn't too happy with the lack of marketing and promotion for the two new albums.

Rereleasing the album without bonus tracks would be pointless.

Yes, give up and set all future bars low, it's the only way to not be frustrated as a Prince fan. If he says something is happening, disbelieve it and then subtract 20, this way you could only be pleasant;y surprised when/if something actually happens, and, well, not dissapointed at all if it doesn't.

A close source told me that WB and Prince are preparing a special box with both Purple Rain and The Gold Experience, called the Purple & Gold box.

A special launch will be held at the Viking Stadium on 1 January 2015. Let the games begin!

Exactly as I speculated from the beginning. Remastered 'does not equal' extra tracks.

Prince has had over £400 out of me this year in gigs and tour merch. Is that not enough? I also wasted a bunch of money travelling to London after a provocative text from his manager who indicated a gig that didn't happen. So yeah, i borrowed his albums off a mate and copied them.

If we're trying to convince him NOT to release any new albums, this is a good start... confused

I bought both CDs, plan on buying both on vinyl, and will buy the most deluxe set offered of a PR reissue... IF there are goodies like previously unreleased material. If not, as I said above, I'll skip it.

You said it all. Pharell had huge hits that sell millions and millions worldwide. Prince doesn't sell millions of singles worldwide. That's the difference.

And like I said in the DIAMONDS AND PEARLS topic, the first single (HAPPY/ GETT OFF) was released way too early before the actual release of the album. The better instance is TMBGITW, which was a huge hit, besides THE GOLD ALBUM released one year later flops terribly.

.

"Happy" was released as a single from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack in Summer 2013, didn't do anything and then got picked up a couple of months later by Dutch DJs some time later and suddenly became a hit. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...erformance

.

Gett Off also wasn't intended as the lead single, was justa one-off single, and then got put on D&P as a replacement for "Horny Pony".

.

TMBGITW: ditto. Was a one-off, inclusion on TGE came much later.

eek

That's exactly what I said

You said WB wouldn't want to release 3 albums coast-to-coast ( no need to be Sherloch Holmes to guess that) but, alas! they released 2 albums the same fucking day, which is a terrible commercial mistake.

Which has nothing to do with Warner Bros, but was at Prince's insistence. WB wants to be able to make as much money off of this disc as they can before the masters go back to Prince, so they cut a deal to allow him to release two albums on the same day. No way, no day they would have done that if Prince hadn't insisted for this deal. Prince, most likely, insisted on these two being released BEFORE PR.

WB may already have the packaging ready, but it still has to be approved by Prince. They had to run by packaging and track listings by him, even after he was no longer on the label, because of his previous contracts with them. You also assume that the bonus material has been cleared by Prince, and that it will include the things you list. Prince may be working on cleaning up outtakes, live recordings, etc that WB doesn't have access to, so you can't assume this was ready to go months ago. It may actually be months before the whole project is finalized and delivered to production plants.

It doesn't take more than a few days to design the reeditions such as PARADE, 1999, etc.

It's not a matter of time, at all, it's just a matter that AOA and PE flopped, because Prince didn't want to be involved.

Again, you really don't understand the inner workings of corporations like WB at all. It may take a few days to design, but it has to go through MANY approvals from the design stage, up through various managers, before landing at Prince's feet for a final "yay" or "nay". If Prince (or any other manager along the way) vetoes the artwork, then it goes back to square one. This actually happens FAR more than most realize. After that, it goes to manufacturing plants, while the marketing team starts putting together their plan to advertise and promote the new set.

At the end of the day, WB is sitting on this until all the AOA/PE promotion is completely done. It may seem like this is already the case to you, but it was only two weeks ago Prince played SNL. As far as the label is concerned, they won't consider promotion ended for at least six months. They are hoping they will pick up in sales as post-Thanksiving shopping heats up. CD's are often bought as "Stocking Stuffers", and so there will be a hope these will get picked up by shoppers on the fly.

[Edited 11/18/14 12:07pm]

I know AOA and PE releases are Prince's fault. You just saying the same thing than me, I didn't understand in what your post differs from my opinion, exept for the promotion.

This promotion is over, from day one, and even before that.

PE is already out of every charts in the world, and AOA wil be out of the billboard next week with the changing of rules.

When Prince played at SNL, there was no annoucement the tracks he played were on his news albums. there was no tv advertizing. SNL had almost no impact on charts, the week after the album stood steady on the charts with 6000 sales. That's very bad.

It's WB' s fault to have accept this contract. They should have say no to Prince. It's not like he had the choice lol

I understand the several approvals for the packaging, but in ten years they had time, and knowing that Prince doesn't care at all about this, they should have showed him a packaging before he signed the contract. Because now they are stuck.

If I were WB, I would have released a 2 disc-set with only the b faces on the first disc following the album, and in the second disc some extented version such as I WOULD DIE 4 U. It's a waste of time to wait for prince's approval, he won't give them anything from the vault, except maybe CLOREEN BACON SKin, just for the fun of it.

With the changing of rules on Billboard, this reedition will have no impact on charts. Good job from WB, really. These guys who make him sign this contract are gonna be fired. If Prince received an advance for the albums, they clearly lost money on AOA and PE.

So, I still don't understand what they are waiting for releasing PR 30 th anniversary.

Maybe Prince is waiting to release Purple Rain until next year? There could be 30th Anniversary Purple Rain tributes at the Grammy's (2/8/15), and/or at the Oscar's (2/22/15). It would make sense in a way to wait until the 1Q of 2015. It is a usual slow time and if they focus on the Grammy wins and most notably Prince's Oscar win that could create a good platform to launch the 30th Anniversary CD/DVD editions. And the re-issues would not have to compete with the other items for sale at Christmas. An Oscar tribute would be great to give the film the respect it deserves. It is a timeless iconic film.

It's coming out because there is still a tour to promote, and Prince has proven he couldn't write a hit single in 2014. Purple Rain is all there is left, at this point. I'd bet it's coming out really soon.

makes no sense at all, because Billboard listed every release until march, and guess what ? No PR.

If WB wanted to avoid the christmas season, they should have released it , well, on the PR anniversary, that is to say on june 2014.

AOA and PE are sub-releases that doesn't sell and that nobody cares of. Even prince's fan here didn't bought it, that means a lot.

There are "suprises" releases such as BEYONCE that are sold digitally. Besides that, you can't release an album without advertising it on amazon, itunes at least 1 month and a half before.

You know damn well there is absolutely zero chances for PR to be released just before the grammys.

Realistically they can release an album when they like, there isnt and rules laid out.

I've not heard anyone outside the fans talk about PR, so whats to say it will sell any better? Especially if its correct that it wont include any bonus material there is no incentive for people to buy it even the fans.

I've already got the HD tracks version if there is no extras I certainly won't be buying it for the sake of it sounding a little better, I think they have had enough of my money this year between gigs and the two albums and think a few others might feel the same.
