My opioions and thoughts. I obviouly skipped some tracks

Thanks for your opinions. I have started a TREMENDOUS project...I am trying to determine which releases have the best sounding quality of each outtake...using Work It 2.0 as a starting point, and then carefully trying to remember which songs have leaked since then...but nobody has shown more than passive interest in wanting to work on this... and varying opinions would be welcome if anyone wants to have a go at this..

In the past I've tried sorting and removing tracks myself, It can be tedious geek sometimes i just give up and store them away lol
I check them against
Parade Demos
30 years of funk (all volumes)
box o chocolate
Work It 2.0
The Work

I also noticed that some tracks on Husney's A Work in Progress are cut a bit short while on other complations they run seconds longer?
Not much difference, but sometimes I hate that mad lol

The thing is you might have 1 song in 2 different qualities. both might equaly have good and bads.
when it comes to this i keep both tracks. If there is an obvous better i just delete the bad
Its all a mater of opinion and taste. but i sure wish i could sit with some one and sort al this out lol

If i have time i will try to look and what you have posted smile

Thanks. I'm trying to make the ultimate outtakes compilation...trying my best to be as close to chronological order as possible, and with the best sounding versions. I'm trying to not include 45 mixes of Gangster Glam, but will include a few versions of unreleased 12 inch mixes...there's no easy way to do this. I have never really listened to much of the 30 years of funk to compare, but it seems there is a ton of overlap there...

Parade Demos and Box of Choc seem to have the best versions...I had trouble figuring out which version of Wonderful Ass on BOC is which one on Work It 2.0

As far as the 1 or 2 seconds longer thing...a lot of times it's just silence...but if there's a big difference, I include both versions. Not an easy project...but I hope I can finish it by the Summer of 2015...

Just a couple of notes -

Moonbeam Levels is by far the best version available. Even better than the recent leak.

Purple Rain isn't really a demo, it's more and early mix of the song.

Empty Room is finally available in it's original stereo version. And sounds amazing.

Adonis & Bathsheiba is clearly a lossless transfer, from whatever source. Much better than the leak.

Electric Chair is a remixed instrumental.

RnR Love Affair (Reloaded) seems lito be an alternate instrumental to the Remix #7 version.

Da Bourgeoisie is the version without horns.

Also, most of the stuff on here appears to be true lossless.

I would disagree with you on Moonbeam Levels. This one on Blast just sounds better than what was around for years...but not better than the leaked MP3...but the leaked MP3 may not even the best leaked version, but that's simply an opinion, as it seems there are several floating around there.

This is how i have mine in folders
I basicly sorted out tracks from Work It 2.0 and The Work. Removed the bad replaced with the good
Again some songs have diffrent speeds and pitches, those are hard to sort out. I just label them (slow pitch, Fast pich) and keep both copies

I have yet to break up 30 yrs of funk, box o chocoalte, parade demos. I just cant get myself to break em lol

30 yrs of funk has a lot of exclusive stuff on it! IMO.. some of the best quality tracks, You must seek it out!

Now since this is all for my own personal use. I brake up sets
Theres no telling where the files come from unless you play them and read the tags, because they are all in Flac

I will guess and say im about 75% sorted out

1976 Moonsound Sessions
1976 Sessions
1977 Instrumental Sessions (Husney's)
1977 Sound 80 Sessions

Right now i have 3 leaked copies of moonbeam levels
#1 . BFTP 2.O

#2 . mp3. The one with high treble , hiss
#3 . mp3. One that appears to be the same source as #2, but thats not tweaked with high treble

Its all a mater of taste and opionions which is better

Perhaps mine could be from a different source...but none really sound perfect, but these are all better than what was around.

Thanks in advance!

Me too I'm so pleased to finally have this.

My first exposure to this song was on a vinyl bootleg I got in about 1990 called the Purple Underground. The sound was awful on the record but I loved it.

I now have every song on that record in near perfect quality. Today I'm going to recreate that album.

.

Am I alone in believing that this track works even better [artificially] accelerated to 'Camille' speed vocals.

.

I would love also to hear P's recording of the elaborately (DX7/Fairlight) overdubbed/reworked ca. 1986 version that ended up on Sheena Easton's 1987 album (versus this late 1985 basic tracks demo).

lol No you are not alone. I've always had a fondness to the copy that was speedup

I'm totally down with helping compile a definitive list of best quality tracks. My layout is similar to FragileUndertow's, and I also can't bring myself to break up boots like Parade, so I keep two copies, one mixed into my dirs, and one intact.

This is crazy though, this is the first boot that I haven't been able to find, I never have any trouble but this time google is no help. People are talking about it over at **** but not sharing it. Real shame.

I could say a little bit more about sorting out tracks, but it be off topic
And at that i'm not sure it really help, because we probably have various set, albums that another person might not
Over all its a lot of work with no big pay off. It's easier to hord all the files than sort them out lol

A brief word on sorting. It's all about context and chronology for me.

I rarely keep the boots I get as they are (especially anthology-type ones that span periods and decades).

My way of organising is using the official albums as guidelines.

The original album stays as it is (unless it really is poor, as in the case of 3121, where it desperately needs awful tracks removing) and then I create separate folders to make 'Deluxe Editions' of my own. These will start with B-sides, alternate takes, outtakes. Formed into reasonably-sized, listenable 'albums'. Then following with any good sounding lives shows from the period of the respective album. Any tracks that are in poor sound get dumped. If they show up in good sound one day then great, they'll get added, but including them in poor sound is more frustrating than satisfying.

This way I have all the hours of relevant, material surrounding the album, giving a more complete picture, and organised into the right years to provide context. My Purple Rain 'Deluxe Edition' is now up to 11 volumes - in addition to the original album! All great-sounding material spanning outtakes and live shows. It's then a really immersive experience to dive into an album/period.

I do this for all the artists I like a lot, I guess I figure everyone does this... anyone else?

It appears i deleted 90% or more of the tracks from The Work series and replaced them with copies from Work It 2.0
I don't recall picking up Dabangs For You Demos, So im clueless about those
I also noticed im missing a few items mad
I may have broken a few sets already, as to what sets im not sure lol
I have other sets not listed that i havent boken up and wont *example : Exodus (Early Configuration) & Exodus V.2 *Asuming for now they better quality
It might be best to keep them as sets and delete the corresponding tracks from the Work It 2.0 series
Thats what i did with a few dozen or so tracks.

You can try starting a thread but it take some dedication and im not sure any one would join in
And personaly im not sure i have time to compare or sort out .. im guessing my 10 compolations.. maybe 15 cds worth of music sigh
Thinking about it make me duh Its work i tell ya lol

Versace Experience II was leaked literally right after it happened in 2006. I remastered it for my own pleasure, and had shared it with a few people at the time. I haven't listened to the one on this boot, they may have remastered it themselves or found a better source. Or possibly used my remaster, who knows.

I bought that fng pos album from 3rd eye girl. and AOA, and 3121 and every other fng half ass 3 good song album for many years.

This stuff is the reason I stick around as hearing that sample of moonbeam levels was incredible.
