there is a weird reaction where people take it personal if someone else dosn't like something? I wish Prince still had it. Maybe he does maybe he is just so good that I do not get it? But I do not think so. But it is not personal.

Agree. The twee generation gets sensitive with a quickness. Cultural criticism is now considered "hating" by the overly-earnest and easily butt-hurt.

Loved the glasses, the cool halloween vibe, vampire collar, scary hair etc.. donna's skeleton legs & ida's burka. I wish she wore a veil lol..

Did not enjoy Lianne's performance & i'm a big fan of hers. Hated her slick styling, people will think she's just another protegy!.

But the performance of another love would have stood alone, i love this song, the performance very cool. I could have lived without all that other jibberjabber.

& his fancy curtsy & lovely smile was lush!

The last couple pages of posts proves that the org is full of 40/50 year olds wanting Prince to be what he was 30 years ago. The press is raving about his SNL performance. They're wisely seeing it through the prism of today and not the past. Prince kicked royal ass as only he can. He also made more history that now only others can hope to match.

Clouds could've come off better, but it was fun to watch it live warts and all. I like the idea that he should have played that in full, and ANOTHERLOVE in full as well. After sooo many years of watching P kill it on every possible kind of stage, it was sort of fascinating to see what seemed more like a rehearsal on SNL. The only problem I have with 3rdeyeGirl(and I payed full price for both new albums by the way) is that they don't seem to bring anything else besides competency to the performances. Of course, SNL is difficult to do and I have not seen the girls live in concert so I'm probably talking out my azz -jm2c. Any Prince performance on national tv is a treat to watch even if we can't agree on the quality level. cool

Well, it wasn't all that... certainly not like his last SNL appearance, nor the Jimmy Fallon 'Screwdriver/Bambi' performance, which I can watch a thousand times.

.

I just think that it was too much... should've eliminated 'Clouds' from the set. Also, Prince's energy level was noticably low and he seemed a bit distracted. It happens... to all of us.

.

Quoting myself because after watching it a few times, I think my initial post was a bit harsh. Thank GOD he did the screams in 'AnotherLove'. Love how at the beginning of 'PectrumElectrum', he keeps trying to jack up his dual volume knobs, until he realizes (quickly) that he's not plugged in. Being the consummate artist and performer, he rectifies the situation just as quickly, and then proceeds to tear it up for the rest of the performance.

For fuck sake, people, quit bitching at each other and just talk about the SNL performance.

I hope he keeps Clouds on his set list. I want to hear what a proper, full version sounds like. Actually, I would love to hear most of the songs on AOA. But I'm not sure they fit with the 3EG vibe. They kill their own material, but I have a hard time imagining what they would sound like playing Way Back Home, U Know, or Time.

Why is it that people just can't take other people's opinions for what they are, whether they like them or not? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if it doesn't agree with yours, then tough! There are those that will like something and those that don't, that's just the way the world bounces, but if they don't happen to like something that you do or vice versa, that is no reason to put another person down, or call them names and talk trash to them. That's juvenile behavior. I was one of those Prince fans that loved "everything" about him, the man could do no wrong in my eyes, and God forbid if someone said something against him that I didn't like, I would defend and fight for him until the end, but you know what, I grew the hell up, and realized that Prince is human just like everyone else is, and he's not perfect, nor ever will be. Certain things I used to love about Prince, I no longer love like when I was a young teen listening to his music. Things change! Stop the foolishness and just take everyone's opinions for what they are......"their opinion" and leave it at that. If you agree with it, fine and if you don't, fine also, just don't put them down for it if it's not the same as yours.

No, not exactly true. True Prince fans, those that have been around from the start, and are still there, are the ones that I find will speak the truth where Prince is concerned, whether it be positive or negative. The fans that has been with him since he started are die hard fans, the ones that been through it all with Prince, even him treating them like crap a lot of the time, they have still stuck by him. That's fans of the old school, fans of today aren't like that at all. Fans of today are very fickle, loving one thing one day, and hating it the next. I've seen fans of certain entertainers of today, profess their love for them one day, and totally hate on them the next. It doesn't even take much to get them to turn on them. They move as quickly as the internet and their cell phones can take them, and are from one thing to the next in a blink of an eye. Prince fans from the old school are not like that. Some may not like everything he does, but they will stick by him until the end, and that's the truth. So those who do criticize him sometimes, are those who've known him and his music the longest. They're not just jumping on the bandwagon because it's "trending".....they've been on the bandwagon since it started and never got off.

I thought it was okay, not his best but okay.

I'm in the minority who thinks that he did a great job with Clouds. Idk. I always got the feeling that "Clouds" is a hard song to do live and I think Lianne and Prince pulled it off flawless. If either of them would have been one milisecond off singing the opening lyrics it would have been a disaster but they sang it well. I was proud that. The rest well... idk, it was okay. It was free a show and regardless Im happy to see Prince perform, good or bad and in between. biggrin

wow you lot make me laugh!. So, how easy would it have been to start the set with the 'Dearly Beloved' speech & then launch into Funk N Roll followed by raspberry beret/take me with u & end with the Lets go crazy guitar solo! - if he did..he would get slated!. Bart [who's posts I love dearly btw] compains alot about P having NO confidence in his new material hence the lack of live performances - this time ALL songs were new...yet Bart [AND others] complain that the songs are now sub-par!! eek

The bottom line is if P delivered say the MTV SOTT awards performance he would get slated here too i.e. he just cannot please everyone.

As for Alan Leeds, a man with huge gravitas I was sad to read his comments....fair enough he has like all of us a right to an opinion however I think it was mistimed, misjudged & self serving. Looking at the overall mass critical acclaim [both public & mass media] & above all P shooting back up the charts. I think P can easily deliver a big F.U. to Alan...& many others on here!

For the record I loved it, the band are still a work in progress & seem to be gelling well, P looked amazing & that voice just gets better, the song choices were balanced well & for me it was mission accomplished!

I thought Prince's performance was awesome!! Loved his entire set. The show itself sucked. The skits weren't funny and I was disappointed in Chris Rock's monologue.

Prince looked great and seemed to be enjoying himself. Too bad they couldn't get him to be in a skit.

I just watched the performance online, and I liked it, although I didn't think it was anything spectacular or anything. Prince was in good form physically, and I love to see him playing the guitar, but I'm with some of you guys about the afro, it was a mess like you all said. Maybe if he trimmed it some and evened it out, it may look better. Loved seeing Prince in the flats though, shows he's aging like all of us. biggrin However, I still think that 3rd EyeGirl is not the band for him, he could do a lot better. Well, that's my take on it.

The performance, song selection was great. However,
too short. It would have been nice to hear the full
three songs. Lol. I hate SNL. Stupid show, not funny
at all(it was in the past when Sandler, Murphy and the
rest were on, back in the day). I only watch when
one of my fav singers or actors is a guest.

This wasn't the best or worst performance, but does it matter? The only thing that matters is what Prince wants to show us. We can keep supporting him and his music, or not. But so much negativity on this site. If you want to jump off the purple ship, go for it. I'm just happy he put out some new music and played ALL NEW music... wow! I was so tired of hearing "the hits", even tho I still love them.

Do u, Prince! (hopefully that includes a tour)
