Well, it wasn't all that... certainly not like his last SNL appearance, nor the Jimmy Fallon 'Screwdriver/Bambi' performance, which I can watch a thousand times.

.

I just think that it was too much... should've eliminated 'Clouds' from the set. Also, Prince's energy level was noticably low and he seemed a bit distracted. It happens... to all of us.

.

Quoting myself because after watching it a few times, I think my initial post was a bit harsh. Thank GOD he did the screams in 'AnotherLove'. Love how at the beginning of 'PectrumElectrum', he keeps trying to jack up his dual volume knobs, until he realizes (quickly) that he's not plugged in. Being the consummate artist and performer, he rectifies the situation just as quickly, and then proceeds to tear it up for the rest of the performance.

[Edited 11/2/14 12:09pm]

I watched it again too and I like the performance better now.

I liked it the first time...but after a second viewing the whole thing seemed better. Not sure why. That didn't happen for the arsenio. That was terrible every time I saw it.

His vocals seemed to be at the wrong level, a little low...that didnt get better.

That was a wonderful thing to enjoy.

I absolutely loved the entire performance.

ThirdEye: Excellent all around!

Mr. Prince Nelson: Excellent all around! Loved the arpeggio on the keyboard and the finale... darling nikki/purple rain ending on the solo; as well as the song choices.

I have the same lava lamp and LOVE lava lamps.
I especially loved the magenta cobalt blue lightening; like the have at the Griffin Observatory "Tesla" room and the pendulum swinging third eye.

I absolutely would move to marz; since at present there IS a lot of space there and I am kind of tired of all the drama on this planet.

Finally; I do enjoy the naturalness of him... It's the first time in years he showed his eyes directly into the camera. Bravetto, Bravetti and better than Corn Spaghetti! Thank you Mr. Nelson... getting another lover this lifetime is like drilling my head to a floor trying to adore the varnish that needs stripped. I'm just praying that I find my way home. AMEN!

Don't know what is up with everyone hating on this I thought it was great. Wasn't too fussed about Clouds, which didn't compare to the album version but the rest was sizzling. cool

RIP sad

Yes it wasn't his gratest ever performance but what the hell is up with all the hate?!

I've been a fan for 10 years now and like to think I can see what's great and what's sub par when it comes to Prince's performances and to me that was a great set.

It's better than the Arsenio and Paisley Park performances earlier this year in that we were given entirely new material from the two albums (WHICH PEOPLE CONSTANTLY GRIPE ABOUT)

and it was clear that some thought and effort had been put into it with reharsals with all the quick turnarounds that occured with each song .

Far as I'm concerned, a great little set despite the little tehnical flaw at the start of Plectrum Electrum

He was as entertaining as any other 56 year old professional performer could ever hope to be.

The same thing could be said of the 28 year old Prince.. cool

Vanished which is what he does best. I loved the performance and I especially was glad to hear

new material after hearing the same songs sung over again. My only disappointment. Get rid of that fro.

I'd rather him shave his hair off, not necessarily bald, but give us something else please!

Also Miguel Dakota were you watching, I was hoping to see comment on your twitter or instragram

account. I just want him to be a Prince fan.

Incredibly stupid hair aside, I thought the performance was pretty tight. The mix sounded a little hollow on CLOUDS, which Prince appeared to be compensating for by the jazzy keyboard noodling. I feel like he could've strapped on another bass and really nailed the monster bass and drums groove. Everything else was great.

i thought they looked hot and sounded terrific. the guitar chord scandal didn't seem to phase prince at all. never missed a beat and it wasn't a big deal. the overall band mix sounded a little muddy to my ear - i attribute that to the musical environs as imo a lot of bands sound that way on SNL. great show, imo!

The 1989 performance of 'Electric Chair' on SNL was the shit, but this was fun too.

I was lucky enough to attend the SNL show
2nd time...My first was in 2006,and yet again in 2014!

The House Band was killer playing a few funk gems
-The Good Foot
-What Is Hip?
-Tighten Up

I loved the performance,I can also be objective;Medleys can be overwhelming for the causal audience...Or it was just what was needed to give snippets of each album to generate more sales. That's just what happened for iTunes.A0A is #1 again!

For me,it went by TOO FAST! Stretching out 'CLOUDS' (MY JAM!) would've felt like an aftershow vibe, giving everyone the chance to connect with his new material. Then end it with 'AnotherLove' Prince is in teacher-mode showcasing the talent around him.Where as in 2006 his FURY performance let the people know he's a ROCKSTAR!

He wasn't too pleased with his guitar not being plugged in either hence him not doing the final curtain at SNL.

Sidebar: Those who have no idea AOA I'd a concept album will just think he had on a blacula costume. Loved the Magpie gear on Donna and Lianne.

hey that's cool.........did u wait in line (stand-by)?

i remember last curtain call he kind of jumped off stage early so maybe i think it is just not his style, plus he must know that show has no talented members that he might actually want to meet or hang out with afterwards

Prince on SNL - I fully realize I'm opening up a can of worms here, will probably regret saying this tomorrow, but I'm so disappointed by someone who has so much more to offer than mixed agendas that get in the way of his usually brilliant music.
I love his lifelong devotion to promoting women in rock but the appearance on SNL proved only that a girl band can play clichés, the talented Lianne La Havas can be under-utilized and Prince is no Alice Smith. In trivializing Smith's song has Prince embraced Alice's right to cover one of HIS songs? File this appearance under trying to do too much and ending up not doing much at all. Many, many years ago Prince asked me why he wasn't taken more seriously as a musician and I suggested he leave the bells and whistles home and tour in jeans and turtleneck, placing all the focus on the music. He sarcastically replied, "what? And look like you?". Back then he was probably right and I was naïve. BUT two decades later and two decades older, I would suggest the same thing. Leave the costumes and cartoon logos to the kids and give the music the mature respect it deserves. A shame..........a master lowering the bar is never fun to watch."

Grumpy old man dissing his former boss. Kinda late to complain about Prince's theatricality, which has always been part of Prince, and always will be. Go watch Bruce Springsteen if you just wanna see a guy tour in blue jeans with no theatrics, Alan. *yawn* rolleyes

Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Donna's not really learned to do rhythm guitar parts to his music yet, so it sounds really light because they had Ida's bass low (which made sense for the rest of the set, but not Clouds). So yeah I think it would have added a different feel more akin to the album if he'd have been on rhythm guitar or on a second bass.

Change it one more time..

Yeah, not sure what all the hatin' was about. Perfectly fine performance - maybe not best song choices and think medley was not best way to go, but I thought they sounded great overall and he was as charasimatic as ever. Plenty of guitar stank face, which always makes me happy.

He just needs to sack the girls (quickly), cut his hair (quickly, I could see right through it tonight) and start playing the good shit. And by good shit I mean tracks of AOA!

Honestly, the girls are for show. It's obvious. He's worked with world class musicians all his life, but theres one issue there - most of them are male. He even said it himself! "A girl with a guitar is 10 times better than another silly band of boys".

He'll eventually come away from the 3rdeyegirl thing, but until then we just gotta wait it out.
