It's another one of those new Prince songs whose tune you can't really peg after multiple listens.

ok you are really having a hard time..

I feel the opposite, I like the bass (excellent bass playing), the drums (Linn and more), the piano, the sound is so organic... imo.

The vocals are touching me, the spoken part by LaHavas.. wow...

"Clouds" is by far the best thing in a very long time...

For those who say it's like any other bland boring R&B number. Good frigg, what do you listen to? I want some of it. The groove and bass line on this tune is so perfect Prince. Lianne sounds a brilliant addition to the song.

I don't love everything he's done recently, but this is by far my favourite R&B/pop number for years from Prince. I think it's ACE!

I listened to it about 3 or 4 times yesterday and I kept waking up with the bass line groove repeating in my head. Everyone's different I s'pose.

Well, yeah, it's the groove that's the catchy part. Some of the keyboard stuff towards the end too.

Very hyped for Plectrum Electrum, loved everything I've heard from that. I'm looking at Art Official Age as just a bonus album and not having any hopes for it. R&B Prince is not the Prince I like

My guess is that he just doesn't care too much about lyrics any more, in terms of crafting them. Probably recording the song as quickly as possible to capture the moment and the idea that sparked the inspiration for it. And the lyrics suffer because he's done with the song so quickly without room for honing and polishing it.

A monotonous plodder doused with nostalgia-seeking drum machines and retreaded lyrics. It's a telling sign that the most interesting thing that happens in the song is a voice-over informing Prince he's just woken up from stasis. Well, if this is the dreck he's going to turn out, quick, someone throw him back in the freezer.

I was wondering though, its give out as a download when you pre-order the album, I wondered if that counds towards sales for the Single in the first week like it does when albums drop? Potentially on the back of the Album pre-orders it could mean that the single climbs the charts, maybe not a top 10 but could push it up.

Ha, I was going to do that too as I always end up skipping the pre release songs for at tleast 6 months into owning an album. I cracked after 4 hours though.

Don't worry about the BCW comparison. This is WAAAAAYYYYY bettererer, I pwomise.

As for Plectrumelectrum. I feel like I'm gonna have a stroke when I finally get to hear WOW on my headphones! Awesome.

I get the feeling that there is too much ProTools going on (again) and the beat is too on the money and metronomic which is what computers do to music. It also sounds like it wants to carry on into a funky electro jam at the end with the computer synth bass becoming more prominent. Maybe the album version will be extended and go a bit nuts for a minute or 2.

Yeah, I have the same 'problem', I like to listen to it, but for the love of God I wouldn't be able to reporduce the chorus. Still, it has a nice little groove going on.

Exactly! This is why I say this is a POP song. Its a style of "singing" that has polluted the airwaves for years. And I'm sure someone will say "Oh, its just a variation of scatting, which P has done for years." Bullshit. Now, back to listening to FKA Twigs, some real future R&B.
