May as well start a thread for the new song, I like the song alot, but i dont think it will be a major hit unless warners uses some serious promotion for it. I like the music behind the song more than the lyrics. I think it sounds like breakfast can wait. I would give it a 7 out of 10

I love the song.

There is no such thing as a "hit song" any more, so don't worry about that.

What matters is that he released a song; you got it; and you like it.

Ahhhh....I see the "fuck R&B" brigade is alive and strong on the Org again...As a Prince fan THIS fascinates me...Apparently Prince's career started with Purple Rain....lol

All jokes aside, from the snippet "Clouds" is def. some funky shit...It sounds clean yet very sparse and a lot more focused than his previous return to the Linn drum....And the lyrics are a vast improvement from some of the more recent songs that have carried his "vintage" sound ...

Oh yeah....Prince is BLACK....Hopefully people understand that the man's base has always been R&B...This was his "sound" before all the PR fans jumped on board and when he went a bit avant garde with Parade...I dig all his musical chambers during his prime years...I like funky Prince and weird Prince...

But on the real. Some of you folks on the Org need to slow down with the "it's only R&B" bullshit...

It def. moves my "rockist" needle....That sideeye.....

[Edited 8/25/14 6:18am]

I see the Prince apologists are out too! This isn't R&B, this is a pop song, pure and simple. This song is in no way representative of what he did pre-Purple Rain, at all, not even a little. Not only did Prince do A LOT of non-R&B before Purple Rain, he did various different things including rock, new-wave, disco, etc.

A Prince apologist on a Prince site...Imagine that?...lol

But really, this is far from "pop"...Pop is "Raspberry Beret"...This is "R&B" Prince...

I got some Q-Tips for u, homie...

I dont have any tattoos. I'm not particularly PROUD of it. Indifferent to that fact mostly, in regards to my own skin. Not against tattoos in general at all...I love a lot of peoples tattoo work. I just haven't found something I'm certain I would want on my body my whole life. My kids names for sure once I have some. Otherwise?...I suppose i wear my indecisiveness on my sleeves?

Coming from The Breakdown this is mixed really nicely. Not overly compressed at all. It's organic and punchy in just the right way. Lots of subtlety in there too for repeated listens. Love the sustained guitar in the second chorus.

As always, he's just a master at self harmonizing and layering his vocals. Can't even pick out half of the harmonies in there.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

I don't like how he stacks (is that the right word?) the vocals. I know it has been part of his signature sound since the 90's, but I still don't like it.

Nice, breezy R & B. I love the sound of the drums/Linn. The bass is as funky as you want it to be. I like the lyrics. They're seductive, yet also provide some interesting social commentary, which I think many people relate to: The self-obsessed age, where every experience is documented and exhibited.

I like how an acoustic guitar makes an appearance towards the end in the background as Lianne starts talking, then doubled with the bass stabs, and finally playing a rhythm guitar line in the outro.

Lianne's part is very cool, and a bit of a curve ball. I love when she says, "Hot," after the guitar solo.

I like the way he ends the song, too. Very Prince.

I see the comparisons to Breakfast Can Wait. The choruses sound very similar. I like this one better, though.

It's not a "hit," no matter how much promo it gets, but it doesn't need to be. I'm curious to hear the rest.

PS - I wanted to wake up this morning and find that the cover was just a bad dream. But alas, it's real. Damn.

"Stacks" is fine.

Yeah, that's what I hope he would have avoided doing with this song. Or maybe just used a little bit "dirtier" tone of voice for the chorus. This way the end result is a bit tame for Prince, although that's fine for the 55+ year old version of him.

There's no mistaking this for anything other than a track where the lyrics are as rich as the music. I'm very pleased with it overall.

As much as I'd really like to appreciate the song, I find it quite mediocre... The lyrics have some merit, the groove is alright (and I do like the Linn sound), but there isn't much of a melody. Sorry, not that exciting. P

It's not one of Prince's best songs but overall it's one of the better songs - I've heard in this "new" Prince era 2010-2014. The lyrics are far better than some of the material he's been releasing as of lately and it's one of those songs that grows on you, each time you listen to it. Good song tho, although not a hit - but who cares about that.

Ok I've listened to it about 5 times now with good headphones. I strongly disagree with whoever it was to wrote that any old body could write or produce this. The bass/rhythm guitar parts and then the later acoustic add in, and the transitions and breakdowns are things only experienced musicians could make sound so simple. He makes the song sound simple, but its actually got a lot going on in it (which is the same that I found with the Rita Ora track he did). And I agree with Murph's statement that the lyrics are a big improvement over some of the stuff he's released in the last 5 years. I'm not really an R&B listener but I'd give this a 7/10 stars.

Change it one more time..

It's a good song, we'll see if it's great after a while.

Half the hardcore Prince fans are waiting for a song Prince will never record, because in order for it to be great, we'd have to wake up in 1984 and all their cool friends would like it.

That's it, really! It's not currently cool to be into Prince.

Actually, the whole "it's not currently cool to be into Prince" thing resides in the bubble of the Org...In the real world Prince steps onstage and gets a standing ovation at an awards show without even performing...In the real world he sells out gigs in hours...In the real world his much younger musical peers revere the man...In the real world he still gets headlines online for posting a meme aboutLil Mo talking slick about him...In the real world he sold more tickets than Beyonce (the biggest "current" star on the planet) at the Essence Festival...

Trust, the Org will make you think everyone hates Prince....lol

Don't fall for the bitching bullshit...

Prince gets respect but he's not selling lots of records, so you can't say "hey, what do you think of Prince's new album?" Until you can do that again, some people will never dare to like a new Prince song, they need the validation first.

People have not been buying his music because he is an independent artist and over 50. Since this is on major it will get some promotion but he is operating in youth driven industry. It is not easy to deal with age factor
