Wow, cool. What are clouds, the puff of smoke from weed or drugs, or something?

clouds?

probably like icloud, a hard drive out in space?

information stored in clouds so to speak?

I was thinking weed.. but then my mind drifted to chem-trails (he may not be worried about those anymore though)..

Change it one more time..

I've listened to it 4 times now. It's a funky little jam. But like much of his output in the last 10 years, it's forgettable. There's no memorable hook or melody in this song....it just kind of goes nowhere. Remember when Prince would release a single and it was so fresh and ear-catchingly crazy good or strange? I love Prince - always will be thankful to him for his music - but he's been spinning his wheels releasing the same kinds of generic Prince cuts over and over and over. Every album was an EVENT that I looked forward to, and still do, but it's been one lackluster release after another...he's still got it live, I just wish he'd be more inventive in the studio.

Mearly making a point about people who are saying his lyrics are not always the best or dont sound from the heart, they are probabaly more forced than something he may have experienced etc... in recent years.

.

He's on his 33rd album (more if you count some of the others) plus the 100's/maybe 1000's in the vault, cant be easy coming up woth things that are fresh and sound meaningful.

.

He wont sing about alot of stuff these days or avoids certain things because of his beliefs or whatever, only so much you can do I guess.

.

Im happy what ever way he gets music out he can be forgiven for the fact that sometimes what he puts out isnt always spot on.

It's Lianne La Havas. She is definitely worth checking out. Her debut album is one of the best discs of 2012 in my book. http://www.liannelahavas.com/

Thanks... I will check it out. Loved her vocal on that...very strong

Not expecting too much from these albums based on what was already released.

CLOUDS continues Prince's recent tendencies. Writing about how to turn on women (he gets creepier and creepier the older he gets. I much prefer when he takes amore mature approach like in "Better With Time" or when hes simple 70s easy listening mode) and his critical view of "how people live today". While I mostly agree with him, (I'm only ten years younger than he is) he cant help but sound like an out of touch old man on most of these tracks. Not sure what a 50+ year old is suposed to write about but dont think this will be any sort of "hit". Hits are for kids anyway. Let the Lordes and Bruno Marses have their moment now and just give us some interesting music, catchy melodies and tell us personal and unique stories instead of trying to do mid-tempo R&B pop or "faux" rock.

Post-50 yearold prince is most interesting when he doesnt try as hard to sound contemporary (eg I love the 80s nostaliga he used in 20ten or just totally personal songs like Reflection or just MAF freak outs like PFUNK). Hope that there are the usual good nuggets buried in these two albums (disappionted that Live Out Loud is not on here. Thats a pretty good track) but these two so far dont seem to be cohesive sets like LotusFlower and 20Ten were and its looks like we're headed to another 3121 with AOA and something resembling Chaos and Disorder on the Plectum set, which is Prince "rock" but not the good kind.

[Edited 8/26/14 7:37am]

Interesting take. I have criticized him often on these very same issues.... I don't think it applies to Clouds. I related to the song...have been married for 15 years and I'm 45 years old. The lyrics struck a cord with me..... As my wife and I are definitely not in the honeymoon stage anymore and there is often tension. However, I know that often a kiss on her cheek or me holding her hand can often defuse tense situations. I think you might be projecting a bit with your take. Think of being in a relationship rather than it being overtly sexual which IMO it clearly is not. It speaks to intimacy.

I do agree that so much of this new music sounds teeny bopper. Pretezelbodylogic is so much fun.... Give me a break. So I get what you are saying. Clouds spoke differently to me. Which is rare these days

In this day and age, that's a pretty controversial line. A very decent percentage of Prince's audience have tattoos, and many of them have PRINCE tattoos.

My favourite line in a song ever! Finally someone understands my struggle as a tattoo hater in this ink living world!

Yep! I can't stand tattoos.

Without reading through everyone else's take on it,

I just listened to it for the first time.

It's sounds very Prince-throwback. (like his 'fro?)

Musicianship-Top!

It's an ear catcher, for sure!

"...rub it 'awnah' back" is definately the hook-line lol

The guest appearance by Lianne LaHavas is cool, but a tick too long.

(I take that back, i's a sucker for the brit acc.!)

I like it alot!

Now I'll go and listen to A&B for the second time and see what all the fuss is about...

Prost!

Loving this song. I agree with what others have said in that it doesn't have a memorable hook, however some of his best work hasn't. It takes multiple listens to dig down into the beauty of the production and there are some real easter eggs in there that punch me right in the soul and I couldnt be happier. Brilliant overall and thankfully challenging.

I'm loving this. So many great aspects to the song.

The squelchy fat bass
The guitar solo
Lianne Lahavas spoken part.

Just love this and cannot wait for the album.

So far

Clouds 9
The Breakdown 9
Breakfast Can Wait 9.

It's looking like this is going to be a premier league Prince album.

I'm loving the swampy, guttural thump of the bass. It reminds me of Dorothy Parker where it sounds like the strings are coming loose.

That thump thumps thumps that thump your tummy.

Seriously, I don't understand how someone that likes Prince's contribution to funk music don't get that song. He's clearly attempting a futuristic sounding reload of classic sound, so that's why it sounds the way it does and not like an ATWIAD outtake.

It'll be intersting to see how well the P solo album fares with the P & 3rdEyeGirl album. P solo will inevitably draw more of the casual fans and sell more. I'm looking forward to both, in a BIG way. But, I'm more intrigued by the 3rdEyeGirl album more than the P solo, so far. Not that I'm saying the P solo (Clouds, Breakfast etc.) doesn't float my boat. Both the Breakdown and Clouds are encouraging and welcome additions to P's cannon and bode well for the vibe of the whole piece of work.

Roll on release date for a proper listen of both albums and a true persepctive and evaluation of each release, particlularly after some time, to live with and digest both releases.

Lookong forward to see how WB promote and market these across the globe, and how well recieved they both are. Not long to find out.

these are the days of wild........
