What happened to his album deal with EPIC RECORDS?

I thought the new material would still be with Epic, while he licensed his ancient music through Warner Bros.

Let's hope P follows this release with a video real soon. With the right promotion this track could appeal to a wider audience and raise his profile this year alongside the plans for the PR remaster. What (another) wasted opportunity otherwise

So P relasing a song that isn't utterly abysmal on first listen is now reason for yelling "best song ever"? Really? Nobody noticed the rather pathetic lyrics? And the sound is just awful, with the pathetic sound effects and the brickwalled mastering.

That sounds like positivity and progress to me biggrin

Don't think the lyrics are personal at all. He just makes them sound that way.

The wooh is on the one!

Interesting choice for a single. I love Prince most when he allows himself to be emotionally vulnerable. I never liked bragging and bosting. I think that's why Im liking it so much. On first listen I didn't hear why everyone liked it, but after I sat and read between the lines on the lyrics I connected with it.

Change it one more time..

this is a quality song but the production is pretty bad .. why cant he play a real piano? .. doesn't he have one? .. smukfest version is still the best .. this sounds a bit tame in comparison and on a song like this it doesnt really need all the extra harmonies .. one crazy good passionate vocal performance would have been fine .. and I agree .. some nice guitar jamming on the end would have been great .. would love to hear a soundboard of this live .. the drums and bass are both pretty boring .. the only thing that holds this together is that it is indeed a good song with good lyrics good melody .. but the way he put it together takes away instead of adds .. as is i would give it a B - .. a soundboard of smuckfest version would get an A+ in my book .. and that is saying something since I have hated almost everything since WB days .. the brickwalling is attrocious tho ..

Prince "The Breakdown"

Listen 2 me closely as the story unfolds

This could be the saddest story ever been told

I use 2 want the house with the biggest pool

Reminiscing now, I just feel like a fool

I keep breaking me down, down, down

Keep breaking me down, down, down

Keep breaking me down, down, down

Keep breaking me down, down, down

I use 2 throw the party every New Year's Eve

1st 1 intoxicated, last 1 2 leave

Waking up in places that U would never believe

Give me back the time, U can keep the memories

U keep breaking me down, down, down

U keep breaking me down, down, down

U keep breaking me down, down, down

U keep breaking me down, down, down

Every book I read said that I would need somebody like U

Whenever I was sorry, so sorry 4 the things I use 2 do

A journal from the notes I use 2 go thru ... 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

R behind me now all because of U!

U keep breaking me down, down, down

(U keep breaking me, U keep breaking me down!)

U keep breaking me down, down, down

(I don't wanna, wanna, wanna go ... no, no, no, no, no!)

U keep breaking me down, down, down

(Don't wanna go down, down, down, down, down)

(Down, down, down) (repeat)

Baby, baby

See, there's a door that U can walk thru where there use 2 be a wall

I don't care, it's cool as long as U catch me, baby

Catch me when I fall (If there's ever a fall)

Closer 2 the breakdown

Closer we get

Closer we get

Closer we get

Closer we get 2 the breakdown

ok heard it biggrin

so how is this marketed? as a prince song, as a 3EG song or a Prince & 3EG song?

interesting. wonder what this means for the album to come, is it still Plectrum?

/

this sounds like the dakota version from ages ago, so i'm wondering if it's still the

prince solo version. it sure sounds like it.

/

anyway, so glad this is being released, for a minute there i thought it was going

into the vault lol

/

now put it up on itunes in europe so we can actually buy a copy smile

I've only heard it on a 3.70mb 128kbps stream, but yeah great song ruined by terrible mastering. The distortion is horrendous. Hope it's better on the real deal, from what i've read it isn't though. What a shame. neutral

Dearest Bartholomew, you know someone will always claim it's the "best song ever" but your "isn't utterly abysmal on first listen"...now that's high praise! razz lol

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Definitely an improvement - can someone with some remix mojo just take out thoes ridiculous laser zaps though? And also, resurrect Clare Fishcher while you're at it.

Agreed. It's a brilliant song but the production dampens its effect. It sounded better live - the Montreux version for instance - with a more minimal instrumentation. I hope he does another version - a bit like Wow/The Unexpected - a version on a Prince CD and a Prince and 3rdEyeGirl version on the 3rd Eye Girl CD - if there is indeed, two sets coming. It's a great song though and I still really like it.

I'm guessing the all-caps means it's Plectrum. I forgot FALLINLOVE2NITE was all caps, too. Hmm... hmmm
