with all these deluxe editions coming out in multiple forms ... some single, double or box sets .. i would like to see a super deluxe edition that includes a digital vault pass for each era .. as in you can hit up a vault site that lets you access rehearsals and videos and general stuff that wb may be hesitant to include for the masses because it is not quite good quality .. but prince has it in his vault .. could have extra edits beyond the 12 inches or even some live bootlegs that are just too many to pile into a physical package ..

This is great news, and I expect a lot, and hope to get a lot.... BUT...with Prince and Warners working on something TOGETHER....BIG CHANCE THEY CAN SCREW THIS UP. I mainly fear over compressed tracks where the music is distorted, as most of his music since 2000 is a bit overly loud and distorted. Of course, he could really screw the tracks up too:

Let's Pretend We're Mormons

Ok...it's obvious my sense of humor is still sleeping.

Purple Rain getting remastered is kind of good news, even though it's 20 years too long in coming. I honestly am not that interested in purchasing it unless I hear for sure that Prince resisted the urge to censor the music as he has done repeatedly to his catalog material over the last 15 years or so. NPGMusicClub, live, no matter what... the music has been censored. If it turns out that the album and outtakes are in the form fans have long asked for, I'll be pleased. Again, though I think there is no chance of that happening. Too bad we are not getting a reunited Revolution album and tour to support the reissues, but I guess that makes too much sense for Prince to ever allow. I'm sure he's getting off on throwing it back in their faces. "Donna?" "Yes Hannah" "Is the water warm enough". "Yes Hannah". I'm imagining 3rdeyegirl featuring Prince promoting a reissued Prince and The Revolution album by infusing the old tracks live with their goofy version of the sounds popular on radio and my excitement level for all things Prince hits zero. Not to mention Prince wearing that crooked afro wig... sigh.. I need more than a deal for reissues to care about Prince music in 2014. This deal includes what, from what we've heard so far, seems like the all time low in terms of the quality of new music for Prince's career. I fear WB told Prince whatever he needed to hear to get the deal done, "Yeah we hear 3 or 4 number 1 hits on your new album", and then, based on Prince's past behavior with blaming the labels when his record don't sell, this thing will end with more lawsuits than remastered releases.

Are you on crack? Put the pipe down before you post. The truth is P got what he wanted out of WB and we the fans are going to get we want. You are just being negative to be negative.

I'm being honest and realistic. Not only is he screwing The Revolution out of this news, but he just bailed on agreements he had with one or possibly two other labels. I woud not be surprised at all, if that got messy. Then how long before he becomes dissatisfied with WB, which is not at all the same powernouse label it was in the 1980's. It's essentially a mom and pop operation at this point and it'sno guarantee that they can sell Prince's old music into the hundreds of millions of dollars that Prince is likely expecting. Prince being Prince, as soon as he doesn't get his way on something, he quits. Remember the Rave deal with Clive Davis when he sat on the sidelines and watched the record tank? Do you honestly think WB has a strong legal and binding contract with Prince that forces him to release all the original material in it's original form? And promote it? Is Purple Rain the movie finally getting a real remaster? Will we finally get that infamous "barn scene" from the WDC video? If so then the excitement is justified, but the announcement reads as though this agreement is sort of an at-will arrangement. In that case you only have to go back to the Kobalt announcement from not even a year ago, lol, to understand why I'm skeptical that we will actually get a no bullshit remaster of the good stuff.

New Music from his old catalogue is the key.

As mentioned earlier - the vinyl plays just fine.

I still don't get the big shit about a remaster - it's still the same music right?

If he throws in proper uncut outtakes i.e. full studio "Father's song" and full piano "Purple Rain" and as mentioned, deleted scenes fron the film, then great... but he/WB won't.

And as far as the Parade deluxe - it's all about the Yokohama dvd...sigh.

Realistically, these remasters are not aimed at fans on here - I wager, any "unreleased" material will already be in our "vaults" by way of bootlegs.

Prince's music is great - this endless teasing manipulation though is tired and thin.

Make peace with who you are Prince and embrace where you came from - and provide a true legacy, before it is too late.

When Prince dies - who is he leaving all the vault to? It's not like he has a Lisa Marie, or am I ignorant?

His catalogue will end up being re-hashed and remastered again and again with new packaging over 10 great discs for £49.99 on QVC.

Like Billy said - "What the hell is wrong with you Kid?...Man, What a fucking waste!"

"It's a lucky break he's around, they ought to notice him a little more - although he's not selling records like Def Leppard" - Randy Newman on Prince Portrait

I believe that I would still feel this way too, with anybody other than WB being involved. Because after the way Prince left the last time around, I'm almost certain that this endeavor will be under their very tight scrutiny. Prince is going to get what he wants as he always seems to do - no matter what - but this time, I think he's actually going to have to come correct.

I take it that this is just as much about the WB owned vault material. And I seem to recall unreleased songs have a longer time before being eligible for reversion than do released songs.

Also remember the announcements specifically said UNHEARD songs. Not Unreleased.

the sad bit: digital remastering as opposed to true remastering. Led Zeppelin has done the process at least 3 time (a new set is coming out soon which will be the 4th--each album will have extra tracks, live or alternate versions of songs) I hope the Prince albums get the same treatment.

I'm not so sure. If it sold 3 million worldwide I think Prince would be pissed. I'm sure he wants more. He can promote it with 3EG, but why bother? Bring back The Revolution.

that is what I take from what was said in the press releases. He may have had premission from WB for the ctystal ball?

But there was something in one of the stories: like "Including the songs recorded duing his time with WB."

some of that may not even exist. you know they lost some of the film! they had to use print coopies... or something like that (this is from the PR commentary). And many movies do that--put stuff in the trailer that is not in the final cut.

Vannormal

I don't think Prince is going to fuck things up with Warners fro now on.

He so desperately needs them right now. And concerning his age, there isn't much (time) to lose anymore. If Prince likes to remain prolific, and he also knows he isn't that great a 'hits' writer anymore, he better stays cool with Warners now. And learn how to shut the fuck up when needed. biggrin wink

The deal probably is very $$$-wise important for both. Warners is never ever going to give back to Prince what they collected through old contracts without any lucrative (even better) deal.

And I'm sure Prince has been negotiating this thing for more than a year ! He not only needs the money from the 30 years aniversary of Purple Rain think about it), but also the world wide attention that will be given to it. That's Prince's main goal. He needs to be a star again. It hurts him so bad. I'm sure he cries at night in his little purple satin sheets from 1984 !

I only 'hope', that he will NOT rerecord these epic songs, just because of the lyrics and his stupid believes in 2014.
3rd Eye Girl is actually the perfect band if you considder it, to rerecord these tracks (no I don't need this thanks, but we can't look in the purple one's head, don't we?!). Unfortunately I think. But they can do it if Prince feels the goddamnJezus urge to do so... (sic)
I so hope that Prince's fucked up jehova shit stays out of this creative deal and output. And that he does not put one new stinky jehova finger on 'Darling Nikki'... If he does, I personally will fuck him up in the butt, dry ! Yep I'm gay. biggrin

If he plays this on a higher level, he should go for a 'one time big gig' with his old budeis from 'The Revolution', getting them back together aloen will be worth many news spreads in the world. Or, he can 'mix' them on stage with his new band - which is more likely. But then comes the question, where does 'The Revolution' begin and end as a collective band ? Will Eric Leeds or Susanah be part of it ?

I do hope he will clean up the video's of that era too. But we can't ask to much. The boxset eventually will be a letdown for most fans. The outtakes and unreleased material will be too little probably. And besides a poster and some postcards, we will nog get much more Im affraid.
But one can never be too optimistic at the same time, right ?

5 Years ago, I bought the cd rerelease of Purple Rain, with the DVD, with not much moe than the official première party... some extra minutes of footage with Sheila E and some forgotten 80's characters babling to the camera, with too much screaming teenage girls in the crowd outside the theatre... And thencame Prince, he was fast and furious, but hardly to be seen. It absolutely was a shame for the fans. (Who has it by the way?)

Let's hope the idea of a new album and a rerelease of and old one at the same time will work well in the charts. Cause that is the only thing Prince is soooo looking forward to right now. Otherwise he wouldn't have released a single like 'Fallinlove2nite', which is to compare with anything on PR, pure crap, but fun. It only tells the fact that Prince is weeping in a corner to get back on the big scene with the big playas, and he's willing to sacrafice a lot I think. He's no underground artist. Never been. His ego is to demanding for that. biggrin And I'm affraid all will be a little bit too late and too old... But i give him the full benifit of the doubt. smile I remained a fan ever since, to see the dawn for gods sake. wink

Prince, makes this one big. It's your utter last chance. Don't fuck it up, you crazy little unreliable purple fuck !!! biggrin Or you know the concequences, you sqeeky little... klqs*$^ùdfqsdm !!!

Very exciting, EXCELLENT news!!

New album(s), remastered classics, deluxe editions, unreleased vault material...

The only thing that could spoil this is unrealistic speculation, expectation and anticipation.

excited

What will be the standards for the "remasters"? Will we get sonic fidelity that "wows" audiophiles or will we get louder masters that squash frequencies?

?

Will we get original presentations that include material that is not PC and certainly not JW or will get "Special Edition New Masters" that won't offend the masses but will offend those of us that don't appreciate revisionist history?

?

Will the unreleased material consist of tracks that fans know and love from bootlegs finally in a quality on a par with the released material or will we get altered or overdubbed tracks that leave us preferring the bootleg releases?

?

Will the packaging be something special that we can show off and display or will it be a plastic hockey puck that has to be replaced becuase it will scratch the discs?

?

I am neither expecting or predicting the worst case scenarios, rather, I'm merely hesitant to expect or predict this will result in the all inclusive perfect package that so many on here are imagining.

I'm the only one that can set myself up to be disappointed, so, I'm going to try to avoid that pitfall and hope for the best but expect the worse. We'll probably get something in the middle...

wink

All that said, if we don't get the full length Computer Blue that so many have mentioned in perfect quality, I will be crushed. And when we get to SOTT, I NEED a perfect quality Rebirth Of The Flesh!!!

It definitely is exciting and I also hope we get something with great quality versions of boots and unheard stuff. But even if we only get great remasters I'd still be excited. The key word here though is great. I'm very fearful considering all the recent releases. Remasters with distortion due to clipping will not be purchased by me, it would be completely unacceptable. I'd have a perfectly mastered 256k MP3 than an over amplified lossless version.

The Breakdown does not ease my worries in this regard, please get it right Prince!

Prince became difficult and stopped promoting Rave when A&R didn't like the album. At the time there were stories written that part of why Clive got fired was the deal he cut for Rave with Prince. But even if we take Rave out of the equation Prince doesn't tend to play well with any of his business partners. Think of the various internet music clubs. Prince gets his check then he walks away. This WB announcement sounds like he has options to back out at any time. In that case we won't get anything but DJ Rashida remixes, censored tracks, live renditions featuring Maceo and Doug E. Fresh and unreleased material that no one ever requested ie TC Ellis outtakes. Or possibly stuff he already put out on Crystal Ball or The Vault. Electric Intercourse and the real Extra Loveable would be too much like right. He's stacked the deck against himself with this 3EG whack-fest, and when the project doesn't blow up in full he's going to quit WB again possibly without ever releasing a remastered PR.
