I think that was intentional and that Prince was making a larger point there about the duality and hypocricy of peace, war, murder and religion. Specifically those who kill in God's name, etc.

That's a good example - I always thought that line to be completely incongruous and vulgar...it totally flies in the face of the gentle mood that had been created.

"Count The Days" is a song about retaliation and Prince wanting to get rid of his enemies. It's not meant to be gentle. The style of the music and the content of the lyrics are done in the same manner as many older songs that deal with the same theme (think of songs like "Hey Joe").

It's not a "love" or "church" ballad that Prince spoils just because he doesn't have class. You don't have to like it if the content of the lyrics is too much, of course.

& whilst we are on te subject, Queen came up with arguably one of the top 5 guitar hooks EVER recorded in the song Princes of the Universe. Then there is all that 'People talk about me' shit in the middle...Brian May should have stuck to that hook throughout..Highlander theme..amazing but ruined by bullshit.

Another great hook ruined is So Seductive by G-Unit. Lloyd banks can't rap. ruined it.
