Errmmm... No.
It certainly has the potential to be a top 40 hit, but it takes more than that. Not only would he have to promote it, but, some payola would probably also be required to make it a "hit". I don't see him playing that game.

My sentiments exactly on the bolded part. As much as I love the 3 girls in the band as super-talented musicians, I was hoping they were just going to be the 2013 version of Prince's "New Power Trio" band. Now that it's been revealed that they are a side project, I feel like my "bubble has been burst."
As a rule, I've never been into any of the side projects or proteges much, even though one could reasonably argue that all of it is essentially "Prince music." My exceptions to the rule have been Tamar (whose Milk and Honey album is, in my opinion, the strongest album by an associated artist that I've heard) and Andy Allo. Other than that, if Prince isn't front and center on vocals and music, I tend to tune it out pretty quickly. (Hell, I'm still pretty clueless even about The Time, outside of their hits. I have all their albums but haven't really listened to any of them yet. )
I feel almost criminal saying this, since I usually always support Prince without question, but I just can't bring myself to purchase this new song. I don't really like it that much; it sounds to me like an uncool cousin of "So Far, So Pleased." Part of the resistance I'm feeling toward it is due to the fact that it wasn't AT ALL what I expected it to be. Then again, I didn't expect "That Girl Thang" to be a mellow acoustic track, but the fact that it was, was actually a very pleasant surprise for me.
I'll still support Prince, and I'll support the 3rd Eye Girl band. I just hope that the band's first single isn't an indication of what the majority of their work is going to sound like. I hope the songs are eclectic, and not just pop. Donna is a rock guitarist, after all. I wanna hear the band do rock, pop, blues, ballads, and everything in between. They all have the chops for it, and Prince is the perfect mentor to learn from about blending -- and even defying -- conventional musical genres. https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

Thank you, Prince and everyone involved in putting this song together. It came along at the right time for me, some things in my life right now are making me sad,but this gave me some inspiration. I especially like the reference to the "Phoenix" rising from the fire, I live in Phoenix, AZ. LOL  Keep the uplifting songs coming, they are healing for the soul.

I love the song , I love the lyrics, I love the concept, I love the Music, .....but, I don't like the way Her voice is outside of the song, that may sound crazy but to me it's like her voice was put on top or outside the finished song, just my opinion [Edited 2/22/13 22:53pm] Pray Daily!!!!! Okay, I'm a bit confused here. I'm reading everyone "high fiving" and "hugging" and thanking this EyeJester guy, but for what? For passing on what was given to him? If it wasn't him, it would've been some other "Prince can do no wrong" fan. Did he help record or master this record?
Prince's people contacted him from seeing him gush all over him, no matter how bad the record is. And because Prince's wants everyone to fawn over him, he picked him to post this one thing on the org (and wherever else). Anyone could've posted videos saying how much they LOVE Prince over and over and he would've picked one of them. It may have been a "cool" experience for him, but what are you guys licking his balls for?
On top of this, Eye, are you even getting paid for "doing the work"?
As far as the song itself, standard boring fare. Nothing exciting AT ALL. Same little guitar licks and lines he's been having in his music for years now (earliest I can remember off the top of my head would be "Guitar").

If Prince is planning to build a side project out of this 3rd Eye Girl band and release an album on these girls, I'm interested. "Screwdriver" and "Live Out Loud" are decent rock songs that have pedestrian songwriting. I don't question their musicianship but the songwriting has to tighten up for hardcore and casual fans to take this project seriously. I like the LOL song, but the "higher ground and build you up" lines are cliche. There certainly is some novelty in this band and if Prince pushes it, I will support it.
Lastly, I'm glad he is soliciting band members for lyrics but I would like to know why did he pick Liv. Andy Allo in 2012 and now 3rd Eye Girl. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Gotta be honest, I was a little disappointed by this track. I bought it thinking I'd hear Prince singing. I must be the only who didn't realize it wasn't Prince on vocals LOL (no pun intended). I'm really only interested in the songs he's singing. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

3 listens and I think it's ok. Does sound like a Taylor Swift song. It terms of his pop rock songs It's very low down on the list at the minute. A little worrying that Prince maybe is taking inspiration from a 21 year old girl.

3rdEyeGirl is Prince Music
Boni Boyer led the unreleased 1988 song the Line. if someone wanted to talk about that song we wouldn't put it in the Associates Artists section, because it's Prince. (We don't know if that would be a song released led by Prince)
same with Our Destiny, the studio (unreleased) is led by Lisa Coleman (she prob wrote it) but Prince led it live on his 6.7.1984 show. That would still be a (Prince & the Revolution) topic
Wendy led I Wonder U, just because someone in a current band leads a song wouldn't make it an Associate Artist topic
we don't know yet what this song is until it's available for download, it's obviously a Prince piece, this is not a protege project(unless someone knows something else), this is Prince and his 3rd Eye Girl band, you can hear Prince singing in the chorus. If we find out Prince had nothing to do with this song, it could be moved to the Associate Artist section definately

#4 Hannah Ford, Donna Grantis, & Ida Nielson are in the studio everyday recording new material with PRINCE. He is the primary songwriter but not the primary guitarist. PRINCE is every day gaining more confidence in Donna's talent and actually lets her take a bulk of the solos on the project. They have recorded about 14 songs and "Live Out Loud" will be released as soon as the promotional clip for it is finished. Check 3rdEyeGirl.com soon for that.
But yes there are are a few threads that are directly about the website(s) that will be moved... Thanks 4 the reminder
so I can start a thread about Sheila e's first three albums in The Prince music section and it will not be moved?

Liv Warfield wrote the lyrics - I wonder if the song was originally called LIV out loud?
She also has her own single out called Freedom that I absolutely love (you can buy that one on iTunes or CD Baby) - it has a very different feel to this one though. I'd be interested to hear a version of Live Out Loud with her on vocals, with more intensity behind the lyrics.
That's not to say I don't like this version - I think it has the potential to be a mainstream hit - it's just that I could imagine a song like this, with such a powerful message, being done quite differently.
Perhaps there are more versions to come?

Same little guitar licks and lines he's been having in his music for years now (earliest I can remember off the top of my head would be "Guitar"). It's amazing really, you're bashing jester for being predictably positive, yet you're every bit as predictable but at the opposite end of the spectrum. Besides, if you'd paid more attention, you'd know that not all of jester's reviews are gushing. What people like yourself are not understanding is that the young prince fan has probably been drawn to him from his recent output and not the 80's stellar material, so of course their opinion on the new stuff is going to differ from someone who hopped on the purple train back in the day. I personally hopped on during diamonds and pearls, an album that gets critically panned by many, but it is special for me as it is where I started the journey. Ok, after going back to earlier albums I realise that it isn't his best album, but I didn't listen to it 3 times a day for 6 months for nothing. It's ok for you to not like anything prince does, hell, it's alright to write negative post after negative post about it, but please just allow the younger generation fans to get excited about the things they're hearing, without having to pour cold water on their happiness and positivity.

I don't know... this morning when I listened to this a couple of times, I was pretty sure I didn't like it. However, all day long I've had the hook stuck in my head. And it's been a long time since I've had that happen with a Prince song so quickly.
So maybe I do like it.
I definitely do like the fadey guitar bits.

When I bought this yesterday I turned it off less than a minute in. Like someone else said already, the guitar sounds similar to 'Guitar' which to me just sounds like a kid that picked up a guitar yesterday.
I listened to it twice this morning. Still nothing great. Even though there's snow on the ground I do feel like dusting down the surfboard, rollerskating down to the beach in my favourite bikini and spending shitloads on Tampax. And I'm a fella.
Not one for me really but keep em coming.

Leave off Jester! Don't be so bitter and twisted. Just because he was entrusted this song there's no need to take it out on him!
I think it was a good decision for him to get it...because he is a humble and a genuine fan who is not arrogant nor sycophantic (ass-kissing). He has a genuine love and respect for Prince's music. He has been creating those insightful and interesting videos for months now and he does not overreact if someone happens to disagree with a point he has made....he is respectful.
That rules out about 80% of the other 'lovers' on here....who claim knowledge of Prince's workings but who are very boastful and arrogant and if they had been given this gift it would have made them worse....they know who they are.
By contrast, Jester is still being humble and polite and has not let this go to his head, which proves to us all the right decision was made to bring him on board. Here's hoping he gets a free trip to Paisley Park or something, good on him.

We do not need gifts. We do not need $0.88 songs or $1.77 videos. We just want a decent album and a decent tour with not too many hits.
But the trend showing this year (the multiple outlets, the `playful` vagueness, the lack of coherence, the lack of sharing a plan) points in a direction that I do not like. I've invested relatively plentiful in Prince in the past but I probably won't do that too much this year unless I convinced to do otherwise. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I like the music, which is written by Prince.
However, I don't particularly appreciate the lyrics written by Liv Warfield. They are clunky and embarassing in places and detract from my enjoyment of the song.
I've loved and purchased all the other 3rdeyegirl content, but I'll be avoiding this. It's an average pop/rock song that seems aimed at the teen market. Prince could, and has been, involved in much better.
I hope the rest of the 3rdeyegirl project (there are reportedly 14 songs already recorded) is more like 'Screwdriver' and less like 'LOL'.

We do need gifts. You speak for yourself mate, I can always do with gifts. We do need cheap songs. Better quality is up for debate but cheap we do need. We all want a decent album and tour too.
I think he's just having fun with it. Let's be honest, he can't really win whatever he does. You can't please everyone. Especially us old grumpys. Most here have invested heavily too with both time and money but like you I'm not investing much these days. Unless I'm convinced otherwise.
I like that he's given Jester a buzz he'll never forget too. Nice touch. Doesn't matter to me why he did it.

That is an absurd generalisation. Want some cheap rubbish from [insertyourfavoritefinancialenemyhere]?
The gifts are of the cheap quality. That is implied.
Thanks!
I don't know Jester but he had his experience. I think I am over mine a few years too many. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I don't know Jester either. 3eyes does now though.
I've spent more than a few pence on Albums that have had one or two tracks I like on. I can't complain about how he's knocking these out now. I'd rather have a 'proper album' on Vinyl, CD etc. but if it aint there I can't have it. None of the recent stuff has been my cup of tea but that's the way it's been for a while with P. A few bits here and there.
You aint over it. Go and put on a favourite jam. I bet you'll be all ears for this 'Beautiful Experience' he's planning too. (Subject to purple rearrangements, no pictures please, etc.. etc..)

LIVE OUT LOUD!
[Edited 2/22/13 22:24pm] I had actually asked the OP if the LGBT live out loud campaign had anything to do with this song, seeing as he was the one who got the "scoop". I didn't get a response however. It seems to be a coincidence to me but ya never know. It seems like an older persons version of Uptown, Sexuality or Calhoun Square, which have similar creeds.
