Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Yeah, actually, now that you mention it. I'm still surprised that this is so popular here. He usually gets taken to task for making by-the-numbers songs these days. How is this one any different? Don't get me wrong though; that isn't why I dislike the song. I just find it bland and generic. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I don´t know why other people here like it so much but as far as I´m concerned, I like it because it is better than his other current releases. I can´t listen to RnR Love Affair and Screwdriver, and I´m really wouldn´t consider myself as a "naysayer" here on the org, in fact I think there are still moments of greatness on most of Prince´s more recent albums, but those two songs I mentioned above are absolutely not my cup of tea. The lyrics and the music do nothing for me and I couldn´t even watch the Screwdriver "movie" without a weird feeling of embarrassment because that´s how corny and cheesy I find it. Seriously, I can´t even WATCH that video, let alone download it and pay money for it ( yes, I tried to watch it on Youtube, and no, it´s not about the money, I´ve probably spent hundreds and thousands on Prince´s music and concerts over the years but my days of being a completist for the sake of being a completist are over).
Breakfast Can Wait sounds much lighter and less "forced" than most of his other more current releases, it has that light air of songs like "A 1000 Hugs and Kisses" or other lesser known little gems that aren´t too deep or technically interesting but sweet little songs nevertheless.
It´s an alright song, and it is, in my opinion, much better and easier to relate to than a lot of other newer songs. And that´s what it boils down to for me.....being able to relate to lyrics, no bragging or boasting like in Mr.Goodnight or similar songs, no lyrics that make me cringe like The One U Want 2 C or There´ll Never Be Another Like Me or Everybody Loves Me, and no cryptic stuff. It´s just a nice little innocent song that people can relate to, and the sexual innuendo is neither gross nor innapropriate like in some songs past his conversion to the JWs where he beats around the bush instead of saying what he wants to say. I´d rather listen to a song without failed innuendo instead of beating around the bush or gross lyrics like when he sung about "wet circles around the toy" on TRC. As long as he doesn´t change his old lyrics, I can live without the use of profanity, and this song is quite ok in that department.
I like his simple, heartfelt songs. I like recent songs like Walk In The Sand or Somewhere Here On Earth. This one doesn´t even come close to the greatness of songs like Ballad of Dorothy Parker but I understand why people compare the two ( or its derivative "What Do U Want Me 2 Do") . So, on the one hand I like it for what it is and I think it´s a step in the right direction but on the other hand I think it is a sad day when a song that sounds like an outtake from the early 00s can trigger so much hope in the fan community that his next releases might be good again.
But hey, his Grammys appearance was VERY cool and classy, so there´s still hope that this year will bring us some good music. Not that one thing really has anything to do with the other but I´m more positive this year, don´t know why. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Nice song, but it's so close to Come On that it might as well be a remix of it. Having said that, I'm not a big fan of Come On and I actually like most of BCW better.
The "Smurf" voice at the end ruins the song. It's not even close to being Camille. For most of the song, he's Mr. Smooth. At the end, he's like a kid who got a digital voice distorter for Christmas.

in my top 2 Prince songs of this decade.
it's a grower for me.
first listen: it's a 20ten style funk-light track but a little bit better than funky songs on that album. the smurf voice is too harsh/jarring. lyrics are generic.
third listen: you know what, this song actually has pretty clever lyrics. and the music is pretty funky
fifth listen: the chorus/refrain is cool: -- finally my eyes are open, i dreamed about you all night long --
now i even like the smurf voice. it's playful.

I'm really diggin' this track. I keep playing it over and over, much like I've done with the duet with Andy Allo, "U Will Be". It's simple, yet catchy.

Best song from him in while. It sounds inspired and not forced like RNR and Screwdriver. The writing is much better.

Well I hope that blurb helps sales.
Too bad it doesn't tell where to get it. Most folks will go to iTunes and not understand why its not there to sell.

Just reading the latest Rolling Stone mag and "breakfast can wait" made it onto list of tracks to listen.. Positive review. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

That's a step up, RS gave "Screwdriver" 3 out of 5 and called it a "teaser."

Funny. I would gladly buy this if it was $1.29 or 99 cents at iTunes. (Screwdriver over at iT costs 99 cents.)
So in a way this is a big deal, and P is sticking it to iTunes in that regard.
This song reminds me of do me baby

Is anybody else out there finding themselves singing 2 themselves "Breakfast can wait" when they get up in the morning?! Ha ha ha, I think Prince is tryna get us all 2 lose a bit of weight! and..."It's working" 2 quote Love4oneanother! " I Know"

Great song! My favorite so far from the recent batch of tunes. The chipmunk cameo threw me a little, but otherwise I love it. This one and "Boyfirend" remind me of the NPGMC era tracks, which is probably why I like them so much. "Breakfast Can Wait" definitely has a "Jukebox With a Heartbeat" vibe going on. I'm glad he's still cranking out stuff like this.....I miss that music club era. Hi-yo Silver, it's The Bone Ranger!

Admittedly it's taken a few listens, but I now put this up there with his best, I absolutely love it. It was also mojo magazines top song they're listening to this month. Fantastic.

I dig the humor and layered vocs...interesting that he refers to himself as a "Black man." The consciousness is better late than ever. No justice, No peace
