The bass is on point smile, the song is very reminiscent of Dorothy Parker from Sign ''O'' the Times album with a little bit of 1999 Era Lady Cab Driver style bass.

First new Prince single i have liekd for a long time.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

To put it short: I love this song.

I want to make dirty, sensual love in the morning to someone with this tune on. However, my only worry right now is whether the quirky high-pitched voice in the end will ruin her orgasm or not.

I mean, after listening to it for thirty times I have got used to it, so I could shoot my load and enjoy it no problem, but this might be more difficult to take for unexpecting candidates...

shrug

I've been on the Lesson for 10 years. I don't ever remember Quest saying this. It may not be his favourite, but that's not the same thing.

Gosh I don't like being the negative orger.

One word review. Cheap.

Another one word review. Lazy.

Makes me wonder who was programing his beats back in the day. Because that dude's been missing since 88. This is some sorry-ass drum programing.

Uhhh, do you have any idea how much effort it takes to multi-track all those vocal parts? How long it takes to do them in different ways in different parts of the song and make them all sound good?

And what drum programming are you listening to? lol

It is very nice to have a new Prince song where "normal people" can actually relate to the lyrics! No theocratic orders or vague political statements, just an honest simple song about being horny in the morning. biggrin

Formula song in the same vein as Sticky Like Glue, Mr. Goodnight, Incense and Candles and all those trite, forgettable tunes where Prince sounds bored and alienated from himself. Never have I seen such a radical regression in an artist's output; Prince is getting shallower as he gets older. Seriously, more attention should be paid to this. How often is it that a man in his early 20's has more insights in his music (including his pop and dance tracks) than anything he records in his 50's?

The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

You are a bit lonely on that one. After what we've heard lately (amazing SD and RNR remixes, the live cuts), talking about regression is plain stupid.

However much effort to reach for that button I supposed, like the button that chipmunk-izes towards the end.

And what drum programming are you listening to? lol

The one running throughout the song that sounds like Casio wouldn't include in their presets becasue to them "it sounds cheap".

All joking aside, this sounds a little more radio friendly than that dopey preschool kid's song about fucking like a screwdriver. This one can do really well with teenagers who listen to Adult Contemporary.

His Billboard Chart category format-bending is pretty innovative, Ill give him that.

I have to say. Having heard the new track I can confirm that I think prince has lost it totally. Not saying the new song is crap. It is no rubbish. But again it sounds plastic. Not recorded properly and is too commercial radio friendly for Prince. I spoke a while ago about what he needs to do and I think he simply needs to stop believing what he is producing his amazing. Take some time away, go on tour, go and visit some cultures and learn there music. Come back with tribal drums, or different sounds. Write about something interesting. Breakfast can wait I have listened to a few times and now ignoring it again. It is basically a cross between, ‘1000 hugs and kisses’ and ‘juke box with a heartbeat’ Sorry guys

Congratulations on being able to afford to actually buy the song yourself. I'm glad you managed to find the 0.88 cents necessary.

I cannot confirm that 'Prince has lost it totally'. I can confirm that you sent me a message begging me to send you Prince's new songs for free.

Kind of puts your comments here in a different perspective, doesn't it?

I think the song is likeable. I'd give it maybe as much as 7 out of 10 stars.

1. The music and vibe are awesome.

2. The theme/concept is nothing new and he does nothing unique, fresh or memorable with this theme of wanting sex in the morning.

3. The lyrics are mediocre. However, I do like that he's narrating. There's some figurative language. There's not much depth and noting really to decipher, though.

4. I think this is arranged in a nice, if mediocre, pop package.

He's coasting here; but I do think it's a return to something. He was able to immerse himself in this concept and seemed much less self-conscious and contrived, which is good. The song is nice. Making a nice pop song is still like breathing for him.

P.S. I really do wish folks wouldn't care it to Dorothy Parker. My blood ran cold when I read that. It's so undeserved.

P.P.S. Personally, I like "Screwdriver" way better than this.

I think this is true for Screwdriver, not so much for Breakfast can wait. Screwdriver, especially the live version, is unoriginal. It could have been written and performed by just about any amateur rock group. The extended part of the remix saves it somehow. Breakfast can wait at least has Prince's signature sound and has a pretty sophisticated arrangement.

The wooh is on the one!

It's giving me a "NewPowerSoul" vibe. Not sure why, but the vocals remind me of that era. Digging it more with each listen. It's a grower(that's what she said).
