So much for free websites content. But I give him mad, huge, GIGANTIC props for circumventing iTunes. Coolest thing he's done in years, imo.

It is "Incense & Candles" with "What Do U Want Me To Do", and a sprinkle of "Come On" and "Jukebox With A Heart". I kinda like it, but it doesn't really go anywhere and plods on a bit.
Don't feel the Smurf voice much at all, way too loud and not a particularly funky sounding soundeffect.
I say it is a 7/10.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Cerebus LOVES all the harmonizing he's doing with himself on this track. It's all over the place, done in several different ways. For me, that can take an average Prince track and turn in into something completely different. For whatever reason, he doesn't do this nearly as much as he used to. The Camille on helium voice, I'm not completely sure how I feel about that yet. At least there isn't a lot of it.
I'm definitely feeling the drum beat, too. And I'm SOOOO happy that all the keyboard parts are mixed low enough that they don't kill the vibe of the song.
I'll say this - it sounds like he's actually TRYING with this one.

love the vibe of this song, reminds me of the Madrid 2 Chicago songs we got during the NPGMC... Love to hear more of this "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

Brendan said: "Might want to pray for me. Might need to congregate." LOL. Brilliant. He's going in deep. Someone done loosened his bowels. By the time this helium-flecked voice crawls through it's perhaps the only logical way left to metaphor this full-on-diaper funk as it crab walks its way across silk sheets. Damn. Lol. Can't nobody cook it like U girl. No ma'am

I agree with this - I love the harmonizing layered vocals and drum beat.
If I had to be picky I'd have preferred him use his 'normal' Camille vox instead of this Smurf/Chipmunk one, even tho its hilarious. The lyrics he's singing in this voice(call your job, I'm in charge now, might need to congregate..etc) lose the effect a bit because of the vox IMO. He could have even used the Camille-ish vox he used on Dance 4 Me and Ol Skool Company.
As I say thats just me being picky - saying all that I still like it and its well worth £0.58

I love this track...bought them all so I have everything officially; I like it because it's a bit of a newwave with a tinge of 90s, a bit like Wasted kisses but more drum orientated.

Yes that's what I was trying to think of
I love the track and honestly I love the Smurf voice.
I think it's cause the first time I listened I knew they were coming.
It's just a good old sexy groove you could make an album of tracks in the same vein but that doesn't take away anything from it.
Maybe he should do a smoothed out compilation album (wait he doesn't do albums well let's just call it a mixtape then)

He also uses the voice in same page throughout I think...just small hints of it

Awesome song.
Classic, funky Prince. A very successful update of Prince's sound circa 'Sign 'O' Times'. In my opinion, 'Breakfast Can Wait' certainly wouldn't sound out of place on that album.
I'd love to hear more like this. A very promising, playful direction.

This song is cool, it reminds me of another song, which I can't remember now. I figure the mood: in a white bungalow house, close to the sea, breeze entering and sweeping the light colored veils in the house: Breeze caresses the bodies laid onto the tropical dark wood bed; night was hot, then in the softness and coolness of the morning fresh air awakens the couple gentle..
We make our own way to heaven everyday

I see him following her out of bed into the bathroom, to her closet/dressing room, through the house into and around the kitchen where he gets it first .

Completely agree. For people who are saying he treading old ground I would argue listen again and more closely. Maybe there are echoes of earlier work, but the musicianship here is MUCH MORE developed. The arrangements are more complex, the mix is superb, each instrument has its own place, the playing is not tripping on each other, there is effective use of silence, with complex parts being played. Listen with headphones and it sounds like a beautiful painting. On each listen I attempt to follow a different part--drums, or bass, or vocals, or keys, and it's a different journey each time. It's "congregate." Rhymes with "wait" and goes with "pray." Not exactly the kind of "congregating" the church has in mind... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Love it. Reminds me of 'Sticky Like Glue', another sweaty, rauncy popping little number from 20Ten (Both tracks too short) I like the "Smurf tone". Breakfast Can Wait is, currently, my all time favourite Prince tune (RNR Remix 7 a close 2nd) Can someone explain how Prince is producing the Smurf tone....Is it pitch,, Digitally or otherwise??

I'm glad there's a site available with tracks for sale, and I bought them all. However, I don't think he's "circumventing" iTunes - 25% of the tracks for sale at 3rdeyegirl.com are available for sale on iTunes. He's just got a small storefront with alternative tracks for sale on his own.
My biggest complaint is that with iTunes or amazon, you know what you're getting - i.e. in iTunes it's a 256 kbps mp4 (which sounds better than an 320 kpbs mp3), and you can hear snippets of songs before buying. On Prince's site, you don't know what you're getting, and it runs the gamut. One song is a lossless wav, a couple are 320 kpbs mp3s and one is an ultracrappy 160 kbps mp3. Buy the music and you find out after the fact that they're all encoded differently and the sound quality varies.
I think 3rdeyegirl.com is going to be a "fringe" project for Prince, releasing material there and giving it a "bootleg" feel per the promos that were out around the first of the year. No promises, no fees, here are a few songs, buy them if you want and no guarantees. Which is fine by me. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife.
