How come you waited so long?
That gig on the 20th was the last time I saw him live. We had front row tier seats by the piano. Here's a blurry snap from after the blues on The One in that pink suit. Got some good little bits of video but only on a phone.

When he visited Austria in 1987 I stayed in Southamerica ,then approx. since the beginning of the 90ies I completely lost him until the release of the ONA Live album, which was introduced to me by a friend ( and orger) and then I took the next chance when he came to Europe in 2007.Saw another 8 shows since then.

I wasn’t old enough to see Prince until the 2001 Hit-N-Run tour. It was in a college basketball arena (Patriot Center) so the acoustics were crap, but the show was excellent otherwise. That was the last tour before the Witnesses convinced Prince to stop singing Darling Nicki and humping the dancers, so at least I got that.

I have been a fan for 25+ years, but hadn't seen him until last year. Either I didn't have the money, or was in a wedding, or something.
I heard on the Org about the LA ocncerts. I live in Colordao. I went on Ticket Master on a Tuesday and just wanted to SEE the prices and location of seats. The seats that came up were really good and I got excited knowing I had the money. Thinking the concert was for the following week, I decided to be impulsive and bought 2 tickets. I saw the airliine tickets were not too bad. All I had to do was explain to hubby that we were headed to LA in a week.
Printed the tix and they were for the opening night on THURSDAY. Couldn't even afford plan tickets for that soon. Call my husband and told him we were both taking the next 2 days off, and we were road tripping it to CA and seeing Prince.
He thought I was kidding. Best Trip. Ever.
Peace. Love. Prince | |

Wanted to go see Prince really bad in the 80s, but was too broke and couldn't get to his shows where I lived... So, 2010-2011 were not only my first shows, but my son's also. Great experiences for both of us. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I had just moved to Los Angeles in 1981, when a month or two later I learned that Prince would be performing at Flippers. Being new to the city, I didn't know where Santa Monica Blvd. & La Cienega was (...which is where Flippers was located at the time), nor did I know how to get there by public transportation. I had an older brother who had also just moved to the LA area a few years prior, so I asked him how to get there. I explained to my brother how awesome a performer Prince was, that I had just seen him the year before opening for Rick James on his "Fire It Up" tour, and suggested to my brother that he should even come along with me to Flippers to see Prince perform live. I rarely, if ever, asked my brother for anything, and it was apparent that I really wanted to go see Prince again in concert, as I was practically pleading with my brother to come along and show me the way. My brother's response to me? "I'm not taking you to go see that FAGGOT!"
Nearly 20 years later, my brother finally apologized and admitted to me that he had made a mistake. He said that he should have gone with me to see Prince at Flippers, and that if he had; he would have had the opportunity to have seen a legend in the making.
My only response to him was: "...yeah well, I told you".
Prince's next LA area concert subsequent to his Flippers appearance was at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1982. I knew my way around town by that time, the album "Controversy" had just dropped about 3 months prior, and there was no way in Hell I was missing THAT Prince concert!

Great story! But u never explained his per4mance there. It was a rumor going around at the time that Prince didn't like per4rming in La after he was booed off stage at the Rolling Stones opening. It maybe true. Because he rarely came to La to per4rm back then & when he did it was very short sets. Fast 4ward 30 years later he pe4rms here more than any other state... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.
