March 30, 1993. Act One in in Toronto.

I'd been a fan for about four years at that point, but this was his first trip to Toronto since. I was 14 and BEGGGGED my mom to get tickets. She did, and took my sister and I and a friend of hers. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. First time I ever "She's Always In My Hair", and I desperately tried to find it for months afterward. Thank goodness for the "The Hits/The B-Sides"!

Purple Rain tour, Rosemont Horizon (Chicago), December 1984.

I wore black leather pants, a purple lambswool and angora sweater, and purple suede and snakeskin boots (which I still have).

It rained cats and dogs on the drive down from Madison, our seats sucked, and we got lost after the show. But we had a blast.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

More or less the same here, except it was August 2nd and I was only 16.

had the wembley gigs on bootleg and i think 28th was the best but maybe thats cos i attach my own memories to them. was there a wembley 88 gig that was anything other than stunning. i remember reading how the 25th was crammed with supermodels in the front couple of rows by prince's request. yeah i'm getting old mate, but i'm in good company!! wink haha

I 'had' all the Lovesexy English leg on boots, as well as most of the tour. I got my tapes of the 25th less than a week after the show. Haven't heard all of em for a while but from memory, I liked the 28th just a lil bit more than the others. Some of the 29th was good too but the quality of the recording wasn't all that.

There were a load of tidy rippers about on the 25th. I didn't wanna get out of the queue as there were a few done up like 'Apples' in all the gear and I was dribbling. One of my mates saw the turd that is Lenny Hen (I can't bring myself to type his name) in the gig and a few other c listers were there.

I still get a buzz off the memories.

You wont get away with that, you're getting old, same as the rest of us. biggrin Lovesexy's the one ya know, til his day is done.

For those that went to the 1999 tour or PRain. You're very very lucky people.

You're getting old too though. razz

My first Prince gigs were D&P at Earls Court London. Two there, then Celtic Park in Scotland on the same tour. Good gigs.

Fun looking through all the memories here. rgsince81 - Flippers Skating Rink, really? Wow. Lovesexy seems to have been epic. I'm sure 1999 and PR were phenomenal too.

Me, Act I, Universal Amphitheatre.

Because of this thread, I went and looked up the setlist, and I'm surprised older songs were played! I don't remember any, but apparently "Let's Go Crazy" and "1999" were performed. I don't even remember "Purple Rain"... oh actually, I kind of remember that one vaguely now. My recollection these past two decades was that it was all only the Symbol album, and unknowns, and that it was weird. And there was symbol shaped lavender confetti strewn all about, and purple carpets to the entrances, and curtains and stuff everywhere.

Universal is also where I first became aware of Prince (besides the fuzzy childhood awareness of him in the 80s), I was about 15, it was 1991 MTV music awards and my brother was working concessions, and there was a big to-do about Prince and his crazy butt-less pants!

Purple Rain Tour-1985-The Forum, Inglewood, CA (opening night)

Elizabeth Taylor was front and center in the audience. I was in the nosebleed seats, stage left. Unfortunately, I was seated in front of two girls who basically screamed like banshees the whole night. Remember at this point of his career, his popularity was near Beatles level, so I understood the hysteria. Experiencing it personally, was something different lol. The papers the next day mentioned the fact that Prince pulled a diva act when Prince showed up at Liz Taylor's house the next day, pissing her off lol. Something do with his bodyguards, I don't rememebr all the details, but I'm sure she bitched to Michael Jackson about him lol

He didn't get on the kick of not playing old stuff until a few years later, and obviously has flipped on that point too...since it seems that's all he plays anymore.
