True. Not to go off topic, while I was listening to the Crystal Ball cd version of 'So Dark', the track '2morrow' started playing and I forgot how much I love that track too. Great instrumentation and use of his falsetto voice. Another nice track is 'One of your Tears'. Lots of good songs in his catalogue, but yes enjoying this current version of 'Dark'.

U right "2morrow" which is kinda like a remix of TMBGITW is another jazzy slow jam by Prince that doesn't get much credit. He has so many hidden gems that are better than the ones that get played on the radio. Its sad that the diehards is the only ones that know about them...

I think Andy should be given credit for him bringing out these rare trax. She is really inspiring him.Especially given her some of his best funk jams out the vault 4 her new album......

I know. I was surprised when I listened to the CB version a little while ago, why I didn't appreciate that track 'So Dark' as much when I first bought the Crystal Ball package. I have to go back in my collection and re-listen to some of those gems. 'Man of War' is another one he sort of injected that bluesy sound in, not exactly like a spiritual church vibe, but bluesy. I'm really liking both of these versions of 'Dark' though. That's the kind of sound that makes you feel the soul of a song.

Love this track, his voice is perfection. Lets hope he plays this on Jimmy Kimmel. Althought its more likely that he will play RNR Love Affair which is fine too.

Those songs are not new. He's constantly digging in the past instead of releasing new and exciting music.

I wouldn't say he's constantly digging in his own musical past, I think that's one of the 1st biggest complaints

He is constantly digging in the past and doing covers of other peoples music, too much to my liking

Ludiwg, digging his own past is better than being scared of releasing new music, cause he thinks the music is in turnmoil at the moment.

I kinda had a dream that he wants to be known as a live performer, so I think his time for great studio albums are over. It's alright with me, as long as he doesn't do cover songs, but the older he gets the more covers he will do as it seems.

Prince I will always miss and love U.

ok, I can't access my downloads at the moment, But I know I have this one performed along with Bambi SexyM etc I recall him saying in the beginning about having the lights turned out for this one

iirc he also did a great long version of it at 'stars n bars' in monaco back in 1994

where he did the entire song, then sang bits of i hate u over the beat and played

a great little guitar solo at the end of it as he brought it back into 'dark'.

cool

[Edited 10/18/12 7:55am]

I have that version too nod

I should have clarified what I meant, I mean .. apart from the eras the tracks belong to, we haven't ever heard him acknowledge this song at all & I personally thought he never would either

Especially due to the difficult period it's from & for him to bring it back to the extent that he has? It's too good to be true bow

I literally can't stop listening to it, I think it's quickly becoming my fave version of this song so far

These rehearsal tracks keep getting better & better I swear fallinluv

I don't think so. I get the feeling that he can't write such great music anymore, and that's why he relies on his past glory.

He can. He sure hasn't lost his ability to write badass stuff. He just doesn't want anymore, and he doesn't care what anybody thinks. As he haid he doesn't have to worry anymore, in other words he thinks "Everybody can kiss my ass" lol

Arranging of this sort is slowly becoming a lost art.

Only in the mainstream, but I know what you mean. The new Donald Fagen is full of this stuff. Lots of locals can do it to it.

@moderators: Why was the earlier posted thread closed and then not even combined with this one? Do I have to do it by myself?

Anyone know the name? Not bad for a soulful slow rnb song...Didn't like the ' so dark' vocals of the ladies at the end though.

Indeed the "So dark" background vocals are not a good addition to the song. Besides I'd say the groove gets a little bit tired during the solo.

So cool! I remember making the Come album thread about a month ago and I think I listed this as one of my favorites...and I think there was a lot of admiration for this song. It's so smooth. Also I LOVE to listen to artists studio versions / demos or in Prince's case I guess rehearsals because I just like when they give directions as they continue to do what they do. Like a sneak peek in the creative process ya know. I have some of Michaels and its very cool, and I've been listening to P's as well.

This was a really fun surprise to 'log on' too. Thanks, OP/Prince/Andy and whoever else was involved.

Woww! You know I had a feeling I'd get my hands on something new from Prince today! I was walking home and the thought popped into my head to visit the org to see if theres a new rehearsal or something up and of course there is! The performance is great and his vocals are great, but the mix just seems too cluttered :S. It just sounds too busy and like the mix was too loud! Anyone agree with me there?

GOOD GOD!!!!! This is one of my favorite songs by Prince! My favorite version is "So Dark" from Crystal Ball. This version is also beautiful. It's sweet and lazy. Love it! It sounds like he is preparing this for a performance. So exciting!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if Andy influences him to bring this kind of music to us FOR FREE, I'll deal with her.
