Something happen between P and Sheila E?

She stated on twitter that she will not be performing with Prince in Chicago. "why....because Prince". And the she responded to someone who said I know you wouldn't say anything bad about Prince "it's all about truth and RESPECT".

Anyone hear anything????

Yes something happened. Sheila was truly the last bridge to his past, the last former associate who was still working with him and that bridge is now burned too.

Of course Sheila will never publicly say. I've heard it was a $$ issue of some kind. Isn't that what it always seems to be eventually with Prince? Rosie, Eric, Levi, Tony and on and on and on.

Because you and Prince were best friends once is the reason you know this about him? pooptoast
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

It went down during rehearsals for the Welcome 2 America shows in LA from what I remember. Someone posted about it here, who was at the rehearsal. I can't remember if they could hear what said, but Sheila stormed out and didn't play at any of the rest of the gigs. Anybody else remember?

They were booked to open the San Jose shows, but at the last minute found out they had been double-booked with Larry Graham, who ended up opening. "We had to turn around and come home," he says. "We were looking forward to it, because we have a real good fan base in San Jose."

I think this is the saddest break up in music history. They have such incredible chemistry...you can't manufacture the kind of chemistry they have. I don't know what happened, but it happened during the L.A. shows. It was at that time that she tweeted her announcement that she would no longer be performing with Prince anymore. It was a sad day.

She said she wouldn't be at anymore prince shows during that tour.

She had her own tour in Europe.

She did not indicate forever.

From Sheila's perspective, I think it's pretty permanent. Now, who knows what will happen if he comes back on his knees? I'm praying that he has the presence of mind to do that if need be. What they have on stage can't be duplicated. I saw them together on stage for 12/17/10 and 12/18/10. What impressed me the most was how easy it was between them. They really love each other's gifts and they play so well off of each other. And like someone already said, she was the one person in his history that he kept around. Whatever he did, it hurt her. Her tweets about him around that time showed a broken heart--like a trust had been breached.

Okay, but now what's the excuse? She's still saying that she just can't do it. "because Prince..." That sounds like she can't do it because of her relationship with him, but she respects herself and him enough not to put their business out in Tweeterville. And like I said, I'm the first one that doesn't want to believe that, but she definitely seemed like she was too through with him.

Means she probably wasn't asked to do the gig.

Since this is a charity gig and he will probably promoting Larry and Andy's CD's along with said charity, that adding sheila to the mix was not necessary.

Just a guess.

It does sound like that was the case.

I was at both San Jose shows - GCS had exactly the same opening act both nights. Not unusual, of course, but, given how Prince operates in his concerts, it was not ideal. What would have been perfect is GCS one night and the E Family the next.

That said, it's all heresay from my perspective (not wanting to speak for you, metallicjigolo, of course), but that version of events does make sense.

I am so grateful to have seen them perform together while I was over in California, as it might have been the last time, at least for a while.

I feel for Sheila, as she has to comment on it every time Prince announces a tour, because she gets so many fans asking if she'll be joining him.

Hopefully, for both of their sakes, they can get things patched up.

In the meantime, they are both doing their thing independently and are both outstanding artists in their own right. Hopefully everyone can eventually leave it alone and, in particular, stop asking Sheila if she'll be joining Prince on tour with every new announcement.

If things change in the future, no doubt she'll let us know.

Some of the posts have been laughable! The saddest breakup in music history? What is sad is what transpired between Rev. Run and Darryl Simmons from RUN-DMC. Their best friend Jam Master Jay was brutally murdered in cold blood in Queens, NY on October 30, 2002 and still cannot reconcile their differences. It's unfortunate that Prince and Sheila are estranged but it's tragic.

Actually after 1990 it was a long break, they stayed in touch just like he did with many people in his pre 1990's camp including Lisa, Morris, Wendy, Bobby Z etc but it really wasn't until the Musicology period that he reunited with Sheila on stage along with Lisa Coleman & Wendy Melvoin, after the Planet Earth period we didn't see him with L & W anymore and we saw Sheila with him on special occasions and guesting on the Welcome 2 tour in Europe (he sent her home early -pre-Italy too) then had her back during the start of the states tours) When Bobby Z had the heart attack there was talk and rumor of possibly doing some stuff with some of the Revolution members and Bobby playing Purple Rain when he was better

You're right...when I say that she is the only one he kept around, I meant to say that she was by far the most visible for the most years.
