Go ahead and report me. There's nothing I said that's inappropriate or incorrect. And it's also a lot tamer then calling someone a "Liar" or "Blind"
Like a little kid, you love to dish it out but can't take it.
And for someone who "doesn't want to keep talking" to me, you sure post back fast.
Once again, I like the way that you poke ZERO holes in anything I've said, but instead start talking about how I should eat more ice cream and get laid more often. Do you think that's clever? Do you think anyone laughed? Do you think anyone who read this thread front to back thinks you're doing anything but shifting the focus away from the fact that a large portion of the people on this site (a site full of people who want to love Prince's new work SOOOO much) still gave 20ten 1 star or less? You're just butt hurt because a big part of the HARD CORE prince heads on this site see 20ten for what it is: Turd City. And by you giving it such a high score you've brought your own judgement into question in a lot of these same peoples eyes.

people shouldn't even attack each other like that if it was a "parade" discussion.
what do i care if someone says "future soul song" is the worst piece of this they have ever heard? it doesn't diminish my own love for it one tiny bit.
the only thing i'd like to see more on threads like these is indeed like someone else said too, a reason for people's hatred toward songs.
i mean, damn, if people actually "hate" a song that's some harsh shit. it would be nice to know why. what do you dislike to much? it doesn't have to be a 1000 word essay. but just state what irks you. the music, the lyrics, the lack of melody, the mixing, the production, the backing singers, what?

I thought it was OK. I don't think the BET appearance did the album any favors. Such a sophomoric "Macy Gray My Album Drops...." moment. Not to mention he looked like a first-rate twink. “At one time she was considered the world's youngest belly dancer. And Prince is the world's oldest woodland nymph!”

Boring. Bland. Completely devoid of any life. Easily IMO the worst Prince album ever. To this day I can't even get through half of it before turning it off. [Edited 9/15/12 12:39pm]

I don't have time to go back and listen to an album I listened to once. Becasue that's how unimpressive it was. I don'y hate it- because that means it left an impression. I would have had to cut Prince a lot of slack to try and enjoy this record and I have too many other albums I like better (including much of his back catalogue). Much like Stevie Wonder- who I LOVE to death and think he has put out an amazing body of work - I don't expect I'll ever heara a great record out of Prince again. I hope to be pleasantly surprised but not counting on it. I'm ok with it too- becasue I have lots of great music from both great artists. And they both still play amazingly live.

The ONLY song I still listen to AND enjoy is Sticky Like Glue. Yes, yes we know the rap is like a lone booger on the cheek of a beautiful face but mentally photoshop that out and this song is the only reason for this album to exist. Based on numerous reviews here on the org, podcasts and such I have forced myself to listen to some of the other highly rated songs (Future Soul Song, Leveaux, Sea of Everything...) and they are not even growers for me. I can't stand them just as much now as the first time I heard them and I am confident that I never will. Shake....shake, shake, shake.

Well he was just looking for straight cash I think. No one but us really knew the album was out or how to get it...so I thought the shirt was cute he wore and his speech was good.
There was not any promotion and I don't feel he cared much about the release. There was some good songs on it, some bad.... Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Sticky Like Glue & Lavaux are my 2 favs from the album
Initial tracking dates are uncertain, but it is believed that the track was recorded in early 2010 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA. Lavaux is likely named after The Lavaux, a region in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland, in the district of Lavaux. This region is close to the site of the Montreux Jazz Festival, where Prince played shows in 2007 and 2009, so it is possible he visited it then. -PrinceVault

Imo 20Ten is a mix of brilliant songs and absolute bs. The album itself as an "album" is nothing worth 2 mention, i could have downloaded and burned it to CD myself.

I really like 20Ten and don't understand the vitriol that is directed at it. It is not the first Prince album that I reach for but if you enjoy his recent work (crica 2004-present) then I think it fits in well and is a good album. I rank those albums like this:
Lotusflow3r (this one is by far my favourite)
Next would be these three albums that I rate as being fairly similar, quality wise:
Musicology Planet Earth 20Ten
After that I have 3121. I know a lot of people really like that one but there's just something about it that I can't connect with.
For me the least of his recent albums is MPLSoUND. There are a couple of tracks on it that I enjoy but for the most part I just can't get into it.
So, looking at the above I would put the album somewhere in the middle of his recent work but I do quite like it. I find it really hard to rate the individual songs but I'll play along.
1. Compassion 4/7 2. Beginning Endlessly 5/7 3. Future Soul Song 6/7 4. Sticky Like Glue 5.5/7 5. Act of God 4.5/7 6. Lavaux 5/7 7. Walk in Sand 5/7 8. Sea of Everything 2.5/7 9. Everybody Loves Me 3.5/7 10. Laydown 3/7
44/70=63%
Yeah, I think that looks just about right. There are only two songs on the album that I don't at least like ("Sea of Everything" and "Laydown"). "Everybody Loves Me" I kind of waver between liking it and not liking it.
I want to single out "Walk in Sand." I don't think that the song itself is great but I love the sound of it. I really, really like the piano/acoustic guitar in it, it is a somewhat unique sound for Prince. I would like to hear a similar sound tried out on a better song.

rialb,
I really dig your analysis; nice work.
If I may, I would suggest that you perhaps revisit Walk In Sand, so that you can follow that slice of musical wine with that glorious segue into the next track and the magnificent production and vocals (not to mention, the sound and the lyrics) on Sea of Everything. Again, deceptively simple, like Walk in Sand, but, in my opinion, a great penultimate closer to the album, before that risky but hilarious finale of Everybody Loves Me (which I personally think works an absolute treat, strangely, somehow).

I'm not sure exactly what I don't like about "Sea of Everything," I guess it is just a little too sedate/sleepy? I don't hate it or skip it when I listen to the album but it is not a song that grabs my attention when it is playing.
I do think that the pacing of the ballads on 20Ten is superior to MPLSoUND. I would argue that the ballads on 20Ten are better anyway but they flow really well within the album. With MPLSoUND you get three of the four middle tracks as ballads, for me that just slows the momentum of the album down too much. I compare these two albums because for me they seem fairly similar. At the time that 20Ten was released one of my first observations was that it was the album that MPLSoUND should have been. 20Ten benefits from having better ballads and shorter songs and as an album I think it works much better than MPLSoUND.

rialb,
Once again, spot on.
He seemed to really misstep with his running order on MPLSound. It's almost as if he knew he didn't quite know what to do in executing the lofty album title, as exemplified by his clearly misguided footing on the ordering/placement of the ballads, not to mention that it is clear his "sound" wasn't quite fluid yet, as he must have clearly wanted. By the time, 20Ten swings around, he has almost entirely corrected the problem with his fluidity, which is why I find 20Ten a quite fantastic album; it feels like much closer to Prince's real minneapolis sound, without any of the pretension of MPLSound. That said, I do find No More Candy 4 U a stellar, unexpected, addition to his discography, for what it's worth.
Regarding Sea of Everything, switch the lights off (if necessary), put on a good set of headphones, take a sip of your favourite drink, recline on a comfy leather couch, look out onto your favourite skyline at night, and allow yourself to reflect about what it felt like when you were struggling to keep a consummate 'love'... "never quite reaching shore"
"No need to say, that I would die without you" ... he's being as earnest and honest as he has ever been on record. Listen to his voice, those voals, he's dying without her.
