i see a lot of 8's and 9's outta 10. I can't give anything on this album high marks. People, have you listened to SOTT lately? Or Parade? These are albums with songs worthy of high scores.

I barely like a solitary song on 20Ten.

so 1/10 for me.

I gave most of the songs a 10, then took 1 or 2 off of a song I liked less than the other songs on just this disc.

Yeah, this ^

I know that everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but it boggles my mind how anyone could put this in the same league as 1999 or SOTT or Dirty Mind. It seriously makes me question some peoples judgement.

I totally don't mind different opinions, for instance, I don't think Lovesexy is that great of a Prince album, and I REALLY like Batman (not lemon crush though). Now, I know a lot of other people here on the org think Lovesexy is the second coming and that Batman isn't in the same calibur, but I can listen to Lovesexy, and even though I don't agree, I can hear HOW people would feel it is that great. I can understand that Lovesexy is of a quality that it could make people feel that way.

IE I don't personally care for Indian Food, however I understand how some people think it's delicious.

However when I listen to 20ten, I just don't get how ANYBODY could think it's even half as good as Prince's second tere 90's albums. To give this album a 5/10 is beyond generous. To my ears and the people I've played it for, this album is UN-LISTENABLE. I just don't see it.

IE Going back to the indian food analogy, I can get how someone would like indian food, but if I see someone eating a french fried dog turd while telling me how tasty it is, I start to seriously question their motives and sanity.

hmm, that's not the point rolleyes ; obviously 20T3N is uneven next to DM, 1999, SOTT or Parade; I believe that NOBODY here has said that 20T3N is the 10's version of Parade or Dirty Mind, let's be serious folks...

BUT the consensus is that 20T3N is either a nearly solid 4 out of 5 stars, or a disappointing 1'5-2 out of 5...if some fans say that 20T3N has (at least) six 4/5 or even 5/5 songs that doesn't mean the album is as good as Parade or SOTT..., but you can't deny that a good song is a good song, even when surrounded by filler or a turd (Sea of Everything, ELM, or even Laydown)

and, as I've said, in my opinion, Prince has released worse albums, in terms of production and songwriting (C&D, half of Emancipation, Truth, NPS, half of Rave, Chocolate/Slaughterhouse, or MPLSound, or even Graffiti Bridge, hell I even prefer 20T3N than For You)

This makes ZERO sense JoeT. if SOTT is a 5/5 and you clearly state that 20ten isn't in the same league, How can 20ten also be a 5/5? That's just illogical. If SOtt is a 5/5 and 20ten is a huge step down, that means 2.5/5. It's comparing apple to apples.

1.Compassion= 2/5

2.Beginning Endlessly = 3/5

3.Future Soul Song = 5/5

4.Sticky Like Glue = 4/5

5.Act of God = 2/5

6.Lavaux = 5/5

7. Walk in Sand = 2/5

8.Sea of Everything = 2/5

9.Everybody Loves Me = 0/5

Overall, the album is all fairly "meh" with 3 exceptions: Future Soul Song is probably my favorite song he's done of the 2000s, and both Sticky Like Glue and Lavaux are lots of fun and have a spritely energy missing from a lot of his recent work.

Also, Beginning Endlessly is really cool but goes on about 2 minutes too long.

Everything else though is pretty weak and in one case (Everybody Loves Me), awful.

I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

I didn't state SHIT lol rolleyes are u a liar, or a blind man? I rated the songs ONE BY ONE (x/5 system), then I summed them up and it gave me a 39/50, which is (nearly) a 4 out of 5 (strong album)

woah, what's so hard to understand ??? rolleyes

the thread (the title, no less!!) says : RATE THE SONGS ONE BY ONE

if people say that Sticky Like Glue is a 8/10, then it IS a 8/10, period, included in 20T3N or not...

if people say that Sticky Like Glue is a 2/10, then it IS a IS a 2/10, period, included in 20T3N or not...

If Dirty Mind is a 4/5, and "nobody is saying 20ten as good as Dirty Mind" then how exactly can this turd of an album rate 4/5? I'm not a liar, I'm just using common sense. Also, it sort of sounds like you have problems with basic reasoning skills and logic. Furthermore, I was focusing on the quality of the album as opposed to leveling personal attacks and calling people Liars. You're trying to shift the focus from this album being a turkey (which is where the thread had gone to, people rating the album as a whole), to cat fighting. Have fun with that.

BTW, this is how you do a personal attack:

Hey JoeTyler, I know you're still butt hurt after I spanked you and your life partner Skywalker around on that stupid star wars thread last month, But you're once again firing like crazy from an inferior position. Deuces!

I find it hard to take any "0/5" ratings seriously.

It's a nice album if a bit lacking on a sentiment of "drive". On his older LinnDrum heavy records a lot of the drum sounds and many other elements in the mix were quite distorted, but 20ten sounds a bit too "protoolish" to me. The sounds don't blend into each other like on his old stuff. I think it sounds "plastic" to some ears simply because of the difference of the recording medium and how some sounds stick out too much. He could be using keyboard sounds with more character too.

I think every song on it is a "three out of five" song. It's hard to pick any favourites. Except "Everybody Loves Me", which deserves 45,677 out of five, because it's so good.

Again, you don't have to accept or 'take seriously' how other people feel about this album, you just have to respect that their opinion is different o yours and therefore equally as valid. Like what you like and allow others to do the same wink

I don't respect the opinions of people that cannot express their disappointment over a record, movie or a book without resorting to extremes. Sometimes provocative responses on an Internet forum can be funny, but we've seen enough of this type of childish behaviour on this forum by this point.

Validity is determined by the structure of a logical argument. Rating songs with numbers from zero to five has very little to do with that. In common parlance people may call opinions "valid" if there's some sort of a sensible reasoning provided for them. If the reasoning provided for them appears to be based on just some sort of a irrational sentiment of discomfort then they should not be considered "valid" even in that sense.

but I started this thread knowing that the 30% of the responses (at least) would be like that: rotten

that said, I wanna thank the rest of the people who gave coherent responses, a good example of a coherent negative rating was given by Noveaudance, for example

How was my response any less coherent than your response? I rated the songs the same way you did, one by one.

Two of which I gave a 0 to, whilst the rest got marks that I personally percieve to be fair.

It's on page 2, but here it is again:

Compassion = 0/10

Beginning Endlessly = 7/10

Future Soul Song = 2/10

Sticky Like Glue = 7/10

Act Of God = 1/10

Lavaux = 3/10

Walk In Sand = 2/10

Sea Of Everything = 1/10

Everybody Loves Me = 0/10

Laydown = 2/10

How is that any less coherent than your list?

What makes your views right and my views wrong?
