But Lovesexy didn't bomb because of the cover, the era itself was extremely successful.

Dirty Mind Prince was just getting out there, there was only a short period of time from For U -Dirty Mind that those albums were released. And Dirty Mind took his popularity to the next level

Buy the 'slave' era Prince had too much happening in his life to be on the up of success.

But what Missfee said said for the first half is correct, the 1970/80's allowed for a wide range of flamboyancy in clothing and looks, so the bikini hi heeled boots trench coats(those were regular fashion by the way) and the ruffled shirts (rick james wored them too) were very popular and acceptible in the 1980's

Remember when Lenny first cut his dreads and the first time you see him you're like... "wow, whoa what happened??" but then eventually you get used to it? Well I think we'll get used to this too.. its different, but with time it'll grow on us.

Well my point is that he's looked ridiculous in the eyes of many for years, yet it really didn't matter because his popularity didn't fade. i know what you're saying, but what i was originally talking about is how marketable this goofy picture is going to look on an album cover. but now that i think about it, i cant imagine anyone my age that i know buying a new prince album. so i guess the image really doesnt make a difference

It's about how the photo comes off. I don't think anyone made this racial. Black decendant people aren't the only ones that can get an afro

Yeah I would take the picture more seriously if he had a guitar instead of some random sword. The picture itself doesn't scream Prince but add a guitar and that would change everything.

Prince is just fine. Sure I was like "The hell??'" when I had seen this, but its funny he chose this new look which was VERY unexpected... But anything Prince does, he pulls it off.
