What?
I think you may have been watching a different video, 'cause in the one this thread is about, all Rick talked about was Charlie Murphy and Prince, and neither one of them are homosexual. I agree. I don't hear any homophobic overtones, it's just 2 buddies talking sh!t about each other.

But did he say he "hates" Prince? No, he didn't. Just because jackson35 calls Prince out on ALL of his shit doesn't mean he hates him. I think he's probably just tired of people blindly and unconditionally sucking Prince's dick on everything and always putting another artist down in favor of him, just because he's Prince.
NONE of us would be here if we truly hated all of his music. [Edited 3/6/12 20:11pm]

Come out with it dude. What the hell did Prince do 2 u?

I guess Rick liked rivalries and tensions, trouble seemed to find him. Keep in mind he was AWOL when he was in that band w/Neil Young.
The rivalry with Prince seemed more like watching this guy pass you on and move on to a huge success... I think it fueled his demons though. Not sure if Motown was trying to keep him in a box, or he just fell apart and got weird the way Sly did (who seems to just be playing it up sometimes).
It is sad when someone of an older age dies with drugs in their system, but when you do it for years like that, and it's easily accessible, no matter what your wife or assistant tries to do, you're still a grown ass man and going to do what you want.
People thought Dave completely lost it, but like he said, it got too big for him, and felt boxed in, his team was letting him down, and didn't like the direction the show was heading in. He makes a good living, and prob. would be sitting on piles of money rehashing characters, but true artists can't whore out like that.... something in them snaps when they do. He gave Charlie Murphy a standup career which kind of fills the Eddie Murphy standup void, but it's prob. better than the things he did for Eddie.

Nah, jackson's posts are personal, not just someone tired of the so called kool aid drinkers. I saw your comments in the concert threads - liking his concerts or not liking his concerts are matter of opinion, and I'm totally fine with that kind of discussion (tho' it would be nice to keep it civil between each other). It's cool if you don't like his concerts, or those albums, songs, interview, GF choices, whatever, we can discuss. But you can tell when someone's not a fan, or even respectful, in the slightest. I don't get why they come on here - I wouldn't go to a fan site of an artist I don't like just to piss on that artist and everyone there how wrong and stupid they are. That's plain rude and a colossal waste of time. BTW, yes sometimes people take P's side just because it's P, but in this case,... I mean, Rick's no Mother Theresa. He's talking absolute shit, rambling on, talking about having his way with women, contradicting himself about the sofa, and calling someone basically a midget faggot. alexnvrmnd777 said:

I don't hate prince at all, i think he's one of the best live performer out here, i just didnt think in 1979 on the fire it up tour, he blew rick away. Rick had a customized state with a big band with a horn section and three fine back up singers. prince just had a regular band that super tight but sloopy every now and again. i don't like the way he takes advantage of his band, where he does marathon sound checks for hours then does the show, then another after show then get back on the bus, go back to the hotel, grab your stuff and sleep it off on the bus all for a paltry sum of 850 dollar a week. i dont like the way he treats his production staff by acting as if we are below him and communicating with handwritten notes and not with his damn mouth. love p music, love his live bootlegs but a very uptight client.

I think you may not understand what James is saying and implying with his comments about Prince. The implication is obviously that Prince isnt a "real"man unlike Nubian god Murphy?!LOL You also may want to look up the definition to homophobia because his attitude is homphobic and I never said Prince or Murphy were gay. James is typical of man who had masculinity problems and was threatened by anyone who is different.

..and as if Rick was the epitome of manly man..we used to laugh at his "act" back then.."she's a veryy kinky gurrrrlll..the kind u dont take home to muthaaaaa"

All three guys are straight. Motherfucker was just acting like he was bold or something. He had more makeup on than Prince did in the year he did that interview.

I know but Rick is up here tlaking about Princes OBVIOUS movements and vocal screeches while he was doing the same thing in a different way.

I like how he sucks on his finger twice in that interview and doesn't wipe it off either time. He's like a human/bullfrog hybrid and just licks that big thick digit of his and lets it slide out of his mouth and just puts his hand down.

Funny thing is he said at the end he didn't do cocaine anymore but cocaine was found in his system.

You got me curious, so I checked it out.
Through his autopsy, alprazolam, diazepam, bupropion, citalopram, hydrocodone, digoxin, chlorpheniramine, methamphetamine and cocaine were found in his blood.
Holy shit. | |

In that video, no it wasn't. Saying Prince is small and acted feminine doesn't mean Rick was afraid of or even discriminatory against homosexuals, and he wasn't alluding to any "homophobia" either. Randomly insulting Prince's appearance is not him being "homophobic." Rick just greatly disliked Prince, for whatever reasons, and that's all he was referring to, aside from Charlie. ......
Go ahead and bash Rick for being bitter at the end, but dude was a force to be reckoned with and more popular in R&B/Funk world than Prince in the late 70s, he gave us Teena Marie, Mary Jane Girls, and batted cleanup for Motown for a good bit (Stevie was on Tamla). He and Prince were a natural rivalry; I can't see him NOT influencing Prince--it's not a dirty word in my book-- I personally would have loved to have seen the competition last into the 90s. Street Songs got as much play in my household/neighborhood growing up as 1999, if not more. If only Rick could've handled the life... ********************************************

Rick claimed prince was stealing his moves and how he got the crowd to eco his chants and what not to the point where rick had to stop cuz prince was opening for him and it started looking like it was rick that was stealing prince's act

And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. He wouldn't even be here if he wasn't a fan.
Though I will say, jackson35, just because a band is bigger with a brass section and vocalists doesn't mean it's better than a small, rawer, tighter unit. But, I guess all of that is subjective at best. Meh.
Regardless of some of the outlandish things that have come out of both of their mouths over the years, Rick James and Prince were/are two incredibly talented and funky musicians (though Rick rarely ever gets the credit he truly deserves, and I'm absolutely TIRED of it).

Dang!! Rick James didn't even have to go that far about Prince. Prince is the man! Prince knew from an early age, what it takes..Now look at where he is right now. There seems to be no end to his creativity. Rick James was the MAN, but this was pretty unnecessary. Cocain is hellu of a drug for sure! We already know that the truth indeed prevails!
