Used to go to this used CD store when I was in college called "New Clear Days". It was owned by an albino who claimed to be good friends with Yoko Ono. Anyhow, he got Prince boots in from time to time and there was one concert double CD he had that he was charging like $80 for. I didn't have $80 so I offered him $40 in cash and like 12 CDs in trade. So was the boot worth $200 in cash and merchandise? Probably not but that's the kind of crap you do in college.

Whoa!!! U so got ripped off w/Jill Jones CD, exspecially since its a CD form and not even a Vinyl. Ive seen that same CD sell on Amazon for 20$ & Ive seen it in small record shop for about 10-15$. But if you enjoy it I guess its worth the money.

The cheap ones on amazon/ebay are bootlegs, very good bootlegs, barcodes, the lot, very difficult to tell but fakes nonetheless. There were copies of The Family and Madhouse cd's floating around for the same price. Some of them are even sourced from vinyl.

However, $370 seems a very high price, considering real copies can be found for about a quarter of that.

Collectors will know. Compare the numbers printed on the centre of cd's, they may be the same numbers, but there are slight differences in the way they are printed, the gaps in between numbers, also things like the way artwork is printed, it's not quite as sharp as the genuine article. Most differences can be found on the discs themselves, little details left out of the fakes etc.

There is a sticky in the marketplace forum which was started, to try and warn people of thigs to look for, but it has not been added to or completed.

wink

lol I have been a fan since '84, but compared to some other fans I don't know shit.

You will learn as you go along.

wink

Just be careful buying those protege cd's, or Prince discs which are really rare and usually very expensive. If you see them for a price that seems too good to be true, then that's usually an indication that they are too good to be true.

That's not to say that bargains of genuine cd's can't be found, because i'm sure there are cheap ones out there from time to time.

Ive been a fan since 93, and I was quite young then, so I guess your right I have a long ways to go, before I master the art of Prince discography. Gladly I have most of my mothers old Vinyls, and I bought others @ garage sells, from ppl who were un-be-knowest giving away gems. But im still gonna pay more attention while Prince browsing.

3121 for 1.99$ is believable right??? Its not a classic yet

eek And here I thought I did okay. I got Jill's CD back in 2002/03. There were two auctions going on...I lost the first one and I know it went for over $400. A week or so later I "scored".

Y'all just ruined my day...sort of.

Yeah, $370-$400 is more the going price for the first Mazarati CD. I got my Jill Jones Paisley Park CD on ebay for under $100.

There was more information on the MoQuake site before it closed down. I downloaded the files before the site closed, but I've been waiting to see if they pop up somewhere else before trying to upload them to the org.

I dunno, I guess that cd that came with Prince's 21 nights book. That whole thing was 55 dollars. I haven't invested that much into Prince...

I mean the most I paid for a vinyl Prince record was 15 dollars. I bought a mint condition Controversy off a Army guy who was being shipped over seas. It came with the Prince in the shower poster, so I had to have it.

I generally don't pay more than retail for anything. I remember about 1997/98 they had some bootleg CDs at our Wrecka Stow (Real Groovy, Auckland) and they were like $50 each and $80 for a double, should have got them as they are probably rare now. There was one called Livesexy and another called Prince double 0 symbol - Licence to Fuck, I kid you not. But they wouldn't let me listen to them, so no sale, feel kind of stupid now.

Most expensive was the US $ 38 I paid for 21 Nights book with Indigo Nights CD, at the time our dollar was worth 58 cents, so I paid $71 for a purple coaster mad mad mad mad

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I wanna say I payed about $125 for this one. This one had the original sleeve too, would be a little less without the sleeve.

In 1987, I paid $35 for a 90 minute cassette filled with unreleased songs (parade/crystal ball/camille). It was a steep price for me at the time, but it opened up a whole new world to me. So it was a bargain! Most of my best stuff I got for trade.

I paid $40 for a Black Album boot in 1988. Keep in mind, this was $40 saved up by a 15 year old that worked at a restaurant on weekends!

That same year, I paid $45 for a Let's Work extended version 12".

I've paid $35 for random single boot CDs in the late 80s/early 90s. Then once the internet came along, all bets were off, and I got most stuff for free. In fact, in the last 15 years I've bought maybe two actual Prince CDs (minus the NPGMC stuff).

Those prices were relatively low. Most of my big spending was for the concerts. Like getting the expensive tickets, then having to get hotels, gas, and the overpriced merchandise, etc. It all balances out, I regret none of it.
