I cant remember how much i paid for them, but i do own a 2 'white' black album promo LPs and 1 'grey' black album promo complete with letter to the WB Executive which i know is rare. Im listed on the website owning the above records. I also have the orange one, but then again, so do most people.

I have a few others that people have already posted. I especially like Strange Tales from the Rain and His Majesty's Pop Life LPs together with some of the rare 12" singles. Its fun to get them out now and again and look through them.

Whilst an avid collector of all things rare, i still happily play the records on my turntable - even the Picture Discs...rebel that I am wink

Great thread btw smile

I'd really like to get my hands on one of those someday (either the white or grey Black Album promo). I would prefer to find one with a number that hasn't yet been tracked down and get it added to the list. It's cool that there is a website keeping track of who owns which numbers.

One reason I was willing to pay that price is that I expect it will only continue to go up in value. They are selling *fakes* on Amazon Marketplace for more than $100 each. If there is ever a remastered version, the original might not be quite as sought-after, but I think it will always be valuable. Anyway, that's what I told my wife. lol

lol When I was still collecting Prince stuff I was lucky that my boyfriend at that time was a Princefan and collector too whew.

My wife is actually very cool about it considering that she has only a slight interest in Prince's music. She did have a stamp collection when she was a kid, so she understands the idea. I just wish I had made the effort to buy some of these things when they were still in print and priced like other items. I knew that some Prince records were valuable, but it never occurred to me that something as basic as the standard-issue Vanity 6 CD would eventually go out of print and shoot up in price dramatically. Kudos to those who built up their collections when the items didn't cost obscene amounts of money.

thumbs up!

It's true that some items are worth a lot now which were normal price or at least not extremely high-priced back then (I should have bought more than one Goldnigga CD in the NPG store back then for example pout), but others are not worth much anymore like all the unoffial vinyls and CDS that I payed big money for back in the day and I could never get the money back again if i'd want to re-sell them.

That's true. It's hard to predict what will happen, even with things that you know are rare. The guy selling the 1987 longbox CD on eBay right now may get thousands of dollars for it, but he might have gotten even more if he had sold it before the 1994 reissue. I wish I had a real crystal ball (not the one that comes in a plastic petri dish) to see what records or CDs you can buy cheaply today that will be worth big bucks in the future. Not so much because I'd want to sell them, but because I'd hate to pass on something now and later find that it's prohibitively expensive.

Just 5 minutes ago I thought (inspired by this thread) that my family might just throw away things like my Apollonia 6 CD and tons of stuff like that when I die confused . I have friends who should know that certain things are worth a lot, I guess I should tell my family they should ask them then hmmm.

nod Especially with things that are already more expensive than when they were released and might go either up or down later.

Very nice item. Super rare. There was one on ebay a couple of years ago, I gave up bidding at £300, I think it made close to £500, it was listed as very good condition and it was missing the obi.

eek eek Wow I wasn't aware it's so expensive. That makes me wonder if I should consíder to sell mine hmmm.

I'm 99% sure that the reason the Apollonia cd is so rare is that it was only ever released in Japan on cd, and was not released till 1990.

If it's not a Japan issue cd, then i'm afraid it's a fake.

wink

If it's a Japanese pressing, then you are sitting on a goldmine.

I wonder how many were actually pressed. It may be that there are actually a good number out there but those who own them are not interested in selling, so when they do come up for sale they fetch big bucks.

As an investor, I guess I should be rooting against a remastered version now, because I think the issue of a remastered version would reduce demand for the original (even though it would still be a unique item). But as a fan I do hope we get a remastered version of that CD and the other associated artist CDs (not to mention Prince's own stuff). But I'm betting that there will be no remastered version, or that, if there is one, the sound quality will be inferior. I hope I'm wrong.

I have no idea how many were pressed. I'll bet there are a few sitting in peoples collections over the world (especially Japan) who have no idea of it's value.

As for remasters, I think we will be very lucky to get Prince albums remastered, never mind associated artists platters.

You never know though, maybe one day.

Good info here ^

The ironic thing is that you can get the vinyl record for $5 or less, and it probably sounds better than the CD. Same is true of most of the Associated Artist albums.

True that. Genuine copies of The Family, the Madhouse albums and others on vinyl can still be found with relative ease and not too much outlay on ebay.

I found Jill Jones on vinyl (in great condition) at a local wrecka stow. I could have ripped it, myself - but just went online and found a lossless torrent (which was undoubtedly taken from the vinyl) for my iPod. Best of both worlds. shrug

Having owned both the CDs and vinyl copies of the associated albums, I think the vinyl editions do sound better. Record labels hadn't yet perfected CD audio in the 80s sadly.

I don't know. If the sovereign debt crisis takes down the global economy, your associated artist CDs could be a hedge against inflation. lol But if The Digital Gardener is right, the Apollonia 6 bubble could be about to burst, in which case you should sell immediately. In any case, the next person who sells their copy should thank me for setting a new eBay price record.

P.S. Now may be a good time to sell a copy of The Vault book, too:

http://prince.org/msg/9/377042

If there is a new edition of that and a remastered Apollonia 6 CD in a few years, I may feel like an Enron investor.

I had it back when it was released and lent it to someone and never got it back. In recent years, I got a copy for 50 cents at a thrift store and it was still sealed and had never been opened.

Does no one have/had the "My Name Was Prince" Japanese promo? It was released to promote The Hits/The B-Sides and is worth several hundred £/$/whatever.

Eil had one for an age, they kept reducing the price gradually, but it still sold for several hundred pounds.

As you can see, the tracklist is nothing special at all, but this has to be one of the most collectable and valuable cd's out there.

We should start a derivatives market in Prince and associated artists CDs. For example, I could (hypothetically) promise to buy both of your copies in 2022 for the price of $1,000. If it keeps going up in value, I'll come out really well from the deal, but if the Cherry Red remaster comes out in the meantime, you'll win the bet.

We may need a securities lawyer to advise us on this, though. lol
