Oh, Its On Like Donkey Kong: Prince v. O7ven

I'm excited to see Condensate getting lots of love, ESPECIALLY the Doc. I'll have to wait til next week to cop, but Prince WILL "respond." Not sure HOW he'll do so, but he will. Good for us all. Old times are back!

Yeah, Prince better delivery because right now he's being outshone by both fDeluxe and Original 7. Whoops!

Your scoring on something that wasn't released yet. falloff

I love how people are comparing albums when Prince hasn't come out with anything in 2011.

You forget that he's still recording and still working hard.

Seven musicians against one man? That's some competition!

If Prince had released that, it would have taken an absolute pounding on here.

It's amazing that both FDeluxe and The Original 7ven both thanked Prince in their liner notes and still the fans are trying to drum up unnecessary controversy over the name change issue again. The CD's are out and the names have been changed obviously it's a moot point now. Both groups are trying to establish themselves away from Prince and it seems to be working for them. Why can't that be enough? Let's enjoy the music and hope it keeps coming!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Because its an exciting time in the purple universe. Two heralded artists are making reelases for the first time in over 20 years .

No way in hell is there not going to be some competition threads, vs. threads, and whatnot.

Now that Dangelo has been off the earth for a decade, there are some artists that are lighting a fire under Princes tuckas(sp?). You can't tell me that Prince has not listened to these releases. Hell for all we know, he could have had previews of them (at least more [ossibly with The Times release).

Its all for the good of creativity.

Exactly. It's good for all of us to hear music from all of these bands. Friendly competition makes the soup taste better. I really don't think there's any real anymosity between The O7(The Time) and Prince or else they wouldn't have thanked him in their liner notes. Sure it would have been great to use their old band names, but he owns them. That would be like Mark Hamill playing Luke Skywalker in his own movie, without George Lucas. It just doesn't work that way.

Oh it's just some good old fashioned fun. lol What I would love is for a concert challenge to see who can rip the stage to shreds. I still think Prince would win, but O7's band gives off a more cohesive, family vibe than the NPG does. I think some friendly competition would be good for everyone involved, especially us fans.

You guys have it backwards.

Prince is always the original instagattta, yo.

The Original 7 were only responding to Hot Summer, Everybody Loves Me, and Purple & Gold.

FunkDr

So The Time / O7ven release their first album in c. 20yrs and all of a sudden they're outdoing Prince ? HA !!!

how many great songs and tours has Prince done in that time? HECKASTACKS !! smile

If Prince released this song he would be slammed for it - lazy lyrics (basically naming car manufacturers and repeating chants from old songs) over synth lines and funk guitar that he / they were doing in the '80's !!

Because The Time have no substance or depth to their music - it is usually just great/silly fun songs to bob your head to - it is instant and easier to like from the off - like fast food !

They are and never have been even close to being in Prince's sphere in ANY field - songwriting, singing, musicianship, live performance. They are good live and I have seen them live ...it was FUN... but they are never going to take you places that Prince does live. He is in a different galaxy compared to their fooling around to what are essentially simple n fun songs.

Yes, I know that Prince has said that they were the only live band he feared but c'mon - he was hyping them - the more they sold, the more $ for P ! For 1 night only, to the casual observer, they might seem close - again it is because they are easier to absorb both visually and musically - nothing challenging !! Whereas Prince, through '80-'83 was often a "WTF was that ?" experience - a total headfunk !! Once you've seen the Time live, you've seen 'em !

Just enjoy both for what they are - but please let's keep a little perspective on where both sit in the pantheons of music !!

Now, I'm off to get me a lil' condensation !! cool

that's my point Nouveau - he has and when he has, he gets slammed on here for it - e.g. 20Ten album.
