That might be because Prince has never put out a Funk Album. There may be albums with some funky stuff on there. Just like there'd be straight up rock songs, slow jams, etc.

Condensate is a cool album. I'm glad the guys are out there doing there own thing, but let's not go crazy.

This happened when Jesse's album came out last year. A whole lot of people were saying "This is better and funkier than anything Prince has put out in years".

It was a great album, if you only listened to the 1st Disc.

I think people who listened to the 2nd Disc are just now waking up from their comas!

If Prince focused or concentrated on only doing funk releases it would be no question but Prince has always chosen to write elements of pop, rock etc on his releases. Fuck is everyone talking about? Prince taught those cats how to be funky. Half that shit they did sounds like some Box Of Chocolates from MPLS that most were baggin' on as being trite/light.

To be honest though. I'm on my 5th listen since buying it this evening and these songs don't really sound like the type of songs Prince would sing. This CD is defined for the guys, that's the genius of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, always making sure to produce so that the music is their own. This is definately a more mature sound Time. I don't really see a Prince comparison. That's just my two cents. The only one that comes close maybe is Toast to the Party Girl.

As he, himself, stated, "More than being just about sex, my songs are about longing and the need for connection." You do realize that "Sexuality" is a socio-political song about liberation from hypocritical and prescribed social norms? Of course "Party Up" is an anti-war song. You do know that "Baby" is a very subtle and smart song about unexpectant pregnancy with a male speaker accepting full responsibility to be a father. "Ronnie Talk to Russia," yeah, that's sex, sex, sex. "When Doves Cry," a haunting song about how coming from a dysfunctional family hinders one's ability to develop healthy relationships, yeah, that's sex, sex, sex. "Uptown" is another commentary on individuality, and years later he was reaffirming that with "Walk, Don't Walk" and countless other songs. "Free" is about being thankful for living in a place where one has the freedom to speak one's mind but also asserts that people must continue to fight for these freedoms or they can be lost. The entire Around the World in a Day album is about anything but sex for sex sake where even a song like "Tambourine," which is about masturbation, uses masturbation as a metaphor for the unfulfilled life that one unsuccessfully attempts to escape through sex, which climaxes, pun intended, with "Temptation" when we hear that love and lust are different and that we cannot sex our way to inner peace. It may not be high philosophy, but it does have depth, especially in a society where so many people do use sex like another drug. “America” anyone? “Sign ‘O” the Times”? Just listing these last two songs causes me to question if you really are a Prince fan. And what I love about "Colonized Mind" is that while his religious beliefs have become more traditional his F-the world attitude has not, challenging all those who think that he has been brainwashed by asking if they are actually the ones who have been brainwashed.
