INCENSE AND CANDLES IS A MASTERPIECE! what a song! sex for my ears!
amazing production, really, so classy and smooth that I get a hard-on everytime the song pops out. The perfect song after Black Sweat, and probably THE best modern R&B experiment he has ever done.
really, this was the "When 2 R In Love" of the 00s...
this is one of those song with the "it/magic" factor, something not heard since TGE...

Always liked this song. He was right...'the jam is got a beat like it's making love'. I know most here hates when P raps, but I think this is one of his better attempts at it. I like the way he uses the autotune on it as well because it's not overdone and cheesy and it actually adds a lil something to the song imo. Good music makes me happy. | |

I had other favorites on the album in the beginning but when the album had sunk in Incense And Candles became my favorite and still is. On a scale from 1 to 10 it's an 8, so almost a masterpiece. The production really fits the romantic theme and the rap enhances the song (as opposed to the rap in Extraloveable 2011). | |

I wouldn´t call it a masterpiece but it is, in my opinion, one of his better songs of the past decade. Like so many of his relatively "new" songs, it is flawed by the lyrics. If the lyrics were a bit more straightforward and didn´t have the feel of Prince holding back and restraining himself again, I´d say it is a really strong song but the lyrics don´t cut it for me even though I like the music and the vocal delivery.
I could say exactly the same about Lion of Judah. Good music, good vocal delivery but the lyrics, especially the imagery and metaphors he uses, are not my thing. I simply don´t like the metaphor or imagery "like a lion of Judah". He could´ve kept it a bit more neutral to make it a lovesong that everybody could relate to, but hey, it´s HIS music , not mine.
PS; I don´t like the use of autotune. Other than that I really like this one, except for the things I said above.The lyrics don´t have to be dirty but this whole teasing and beating about the bush doesn´t really impress me at all. Childish stuff, IMO, that really damages a lot of his more recent songs. He´s still got mad talent and writes great music but I can´t relate to most of his newer lyrics these days. Love love love this song!!...... but not a masterpiece.
It has a very contemporary sound and I think if some1 more current performed it (well known to the young crowd[dare i say T-PAIN]), it would be a billboard hit. Most of my friend really like this track and dont even realize its Prince. Hell if prince relesed it as a single it would climb the r&b charts. | |

Well, The Word was the song that came to mind as contender as I typed that. So you def have a point.
The Word is good and NOT silly. But it's somewhat conventional. I like the silliness, as well as the melody, of I&C.
