I hope something nice comes of it all but if nothing does then so be it. I wish the fan bases of all the groups/artists were as adult and open minded as the artists themselves. I let my co worker listen to 'Gaslight' and he didn't care for it and I didn't flip out! He said he liked #Trendin and I told him he should check out the CD by the Original 7ven and to get it from Best Buy for the added DVD. Liking one artist doesn't mean you have t start hating the other, it's music not war!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

How embarrassing it must have been for Fdeluxe and the Original 7ven to come to Paisley Park

and get a good look at what Prince has really become.

I bet Shelby,Andy,Liv,Elisa,Larry,Tina etc... were all sitting in a circle in the Love4OneAnother

room praying to Jehova, singing Kumbaya, sipping carrot juice and erasing all cuss words out of

classic Prince albums.

Morris probably shit a brick.

Seriously,I hope something cool comes from this meeting but I have been conditioned to expect the absolute worst.

After all the grief he gave these people over using their band names I would have declined his invitation to Paisely Park.

Let him sit there in that big white mansion with his goody two shoes new friends and revel in his past glories with them.

First of all what are you on ? The very fact that these folks went out to Paisley Park tells you that we the fans do not know the true nature of P's relationship with his former employees.

Trust me if P wanted any of these bands to open for him they would be right up on the stage in a blink of a eye.

This shows Prince is not mad at the Time, or whatever. Maybe it was Warners that didn't want them using the name.

Cool News That folks Got together.

As far as being bitter about the name changes. I always looked at it like,

Prince and Warner share ownership of All of Princes work. Ie Share Profits

So if The Time Releases an Album under the name " The Time". ( Same with the Familly), Warner can still receive profits being part owner of the name with Prince.

To Me it was more a dig at the Record company. IE "Warner you will get nothing from me ....."

Last time was October of 2009. We had a few days' notice.

I remember because Sweetie and I had just been in Minneapolis earlier that week (we saw Meshell Ndegeocello at the Dakota). We got home on Wednesday or Thursday, and found out Prince was playing that Saturday night at Paisley Park. So I drove back up. lol

Where was the announcement made? But wait....you hate that guy right? wink

Agreed. But even Prince has to realize how bad he looks after greedily humiliating Morris Day and forcing him to rename The Time to earn a living.

Sorry guys, that major associated artists revolt and revenge against Prince that we all know some wished for aint gonna happen. wink lol

Hmm... How is there any "revolt and revenge against Prince" when these bands invited Prince to participate with their new music? That's extremely illogical isn't it? Is it that hard to think things through before reacting?. biggrin

WB isn't sending out 'Cease And Desist' letters, but Prince is, so your theory doesn't seem to add up. And,you have Prince declining to work on the band's new albums and quoted, according to FDeluxe as saying "I don't want you to make money off of something I started".

Why would Warners send out Cease and Desist Letter , it they could make money off of them releaseing product under the name they were originally contracted with on the Record Label ?

OK, Glass-Half-Full. Don't let facts get in the way of your wishful thinking. Prince did not say, " Hey congrats guys on the reunion. But gee, I don't want WB profiting from your hard work". No he said, "I don't want YOU making money off of something I started". I don't see how there is any room for ambiguity in that statement.

Are you sure you're not getting things a mid muddled? The issue was with use of the names, not with Prince working on the albums AFAIK.

The albums are out - and they're great - so it's all over now. But it did come out when it was all still fresh that Prince doesn't own the name 'The Family', so there was nothing legally between P. and the band from using the name, but it appeared that even if he wouldn't win it, he could afford a long legal battle that the band could not, and which would tie the release of the album in knots for a long time, effectively putting it into limbo - so the band chose to for-go the name and concentrate on the album. As I understand it, The Time is different in that Prince does own the name, but the same could result in trying to use the name - legal limbo. If my fuzzy memory is right on all that, feel free to correct if not.

All this makes Prince sound like he's being a massive dick - BUT if the bands are still happy to visit and sit in treehouses together, well that sounds like the business end of it is more tangled than just Prince taking his ball and going home? And I wouldn't blame big, bad Warners either. I don't know what more there is to it - but I can't understand a situation where someone would say to you 'Fuck you, NO you can't use this little thing that didn't do much in the first place that's sat collecting dust for 25 years, it's mine!', and then go and have cream cheese bagels with them a few months later - unless they're cracked in the head, suck-ups, or something I don't know! (I don't think they are!)

At the end of the day we're here for the music - Prince's and that of associated artists.

On the face of it reading that W&L, and now FDeluxe, have been hangin at Paisley is a positive.

I hold the opinion that if you listen to both sides of an argument the truth lies somewhere in the middle; we do not know Prince's reasons.

Unless Prince chooses to elaborate on why he chose to deny the use of names I guess we will not get to the definitive truth.

The fact that TO7 and FDeluxe have found a way to release music again, under their own terms, is all good. wink

They are taking the high road and extending an olive branch. Ultimately, they are leaving the door open for a better future relationship with him. Nothing crazy about that. I personaly doubt, they will EVER get Prince to give, sell, or negotiate anything with them. But you can't blame them for trying.

And yes, Prince did turn down working on the albums with the bands. And also every variation of a revenue split, sell or tranfer of rights to the back catalog or band names or anything else for that matter. The Time and FDeluxe have both mentioned it. WB is not the issue.

I couldn't decide which forum would be more appropriate for this topic considering it pertains to both Fdeluxe (The Family) and Prince, so apologies to the moderators if you have to move this to AA.

Fdeluxe posted awhile ago on their Facebook:

"Just got back from Paisley, definitely a cool thing to have done. Glad we made the effort. Also caught up with the fellas from The Original 7even (aka The Original Time Band) ... make sure you head out and see Jellybean and co at The State Theater tonight. Should be funky!"

Blows my mind to think that out at Paisley Park tonight was that group of people all together! drool What I would have given to been a fly on that wall! lol

I know it's probably just dreaming on my part, but I can't help but wish there'd be a last minute party announced for tomorrow night out at Paisley: Fdeluxe, O7 and Prince and the band. pray lol

Most importantly though, I'm happy to hear everyone spent some time together and, based on Fdeluxe's FB post, that it was a positive experience.

I'm thinking they will be guest stars for W2C.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

why won't you follow your own advice and reread my comment. if you can read that is. my statement was directed at those who probably wanted FDeluxe/O7 to revolt against Prince for forcing them to change the name, but that's not going to happen at least with FDeluxe since we now know they went to Paisley Park.

Why o why are some folks here making it seem as if there's a war going on between Prince and some of his former bandmembers/collaboraters? A war that those former band members just have to win? Have any of the Time/Family ever said that they want to take revenge on Prince? I hope not, because he's a superstar and you're not gonna beat him. I think some orgers hold a bigger grudge against Prince then The FamilyTime. And I don't really need a RevolutionReunion. Playing with old band members is a sure way of indulging in nostalgia and NOT make innovative music again.

These idiots here will be the first on line with a Prince and..." concert.

Hell, Bart's buhind even went to his shows this year and loved them (but will never admit to either).

It's one of the negatives of "anonyminity via technology"..a lot of antisocial type people get to take part of it.
