Best Euro Tour Bootleg? Hey all,
Having thoroughly enjoyed my dose of purple madness during the summer, I was wondering what was the best bootleg that came out of the European tour?
Obviously, I'm not looking for info as to where to get it, or who to get it from, I was just wondering which bootleg had the best sound quality?
Thanks | |

North Sea Jazz Day 2 was great. Also the 2nd Melkweg. Not just cause I was at both... They're just killer.
If you mean what label had the best recordings, I honestly don't know. Uci's video from North Sea was great as usual, and I think there is only one audio from Melkweg(?)... [Edited 10/22/11 16:14pm] [Edited 10/22/11 16:14pm] All that bathing in purple rain just can't be good for your health...

Cameras weren't allowed at the Melkweg, so yes, only audio. Third NSJF night was pretty good too.

[Edited 10/23/11 2:00am] Have a look at 'The W2A: Euro Tour Song Survey' http://prince.org/msg/12/362417

The Melkweg performance was insane. It was a better concert than NSJ imo.

Sounds good! But the original question hasn't been answered yet. I only have boots of the Dutch shows, the ones on Eye Records because they always make a beautiful piece of work out of it (am I advertising here?). They're audience recordings, but the sound is fine. On the third NSJF night someone shouted: "I'm yours!" to which Prince replied:"exactly." The recording doesn't pick up the shout from the audience. Maybe that says something about the sound quality.

All the 2011 Euro tour releases are audience recordings. If soundboards exist then they are not in circulation. The sound quality of any of these releases depends on how or whether the recordings are cleaned up. The shows with the best sound quality are not always necessarily the best gigs, and this goes for any recording from any point in Prince's career. Time and time again I see people who miss out on amazing shows because they only want pristine sounding recordings. Anyway, your loss. Both nights at Melkweg (25th & 26th July) are imo great releases. The setlists are good, and sound quality is great. Another top release is the 6 disc "North Sea Nights" set, again, setlists and sound quality are on par. All of these are on the free label "Love Or $," and are available to download for free on the interweb. Other releases worthy of mention are "Hop Farm" on Confusion records, and "Umbria Jazz" on the One Nation label. Another nice one is the "Prince Of Malahide Castle" release, nicely rescued by One Nation. As before, all these are free to obtain, made by fans for fans, if you pay for any of these releases then you are being ripped off.

I do the same. Not advertising, just preferring a good package and a pressed CD to a download.
