It was too late. Prince hadn't asked via that Alphabet St video by the time I had my bootleg copy.
Had it on vinyl first, then found a better copy on cassette, later purchased all of the different CD boots I could find in search of the best quality. Little did I know all of that tape hiss would still show up on the official 1994 CD.

To answer ur initial question.....It depends on who's telling me!
ummm i bought what i guess is the "black album" a few yrs back at the one record store thats still alive in my city. Such a shame my favorite store was closed down about 2 yrs ago. Anyway the cd was all black so who knows.

I had the bootleg cassette as soon as it hit the store. I got a vinyl one a few years later and then the official CD released by Warners. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I never used to do what my parents told me to do, never mind some 5ft pop star in heels and a polka dot blouse.

No, and partly because I was not alive 8 December 1987-21 November 1994. But even if I was, it would be still no. Don't pay for bootlegs.

No. I bought the cassette outside Wembley arena after the Lovesexy show finished, some guy was standing there shouting out in Delboy style "Black album for a fiver, come and get your Black album for a fiver..." £5 was a lot in 1988. FUNKNROLL!
