The lyrics make perfect sense to me and it's a great song. The lyrics I still think about and ponder "Reflection". That's some deep shit. "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham

Funny thing is, I'm usually completely turned off anytime Prince tries to make any type of social commentary in his lyrics, but I actually really like "Colonized Mind"... Very poetic... The guitar work helps too.

I love the song but the lyrics are a bit silly. I think that applies to 75% of Prince songs though. RIP

Not true. Just write your own song instead of repurposing something not yours

I love it how it is thanks. Not exactly in keeping with my views, but it's his song, so why would it be?

We all could use some mental decolonization. 90% of stuff people believe to be true is just fabrication imposed on them since birth. The colonizers have run run out of new lands for conquest, so what we see now is a virtual colonizement of our minds. Ideologies repeated over and over, and so they begin to seem natural but are really for the purpose of the hoarding of resources by the hegemon. We should question our cherished beliefs to see if they're really our own, or if they've been placed there by an external interest. That's what I hear in the song. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

^That's exactly why I say there might be more to this song than you think. But I always found that first line very concfusing. U see a rock on the shore and say it's always been there. But the whole point of the evolution theory is that something has not always been there. Besides, evolution is about life, not about geology. How about... Upload, evolution theory is funky U see a man and say he used to be a monkey

Not because of the God Vs Science angle (don't get me started on that again) - but because it's wrong, wrong, wrong. Whether a rocks put there my God (take your pick which one), is the product of the Giant Impact Theory or the Big Bang, its got sod all to do with evolution. If he'd said something ridiculous like " You see a rock on the shore and say its related to a tortoise" even THAT would closer to the truth. ...AND it HAS always been there whether plonked there unseen by a God or the result of geological processes which we can see with our own eyes today That verse is Jibberish and the majority of the others are confused at best... " Upload, the creationism principle You see a rock on the shore and say “I couldnt give a rats arse how or why it got there... God did it - NEXT!!! " Download, no responsibility Do what you want because it's Gods will" Upload, a basic grasp of scientific theory You see a rock on the shore and say “You know what, i now know its nothing to do with evolution and, as I'm all for leaving the past behind in my songs, why don't I look at the facts and science to put together my own decisions instead of dismissing it because it's not in my religious handbook" Download, accurate lyrics [Edited 10/20/11 3:22am]

People BAWWWing over the first three lines of a great song. Priceless.
I have no problem with people suggesting that evolusion is real, but....
Prince was right. Nobody cares.
Lyrics are just fine. Don't fuck with them.

Firstly (as always) the song would be better if it was an original composition:
Secondly can anyone actually just answer Lust's question? Is there anyone here sufficiently ignorant of evolution to a Prince level, who can help us make sense of his "rock on the shore" jab? What is he going on about? Which copy of The Watchtower do we have to read to identify where he got the idea?
Thirdly, evolution doesn't state humans used to be monkeys. Rather we have shared ape ancestors with other species of great apes such as chimpanzees. As such monkeys are distant cousins (as are all life forms if you go back far enough) but not ancestors.
Fourthly I'm glad to hear NeonCraxx doesn't have a problem with anyone believing in evolution. We can all breathe easier after that official notice.
Fifthly Prince's mind is more colonised than most, seeing as he takes orders on what to believe and how to live from a group of men in New York collectively known as The Watchtower Society. Sadly I think the irony is lost on him at this point...

The song is absolutely brilliant, so I don't care much about his evolution-reflections. Also, when he talks about politics on this song (two-party system, rulers-ruled), he may not be as clever as Ray Davies, but what he says does make sense and, of course, is more interesting than many of his love-sex lyrics, in my opinion.

It's fine the way it is. The lyrics leaves just enough room to question, challenge and lead to discussions, as it already has. [Edited 10/20/11 6:53am]

Honestly...I really don't know how to say this any other way because, despite lots of people saying it, you still keep insisting Prince is right - he is 100% not right. It's got nothing to do with God vs Evolution - he's referring to completely the wrong subject. He may as well say "upload the kniting principle..." for all the relevance evolution has to rock formations. That bit is simply wrong no two ways about it Also the 2 party line...could have sworn he had a hard-on for Obama not so long ago...surely Prince wouldn't be so shallow as to back Obama just on his skin colour without really knowing what he stood for....would he. Then the parent bit....could have sworn Prince grew up without a father and therefore he's admitting that he had no respect for authority. The most serious issues...Nazis and the Master Race - well that gets dusted over quickly with a claim it might leave kids isolated [Edited 10/20/11 7:19am]

It's a real puzzler, still nobody steps up to explain how thinking a rock has always been there links to the evolution principle. Total gobbledygook that amongst many here is deemed to be some of his deepest, most profound lyrical content.
