What If The Vault Turns Out To Be Overrated??

What if that day comes when Prince decides to empty his vault, & besides the outtakes already out there, nothing else is all that good? What if Prince [mostly] released all of his best stuff????

Some people have expressed the opinion that the stuff left in the vault (including what we know) is, by and large, unmarketable and not that great comparitively speaking.

It may be nostalgia or the taboo nature of collecting, but I really believe there's about an album per "era" of releasable material and that would be good enough. I don't follow the belief that the vault is endless and endless and endless and everything within it is perfect.

There's gotta be at least 30 reels worth of "Gangsta Glam" and "Face Down" remixes alone.

I just don't put much hope into the vault like a lot of other people do. Of course I'd like to hear everything, but I won't hype it up in my mind, only to be disappointed in the end.....

I've always had this thought that Prince could've destroyed some of his raunchy music in the vault due to his JW ways.....who knows how much is/was raunchy.... lol

Since when is nearly EVERY single live performance on video and audio considered "overrated"??

Exactly, the best items in the vault are all the soundboard recordings and live videos. what would you grab first. the box labeled "push it up" and "freaks on this side" remixes or 1984-1987 live.

I was only referring to studio outtakes we've never heard of.....I never mentioned live footage of songs already out....

Okay, so really you mean the title to say just "unreleased outtakes", right?

Neither. My choice'd be "Hot Wit U" (The Heat Index Mix). lol

We already know what the circulated outtakes are like. There's enough good stuff there so that you could compile albums of them that are just as good as many of his 80s albums.

When Prince refers to "The Vault" I doubt he refers only to stuff that nobody has heard before. If we'd only get the outtake stuff from the 1980-1990 sessions that we'd already heard in great sound quality what more could we ask? Anything extra would be just, well, extra.

I'm sure there'll be great music in the Vault. It probably is very overrated, though.

We already have hundreds of unreleased tracks and alternate versions, extrapolate that to the whole kaboodle, and that says what?.... That it's a mix of gems, average stuff and crud just like the released body of work.

Good music makes me happy.

There's probably two or three or maybe even four albums' worth of phenomenal music.

Which is two or three or maybe even four more albums of phenomenal music than most artists put out in their life.
