Thank you. And even THOSE years are very few and far between.
802, name the years where he hasn't played "many gigs", and what's your definition of "many"?
Years where he hasn't played many gigs. [less than 20 imo]
1979
1989
1991
2003
2005
2008
Many gigs is 45+ imo [21-44 is inbetween being lazy and being hard-working , not that this matters]

Devil's advocate, he was probably at the studio more than on tour during those years. |

And Kcool says WE come up with crazy figures. Now, I bet if I said Prince was lazy and has hardly done anything in the past few years, he would've said, "Are you kidding?!! The hate around here is stifling! He's been touring everywhere for every year of his career and will continue to!!!"
You just can't win with these Prince apologists/fams.
First of all do u even know what a TOUR is? Of course Prince has played different gigs virtually every year. But being on tour is an entirely different thing.
U contradict urself! First earlier U were comparing Prince's Lovesexy, Musicology tours with his W2A tour. Now U saying he tours every year. U turning into a bigger by the minute.
Not to take away from, he is always working & playing all the time. Just not necessarily a tour. We know the man can't keep still.....

It really doesn't matter because he STILL performed several shows, and that's where the setlists come from. And that what we're ultimately talking about here, especially and more particularly in the latter years. |

Sigh...blinded by your purple sunglasses, I see.
A tour is a group of performances, not necessarily in the same city/venue. And you know as well as I do that the point in my message was that for all of his PERFORMANCES, he mainly pulls from the same static list of songs to perform. Whether he jetsetted and performed in every single country in the world in 2 months with the band or whether he performed every single one of them at his house (3121) or club or whatever.
It's funny when you apologists get proven wrong or have nothing really to say, you start nit-picking which doesn't make any sense, just like you did here. |

-When Prince shows his face, it's a 'Tour,'
-A 'tour of himself and we should be greatful,
-Love the guy for being alive,
-Hard working and let him 'Tour,
-In anyway he wants, just get him out,
-So we can see him,

I'm not even talkin about setlist. Whichever he does per4rm the same, the arrangements are still different and each show is not the same. I am not proven wrong anything. I'm just stating facts.

It's funny people bash Prince for playing his hits so much but the 'Morris Day & The Time' shows are almost identical to each other. I've seen 'Morris Day & The Time' 3 times and the setlist was the same every time. The only variation was the ad libs with the audience. A good show but they need to change it up more often.
But the difference is Prince has so much more material to choose from to play, so that's where people's frustrations come from.
And Morris Day & The Time's setlist have basically been the same for a bit, but we're now talking about the Original Time Band, and their setlist would be more varied, with setlists pulled from The Time, Morris Days's solo albums, Jesse Johnson's solo albums, and Jellybean's/Monte's/Jam & Lewis's compositions. And considering how this particular lineup hasn't toured every damn year like Prince has, it's pointless to even compare, really.
My point was that the Time show is predictable right down to Morris pulling some girl out of the audience during 'Gigolos Get Lonely Too'. They haven't reworked the songs or played around with the less popular tracks from their 4 CDs. Prince on the other hand has reworked some of his songs, most recently 'Little Red Corvette'. He also thrown is obscure cuts here and there. The Time set list is a hit parade and they don't play any of their other tracks at all. While a Prince tour may become repetitive his tours are vastly different from one another. The Time show has been the same for well over 15 years. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! |

Mostly true. There have been occasional minor variations in the set list but not much to speak of.
They usually only play for an hour to an hour and half as well. No long shows, or, heaven forbid, aftershows to speak of. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

But the discussion turned to what both groups (Prince and The Time) play in their shows over and over, and it just evolved from there. Were you not paying attention?
And most of the arrangements HAVE stayed the same, just so you know. LRC is about the only obvious one that has changed.

I still like the idea of their name being a symbol, in their case a clock. They could be called The Artists Formerly Known As The Time. Problem solved and they get to poke fun at Prince while doing it. Not that I want animosity between them, I don't. But IF he really is roadblocking the use of the name, it would be a perfect reaction. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

prince has been playing "jungle love" and "the bird" in concert a lot lately
its too bad friendships sour and that prince can't acknowledge the work they all put into it live, in movies, and as an influence, muse for the work. i have no doubt the attitude and lyrical style came from the real members of the time and prince wrote music to fit things he had heard them say and their general swagger. prince would not have written those songs (if he actually wrote them) without the band there to play them.
just because prince name is credited does not mean everyone else did nothing to make those songs be a hit for prince. considering prince has ruined his own name with embarrassing work he should not care if the time put out a bad record (not that its guaranteed) and he should just sell them the name back and let it go .. let the vibe just flow
For real. At this point, it can't be about the $$$. Prince has more $$$ than he'll ever be able to spend. What's the point? Is it control, vendictiveness, what? |

I think you make a great point about the back catalog.
But to say that it is the only issue and that it has nothing to do with using the name(s) for new releases is just silly.
More likely there are many issues involved. And you have wisely pointed out one of, maybe even the biggest, issue.
But to discount all the other issues as having nothing to do with the situation sounds like B.S. to me.
The only logical reason for Prince to act like he's acting is to protect his rights regarding the back catalog in preparation for eventual remasters. But I haven't seen any evidence that Prince actually intends to release remastered versions of anything from his back catalog, except as niche market vinyl reissues. In fact, he himself has said the opposite in his rantings about digital music. He seems to think that his revenue in the future will come exclusively from live shows. If he has no intention of ever releasing digital remasters of albums by The Time, The Family, etc., or his own albums with the Revolution, why does he care what The Time do under their name?
Heard the Game on an interview and he said the money now is in performing, and he's a big current act. Prince seems to think theres money in remasters of side projects, the money is in the stuff performed by him and sadly it's only 2 albums the ones that made him a household name and all of the tracks that should have been on those two albums. |

Jimmy & Terry are probably ready to get back in the studio with Janet at this rate. We know what Jellybean is doing. Jerome is not on tour with The Time's current touring lineup. Monte Moir is doing his own thing separate of The Time, so is Jesse. It might have a lot to do with the band ITSELF than any issues they may have with Prince, which for some reason I can't speculate that there was any to begin with from the source. |
