And YOU are being way too damn sensitive. You made it seem like I personally attacked you when all I said was that it's funny when you and Spinlight argue. I haven't even said anything bad about you. Stop taking everything too seriously. You're making yourself sound like your the victim of some horrible scheme to take you down. It's never that serious on the org, trust me.

Bro I didn't read this post, but from here on out, I'm just going ignore anything that can turn into something negative. Because everything I do, something negative comes from it.
So have a bless day bro. [Edited 8/9/11 17:32pm]

Vict0r - If you ilived in Portland,Oregon, I'd buy you a drink for your dead on it comment. I couldn't agree more- Of course I love Parade to death- but Around The World In A Day is on some "still ahead of it's time" game. "Paisley Park" will still slap you twice with originality and flavor! I'm hooked on that vibe like heroin. I just love '85 to death. I like the odd numbers most. '81, '83, '85, '87. For me those were the risky years- I like it when he goes out on a limb real far... He's so damn clever that way.

Right On! I fucking love that year. I wish he had more circulating songs from that era. Like an extended version of "Tamborine".

I'm sorry guys, but I think it's overrated. Parade, Diamonds And Pearls, 3121, and Emancipation are all overrated. Especially Parade though. Maybe I don't get it, but I think it's his MOST overrated album. "I never want to stop singing this song!" Prince in Montreal, 12/2/11, just before performing Purple Rain

 I'm fooled I guess. You think tylerhippie is an alter and not really a young, new fan? and the pics he's posted aren't really him? I guess I'm gullible....who do you think he really is then? I don't read all of his threads but...I don't really see him as a shit starter either....just young and a bit against the grain perhaps...... "not a fan" yeah...ok

I Like That. Thanks | |

I don't think that posting on an Internet forum about Prince is "going against the grain".
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think it's overrated There are some good songs on it,but parts of it sound rushed and demo-like.As a complete album,it's not consistent.I was much more impressed with the two albums that came after (SOTT and Lovesexy).
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
really? maybe cause that's not what I meant. you guys were accusing him of picking fights or starting shit...that's what I was referring to as going against the grain. "not a fan" yeah...ok

No. "The Pentagon controls every word and image the American people reads or sees in mass media."

I don't think Parade is overrated! Parade is exceptional, and it would be even if it was not for "Under The Cherry Moon" (Even as that film does not add a lot of positive light to the "Era/movement"...lol...The story structure does with Christopher Tracy and all, but the movie is not well you know...lol) Nevertheless I love Parade because it was around the time Prince was in this FANTASTIC PEAK. He created so many wonderful songs around this era with so many weird and strange elements. Songs Like "Power Fantastic/ There's Others Here With Us". I mean he was on other levels around the Parade era - Lovesexy. He still has brought much creativity during or before this period, but I really think Parade has to be given the credit it deserves. "ATWIAD" is just as powerfully great; and exceptional but to say it's better is a weak assessment. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but I doubt it is overrated. It gets a lot love, because of the classics and the style...It is just genius. On a more serious note, I think that it opens up "ATWIAD" in that; a lot Parade reflections are seen in "ATWIAD"..I am going on a tangent..but I hope you get what I mean...Haha It's Button Therapy, Baby!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah I think the elements of psychedelia in ATWIAD definitely affected the work of Parade for real. That's why there's such a strong element of it on Parade and of course his own brand of funk. I'm still amazed at "Sometimes It Snows in April". Probably one of his greatest moments as far as mid-tempo pop-rock songs of his are concerned.

Six pages? This thread is overrated. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I gave Parade a listen last night...And "New Position", "I Wonder U" and "Mountains" were the only tracks that made me say "oh shit!".
"Kiss" kinda bored me. "Sometimes It Snows In April" had it moments. "Do U Lie"... "Anotherloverholenyohead" was cool "Under The Cherry Moon", "Venus De Milo" and "Christopher Tracey's Parade" were 50/50 "Girls & Boys" actually made me Salsa Dance. "Life Can Be So Nice", I kinda liked it.
I'll give the album 3 1/2 stars.

You like what you like, don't worry about it. It's cool.
I don't like "The Gold Experience" such is life.

This thread is pretty overrated actually Hell, all my threads are overrated.

I think that the Parade album captures Prince during a magical time in his career. That may sound a bit cheesy but the album sounds like no other album he's done and it has a very cohesive feel.
Firstly, I LOVE Do U Lie? It's always been a fave of mine from that album and Prince has the same playful feel on that track as he has on New Position, Life Can Be So Nice.
Mountains is just a great song. I had all but forgotten about it until I heard the RTL Radio show from 2009 where he plays it acoustically with the ladies. It killed me and I've been revisiting Parade a lot after that. Obviously, he's playing Mountains a lot live these days.
The Parade album and the subsequent Parade tour are moments that's we'll never get again. An energetic, creative young Prince just doing what he wants. The album is tight and the shows were funky and great. It was the end of the Revolution and the end of an era.
Every time a hear a steel drum or a cowbell or bongo from the Parade album, I just smile and want to share with others. A hate the word "masterpiece" but it just may be.
