And the guy is cheeky enough to bitch about others playing his songs...

I'm sure he feels that when others play his tunes it's a blatant rip but when he plays other people's stuff it should be considered as an honour for which they should be grateful.

I can't stand hypocrisy.

It's not hypocrisy. It seems like some people on this blog are purposely distorting the truth. Prince has a problem with people recording (covering) his songs without his permission. He has no problem with people covering his songs live, but not on disc without his permission.

Prince has done covers for decades. Get over it.

Yep, and most bands play some covers when on tour.

Because he likes these songs better than his own music. Its hard to argue with it too. Personnaly, I would rather hear only Prince music but its obvious Prince doesn't even like his own music anymore. The songs he does like makes me wanna puke. He has become very boring

been to 2 MJ concerts & 3 of madonna's, cant recall ever hearing any covers...they give you your moneys worth, they give you 100%... & Prince has more hits than both of those artiste combined but choose to shortchange his fans.

MJ did Beautiful Night in 88 at Wembley.......how dare he....disbelief

I think some of Prince's best live performances have been covers.

Just my Imagination

Motherless Child

Maybe You'r Baby.

Creep.

Red House

and on and on.

His studio covers I'm not so fond of, but live, he really turns it out. Takes it somewhere else.

And they are all great.

But 8 covers in one show ruins any magic.

I'm sorry, but when the man constantly boasts "too many hits, too little time," the audience expects him to spend his time playing his hits, not cover songs by other artists, no matter how effectively he might execute them & they have every right to be put off by the Sly & the Family Stone medleys, etc. Other artists with a catalog that rivals his might throw in a cover as a rare treat, but since the mid-late 1990s, throwing repeated & increasingly stale covers seems the norm for Prince. Even during the Welcome 2 America set, did we need to hear a Sarah MacLachlan song performed by one of his backup singers? Why not have her do a rarely performed song Prince actually wrote for a female singer - he wouldn't be singing, but it'd at least be his tune.

His stance on covers in general seems hypocritical. Pot & kettle are one & the same.

Some people are in denial about Prince F**k up's...they'll defend him even if he is caught at a murder scene pulling the knife from someone's back.

I'm sure the musicians who wanted to cover his material ASKED. Maybe not the hip-hop producers who SAMPLED him though (ask the producers of folks like 2Pac).

But didn't he release this 700$ thing with all those Prince samples of his (screams etc) for people to use them as samples in their own songs?

So I guess if an artist paid this thing 700$ because it was actually on sale, well he bought the right to use it...

As for Prince playing covers in his shows. of course I'd prefer him playing his own songs, cause I want to see how he portrays his own material on stage, but 1 or 2 cover don't botter me as long as it's good.. I was happy hearing MJ's Don't stop (if only he was the one singing would have been even better)

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.
